The Hall of Secrets and the Noble Sword Walkthrough

Oracle of Seasons 100% Completion Walkthrough26 chapters
CoversA linked-game detour around Horon Village: Vasu’s Jewelers, Farore’s Hall of Secrets inside the Maku Tree, the windmill in the Eastern Suburbs, the Advance Shop, the Hero’s Cave south-west of the village and the Great Fairy beside it. You warp in from the Sunken City lake with a Gale Seed.
DungeonThe linked-game Hero’s Cave, entered early and left unfinished. It holds two Gasha Seeds, two Small Keys and a Zora with a secret for King Zora, but no boss.
RewardsNoble Sword (sword L-2) and Bombchu from Farore, 1 ring and 1 Gasha Seed from Farore’s first secret, 1 Gasha Seed and 2 rings from the Advance Shop, 2 Gasha Seeds from Hero’s Cave chests, the Green Holy, Blue Holy and Fist Rings appraised, two duplicate rings sold, Dr. Troy’s secret and the King Zora secret collected.

This chapter is almost entirely about secrets. You warp back to Horon Village to have four rings appraised, read Farore’s book in the Hall of Secrets and type in passwords that pay out a ring, a Gasha Seed, Bombchu and finally the Noble Sword. In between you collect a message from Dr. Troy’s pupil at the windmill, shop in the Advance Shop, and fight through the first stretch of the linked Hero’s Cave, where a Zora gives you a second message. Without a linked game none of the password rewards work, but the Advance Shop and Vasu’s appraisals do not depend on one.

Warp to Horon Village and appraise four rings

Use a Gale Seed to reach Horon Village

Standing on the grassy islet beside the blue Moblin house on the Sunken City lake, open the Gale Seed map and pick “Horon Village – Warp”. A Gale Seed whisks you straight back to the village, which saves the whole trip across the lake and through the cliffs. Walk east through the village to the red-roofed Vasu’s Jewelers.

Pay 20 Rupees per ring at Vasu’s

Choose Appraise and pick each unappraised ring in turn, paying 20 Rupees each. Four rings turn out to be the Green Holy Ring (no damage from electricity), the Blue Holy Ring (no damage from Zora’s fire), the Fist Ring (you punch when no sword or item is held) and a second Cursed Ring, which halves your sword damage and doubles the damage you take. Vasu already has a Cursed Ring on your list, so he offers 30 Rupees for the extra one. Say yes. You pay 80 and receive 30, which leaves you with 872 Rupees. Remember that rings only work once they are in your Ring Box and equipped.

Farore’s Hall of Secrets: the first secret

Walk into the Maku Tree and read Farore’s Memory

Leave Vasu’s, pass the village shop and walk to the Maku Tree. Enter the door in the trunk and follow the passage to the Hall of Secrets. Read the book Farore’s Memory to open your Secret List, which holds the Tingle, Symmetry and Fairy secrets, and then talk to Farore. She welcomes you and offers to give shape to the secrets you remember.

Type the first password for a ring

Say yes, and on the password screen enter the first password. Farore announces that your secrets have called forth new power, and a chest appears in front of her. Open it and take the unappraised ring; you will have it appraised in a moment.

Collect the Gasha Seed outside the hall

Walk back out through the corridor into the hollow trunk of the Maku Tree. A Gasha Seed is waiting for you here, with the usual reminder to plant it in a patch of soft soil. Keep it for the next soft-soil spot you pass; it is not planted in this chapter.

The windmill and Dr. Troy’s secret

Climb to the windmill in the Eastern Suburbs

Head for the windmill in the Eastern Suburbs, east of Horon Village. The windmill sits on a ledge of the sand hill, ringed by red trees, and Octoroks wander the ground around it.

Take the secret from Troy’s pupil

Talk to the young man at the foot of the windmill. He tells you he is the pupil of Dr. Troy, the biologist from Labrynna, and he is too busy to carry a message himself. Say yes when he asks if you will pass it on, and he gives you a short password. In a linked game you take it to Dr. Troy in Labrynna, and Troy’s reply is what pays off in Farore’s hall as Bombchu.

Second secret: Bombchu

Return to Farore and type the second password

Go back to the Maku Tree and into the Hall of Secrets. Enter the second password, the reply to Dr. Troy’s secret, and Farore calls a chest into the hall again.

Open the chest for Bombchu

Open the chest and you receive Bombchu, a homing bomb that runs along the ground at enemies. The game puts ten of them in your Items menu. Press the button you assigned, and aim them at anything you cannot reach with an ordinary Bomb.

Vasu’s Jewelers again: the Snowshoe Ring

Appraise the ring from Farore’s chest

Walk back out into the snow-covered village and enter Vasu’s Jewelers. Appraise the ring from the chest in the hall for 20 Rupees. It is the Snowshoe Ring, which stops you sliding on ice, but you already own one, so Vasu buys the spare for 30 Rupees. You come out with 882 Rupees after the appraisal and sale.

The Advance Shop: Gasha Seed and two rings

Find the shop in north-west Horon Village

Follow the winter paths to the Advance Shop, a duplex house in the north-west corner of the village. Everything on the shelf costs 100 Rupees. The first item is a Gasha Seed, which you buy and keep for planting later.

Buy the Advance Ring and the Magical Ring

Buy the second item, the Advance Ring, which later appraises as the GBA Nature Ring. Then buy the third item, a ring the shopkeeper simply calls the Magical Ring, whose identity is a secret until Vasu appraises it. Both are bought for 100 Rupees each, so you leave with 582 Rupees and two unappraised rings.

Hero’s Cave (linked game)

Enter the cave on the beach south of the village

Leave the village by the south-west road and cross the beach, fighting Octoroks and keeping to the sand. Go in through the cave mouth in the cliff. The first room is ringed with eye statues and a sign: “This is the Hero’s Cave. Continue on if you trust your skills.” In a linked game this cave is far harder than the Wooden Sword cave of a normal file.

Work through the block and pot rooms

The first rooms are mazes of raised blocks and pots, patrolled by Keese. Use the Power Bracelet to lift pots out of your way, and take any Rupees that drop. If a door says it will not open from this side, find another route round and approach it from the far side.

Collect the first Small Key and meet the Zora

Two Hardhat Beetles guard the next room; lure them away from the gap and jump it. In a big room full of pitfalls, a pink key block hides a Small Key. In a small room nearby, a pale Zora stands beside a swirl tile. He says King Zora sent him to find a new home, and asks you to deliver a secret and his report to the king in Labrynna. Accept and he gives you the password. This is the King Zora secret, and in a linked game it upgrades a sword. Then use the Small Key on the locked door.

Open the first Gasha Seed chest

Continue through the door, across a checkerboard room of pits and a room with a magenta door, then follow a conveyor ledge to the chest at its end. Open it for a Gasha Seed.

Open the second Gasha Seed chest

Move on through more checkerboard pit rooms until you reach a room with ladders and a few Zols and Gels. Beat them, then open the chest in that room. It holds a second Gasha Seed, so you now carry two from the cave.

Swim through the water rooms for a second Small Key

The next rooms are flooded, so swim with Zora’s Flippers. In one of the water rooms a chest on a ledge holds a Small Key. Use it on a locked door in the rooms that follow. This first run stops somewhere beyond that point, because the linked cave expects items from later dungeons.

Leave when your hearts run low

By this point you are down to a heart or two. There is still a chest left unopened beside a teleporter at the end of the last room you reach. Walk back out and plan to return in a later chapter once you hold more dungeon items.

Great Fairy by the cave

Refill your hearts

Back on the beach, go to the nearby cave with the pool. The Great Fairy there says she will ease your weariness, and a shower of hearts fills your life meter to full. Come back here whenever you leave Hero’s Cave in bad shape.

Third secret: the Noble Sword

Walk back to the Maku Tree

Cross the Horon fields to the east, past the woman standing in the field, until you reach the stairs below the Maku Tree. Walk into the trunk and on to the Hall of Secrets once more.

Type the third password and open the chest

Enter the third password, the reply that King Zora gives for the Zora’s message. A blue ring of light surrounds Farore and the chest appears. Open it to take the sacred Noble Sword. Your sword changes from L-1 to L-2 and does more damage. Farore reminds you that your secrets have called forth new power.

Save at the Maku Tree and leave

Farore offers to save, so choose Save & Continue if you like, then walk out into the Maku Tree’s trunk. The Noble Sword now sits on the B button.
