Show every Korok seed on the interactive map

Nearly every Korok in Hyrule hides behind one of a small set of repeating puzzles. Once you can recognise the pattern from a distance, most seeds take under a minute. This page lists each type, what it looks like in the world, and the exact action that makes the Korok pop out. The quick table gives the short version; the sections below add the details that trip people up.

Rock puzzles

Lone rock

The simplest Korok puzzle is also the most common: one small rock sitting somewhere that looks slightly out of place. Walk up and pick it up; the Korok is underneath. Typical spots are cliff ledges, mountain summits, islands in lakes, tree stumps with a hollow, and even branches high in a tree, so climb whenever a tall tree looks like it has something up top.

Rock under a blocker

Some small rocks are sealed under something heavier. A large boulder can be bombed or pushed aside with Stasis. A thick black slab can be knocked away by striking it with Stasis a few times. A heavy iron door lying on the ground can be lifted with Magnesis. Once the cover is gone, lift the small rock beneath it to reveal the Korok.

Rock circle

A circle of stones with a single gap means one stone has been moved away. Look around the area, often in nearby bushes, under trees or by a pool, for a loose rock, carry it over and place it in the gap. The Korok appears when the circle is complete.

Rock ring in water or on a cliff

A small ring of rocks may sit in a river, on a lake, or on a ledge far from where you stand. These do not have a missing stone in the ring; instead you throw a loose rock into the middle. Grab a small rock from the bank, a bridge or an island and toss it so it lands in the ring. On high ledges you may need a Cryonis platform or a clever approach to get the right angle.

Boulder rolled into a hole

If you see a big boulder beside a pit, or a slope of boulders above a hole, the aim is to roll one into the hole. A hillside makes this easy; on flat ground push it with your weapon or bombs. Several slopes have a trio of boulders, and any one of them will do. Use Stasis to nudge a boulder that stops short.

Trail and follow puzzles

Yellow flower trail

A yellow flower that appears, vanishes and reappears further ahead is leading you to a hidden Korok. Keep following it without losing sight. Some trails run through fallen hollow trees or across a river, and one has a boulder that rolls down while you chase, so keep an eye on the slope above.

Sparkling leaves

A swirl of glittering leaves drifting near a pond or along a ruin is another trail to follow. Catch up with the swirl and the Korok pops out. They are easy to miss because you can mistake them for ordinary scenery, so scan for the sparkle when you pass shores and ruins.

Ascending number flowers

In some caves a group of flowers is numbered by pattern or position. Walk over them in ascending order, from the first to the last. The Korok appears when the final flower is touched correctly.

Magnesis and block puzzles

Matching blocks pattern

A wall, cliff face or ledge may hold a group of stone blocks arranged in a pattern with a gap or an out-of-place block. Use Magnesis to pull a metal block into the right position so the pattern lines up. When it matches, the Korok appears. Look for sets embedded in cliffsides and on ridgelines.

Ball and chain on a stump

A metal ball attached by a chain to a tree trunk or stump is meant to be placed on top of that stump. Use Magnesis to lift the ball and set it down on the stump. The Korok comes out once the ball sits in place. Swampy areas and forests often hide these.

Metal door over a rock

Heavy metal doors sit at the base of cliffs, in ruins and by old forts. Magnesis lifts them and shows a rock below; lifting that rock reveals the Korok.

Bomb the log, then bridge the gap

One Great Plateau spot combines two tools. A log by a bridge hides a Korok underneath it, so you blow it up with a bomb, then use Magnesis to drag a metal door over a broken pillar so you can reach the spot. Treat it as a reminder that some Koroks need two steps.

Tree and fruit puzzles

Three-tree fruit matching

Three trees stand together in a line, each with a different number or arrangement of fruit. Knock off the extra fruit until every tree looks the same, and the Korok appears. Work out the lowest common count first so you only remove fruit, not add it.

Apple altar

A small stone altar or pair of statues with an empty bowl wants an offering. Place an apple in the bowl and the Korok appears. In coastal areas the offering can be a Palm Fruit instead. Altars are often on summits or beside roads, so keep a few apples in your pack.

Climb the tree or flag pole

Some Koroks sit at the very top of something tall. Climb a flag pole in the ruins to find the Korok waiting, or scale the tallest tree by a waterfall or pine stand. If the climbing is slick, wait out the rain or use warm, grippy gear.

Shooting and fire puzzles

Pinwheel with balloons

A pinwheel on a high spot, a roof, a gate or a ledge starts a balloon trial when you stand near it. Draw your bow and pop every balloon. The Korok appears when the last one is gone. A pinwheel on a stable roof can also release a puff of fairy dust you must examine.

Pinwheel with flying nuts or pots

Some pinwheels launch items into the air instead, such as nuts or clay pots tossed above the treetops. Look up, line up each shot, and hit every one with an arrow to release the Korok.

Hanging nut and arrow target

A nut hanging from a chain beneath a bridge, or a circular target ringed with arrows on an archway, is shot once with a bow to bring out the Korok.

Torches

One lit torch next to an unlit one is a hint to carry the fire across. Use a fire arrow to light the unlit torch. Light it from a distance if the torch is awkward to reach.

Ice block

A Korok trapped inside a big block or pillar of ice is freed by heat. Fire arrows, a fire weapon such as the Flameblade, a Fire Rod or a torch all work. Cold regions have a few of these.

Water and movement puzzles

Lily pad ring

A circle of lily pads floating on a pond means you should dive into the centre. Approach from a ledge or cliff above and jump in so you land inside the ring; a shallow walk-in will not work. Several rings require a drop from higher up.

Timed run from a stump

A stump or marker may begin a short race to a target elsewhere. You have a limited time to reach the finish, so plan your route, use a Korok Leaf if one is provided, and use stamina-saving moves. Cold or mountainous routes may also ask you to climb quickly.

Fence jumping on horseback

At a ruined farmhouse, three fences in a line must be jumped on horseback. Grab a horse from the beach or nearby stable and ride over all three.

Hiding spots with no puzzle

Behind statues and in hollows

Some Koroks are just standing in plain sight but tucked behind statues, inside tree hollows or atop huts. Walk around the back of statues in front of rock piles and peer inside hollow trunks. You may also find one floating near the top of the Temple of Time spire.

Bombable rock pile

A cave or ledge sealed by a rock pile has a hidden space inside. Place a bomb on the pile, then lift the small rock inside to find the Korok.

Return to the Shrine of Resurrection

After you leave the Great Plateau, go back to the sleeping chamber of the Shrine of Resurrection. A Korok waits there.

Tips for finding Korok Seeds fast

Spend seeds with Hestu

Hestu takes Korok Seeds in exchange for more room to carry weapons, shields and bows. Each upgrade costs more than the last. He starts south of Kakariko Village after you finish The Priceless Maracas, then moves between later locations until he settles in Korok Forest. Activating the Keo Ruug Shrine in Korok Forest gives you a fast travel point to him.

Hestu’s Gift

Collect all 900 seeds to receive Hestu’s Gift, a Key Item that makes Hestu dance on command. It has no other use.

The Korok Mask

The Korok Mask is part of The Master Trials DLC pack. It shakes and lights up when a Korok is hiding nearby, so it helps with every puzzle type listed above. It is found in the Lost Woods by running in one direction from the final two torches until you reach a tree with a chest, which Magnesis pulls out.

Habits that save time

  • Scan for anything out of place: a single rock, a ring of stones, a flower, a pinwheel or a bowl.
  • Keep apples, bombs and fire arrows in your pack so you can solve altars, rock piles, torches and ice on the spot.
  • Keep Magnesis, Stasis and Cryonis ready, since many covers and blocks need them.
  • Check high places first: tower tops, summits and tall trees often hold a lone rock.
