| Covers | A second Subrosian Dance Hall visit, North Horon (Scent Seed tree and Blaino’s Gym), the Holodrum Plain with Ricky, the Spool Swamp shore and entrance, the Pegasus Seed tree, the Floodgate Keeper’s house and the lake south-east of Sokra’s ledge. You need autumn for the swamp road and one use of winter at a stump to cross the lake. |
|---|---|
| Dungeon | None. The Poison Moth’s Lair is further into the swamp and is not entered in this chapter. |
| Rewards | 50 Ore Chunks (153 in total), Scent Seeds, Ricky’s Gloves and Ricky as your companion, the Ghastly Doll traded for the Iron Pot (trade item 4), one Gasha Seed planted, Pegasus Seeds, the Floodgate Key, Dimitri’s Flute (80 Rupees to free him), two Maple drops of Rupees. No Heart Pieces or rings are found here. |
This chapter takes you from the Subrosian Dance Hall to the lake where Dimitri is held. You earn 50 more Ore Chunks, pick up Scent Seeds, win Ricky’s Gloves from Blaino and ride Ricky to Spool Swamp. There you swap the Ghastly Doll for an Iron Pot, plant a Gasha Seed, collect Pegasus Seeds and take the Floodgate Key from the Keeper. Sokra points you toward the Subrosia portal, and a winter stump lets you reach and free Dimitri.

Subrosian Dance Hall: 50 more Ore Chunks
Check the Ring Box, then take the Eyeglass Lake portal
Open the Ring Box from the pause menu before you leave. It holds three rings now, so put in the ones you want to swap between. Walk east of Horon Village to the pond with the tree stump beside it, then go one screen west to the snowy bank where the swirling portal sits and step in. You arrive in Subrosia, where your Ore Chunk counter replaces the Rupee counter, with 103 Ore Chunks to start.

Win another dance
Walk down the steps from the portal plaza to the cave of the Subrosian Dance Hall and ask to join the practice. Copy the leader’s moves until he calls you the best dancer of the day. This win pays 50 Ore Chunks, which takes you to 153. Ore is the currency for the Subrosian Market, so it is worth the few minutes.

Return to Holodrum and set autumn
Go back to the portal. You step out onto the winter side beside Eyeglass Lake. Walk to the stump by the pond and use the Rod of Seasons to switch to autumn, which you need for the red-leaf roads ahead. Then cross the fields toward Horon Village, past the windmill ledge, and continue north.

Scent Seed tree in North Horon
Walk north to the tree in the green clearing
The snowy screens give way to a green meadow with a pond, a cave mouth and a few Octoroks. Keep heading north and east until you reach a clearing with one seed tree. Slash it with your sword and the game says, “You got Scent Seeds!” Scent Seeds draw monsters toward them with their smell. Your Seed Satchel takes them automatically.

Blaino’s Gym: how to get Ricky’s Gloves
Find the gym next to the Spool Swamp sign
Leave the tree to the east, then south one screen. A signpost reads “Spool Swamp” and “Blaino’s Gym” and points toward the red-roofed gym. Cut the grass on the way for a few hearts and Rupees, then go inside.

Box Blaino for 10 Rupees
Talk to Blaino and agree to the 10 Rupee bet. As soon as you enter the ring your items and rings are stripped away, and the game reminds you that you have only fists. If you try to use anything or break the rules, you pay a 20 Rupee penalty for a rematch. Punch Blaino whenever he lowers his guard, dodge his big swings, and keep going until he is knocked out of the ring. Blaino admits you are the champion and gives you Ricky’s Gloves. Your items come back when the bout ends, leaving you down 10 Rupees.

Meet Maple for a few Rupees
On the road north of the gym, Maple may crash into you if you have beaten enough monsters. Collect the loot she drops, here a handful of Rupees, before it vanishes. Maple flies off unhappy and comes back every time your kill count reaches the next multiple.

Return the gloves to Ricky and ride to Spool Swamp
Find Ricky in his clearing
Walk north and west over the plain and cross the little bridge, keeping the lake to your side. Ricky is waiting in a small fenced clearing between the trees. Give him the gloves and he tells you Spool Swamp is his backyard and invites you to hop into his pouch. This makes Ricky your animal companion. He punches with A, jumps single holes and low cliffs, and you leave his pouch with B.

Ride across the holes and ledges
Push toward each hole and Ricky jumps it, then ride up the sandy road beside the river. Beat Octoroks and Buzz Blobs with his punch. On the way Maple appears again and drops another pile of Rupees, about eleven in all, so grab them before she is gone. Keep riding north until the signpost for Spool Swamp Shore.

Iron Pot: trade the Ghastly Doll
Give the doll to the woman in the red-roofed house
A red-roofed house stands at the edge of the shore. Go inside and talk to the woman at the counter. She complains that it is too hot even beside her Soothing Pool and says she wants something creepy to give her chills. Show her the Ghastly Doll and agree to hand it over. She trades you a fine Iron Pot, trade item 4 on the trading sequence. In a linked game she then chats about travelling between worlds and about Nayru, but there is nothing to collect.

Spool Swamp Shore: Gasha Seed and the dig cave
Plant a Gasha Seed in the soft soil
Step outside and walk a screen east along the river bank, where purple flowers grow below the cliff. A patch of soft soil sits among the plants. The game offers to let you plant a Gasha Seed, so choose Plant. The tree needs about twenty kills to sprout and about twenty more before it bears a Gasha Nut, so return after you have fought through the next area.

Dig a hole by the cliff for a hidden cave
Equip the Shovel from the item screen and walk south along the cliff to the plants beside the stairs. Dig a hole between the bushes and a heart pops out of the dirt. Keep digging at the same spot and stairs appear, leading to a cave under the cliff. The room holds a pool between two red pedestals, three pots and some plants. Cut the plants to refill your Satchel, bringing it to 50 seeds, and to find a Rupee. Take the stairs back out.

Ride Ricky to the swamp and the Pegasus Seed tree
Cross the shore and enter the red tree maze
Equip the Power Bracelet, then walk west along the shore with Ricky. He tells you that Spool Swamp is up ahead and that you can find him there, then leaves. Cross the holes by leaping with him, and enter the swamp. The leaf-covered path winds through a maze of red autumn trees with stumps. Follow the pale path north and east, and cut through the dead leaves with your sword.

Hit the tree for Pegasus Seeds
A signpost at a fork points up toward Tarm Ruins. Follow it north past a second sign about treasure maps from the Horon Shop. A short way on, a red tree stands alone in a ring of red-leaf bushes. Slash it for Pegasus Seeds. The game says they make you as quick as the legendary steed. Equip them from the Satchel to dash. The tree bears seeds in autumn, so keep the season as it is.

Look at the jewel wall
Just before the tree you pass a stone wall carved with four symbols: a circle, a triangle, a square and an X. These are the four jewel slots that open Tarm Ruins later in the game. You cannot do anything here yet, so walk on. Lift the rocks along the south side with the Power Bracelet for a few Rupees and Bombs.

Floodgate Keeper and the Floodgate Key
Walk to the blue-roofed house
Follow the autumn road east. A sign nearby begins “My Secret” and tells you to read it in summer. Cross the wooden bridges over the water beside the sleeping figure on the far ledge, and keep going to the house with the blue roof. This is the Floodgate Keeper’s home.

Hit the switch and take the key from the drained pool
Inside, the Keeper admits that he lost the key to open the floodgates. A pool of water fills the right side of the house, and a switch sits in its lower right corner. Strike the switch with your sword so the pool drains. Walk onto the empty floor and pick up the Floodgate Key. The Keeper says that you can now open the floodgates and tells you the keyhole is reached from below ground.

Take the underground passage
Leave the house. With the water gone, a stairway has opened beside it, so go down into the cave. A blue Business Scrub inside hints that blue seeds make you fast. Equip Pegasus Seeds and dash across the bridge that vanishes, then push the green statues aside to clear a path through the rocks. A second Pegasus dash carries you across another gap. Climb the stairs at the end and cut the plants for a few Rupees. You come out on a high plateau, and the key is not needed in this stretch.

Hear the Subrosia hint and dodge the Shield sale
On the plateau, read the sign beside the patch of rock. It says the soil under the rock is great for planting seeds, so you may plant a Gasha Seed here later. A red Business Scrub up the slope tells you that a strange vortex lies south of the floodgates, linked to another world, and offers to sell you a Shield for 50 Rupees. You already own a shield, so decline.

Speak with Sokra
Walk north and look across the water to the ledge where Sokra stands. He announces that as he predicted the time has come, the Power of Seasons is needed, and that you must find the doorway to the Subrosian land and go to the Temple of Seasons. This matches the vortex the Scrub described. Walk on south along the cliff toward the stump by the pond.

Winter lake and Dimitri’s Flute
Use the stump to turn the lake to ice
Stand on the stump by the pond and use the Rod of Seasons to switch to winter. The lake freezes, so you can walk across it. Cross the ice and pick up a heart near the southern shore on the way.

Pay the Moblins to free Dimitri
On the lake a group of pig Moblins has bagged a captured Dimitri and plans to sell him. Talk to them and agree to their price of 50 Rupees, then pay again when they demand 30 more. That is 80 Rupees in total, and you keep 388. The Moblins leave pleased with their trade.

Take Dimitri’s Flute
Dimitri thanks you, says the two of you are friends and gives you Dimitri’s Flute. Play it and he comes to your aid. He tells you to climb on his back, that he chomps when you press A, that he swims like a fish even up waterfalls, and that you can pick him up and carry him with the Power Bracelet. Ride him back off the ice.

Swimming with Dimitri
Ride to the cave on the lake shore
Leave the ice and swim along the shore of the lake. A short stair leads from the water to a cave on a grassy bank. Inside, an old man between two red pedestals says that he waits for someone who knows many Essences of Nature. He has nothing for you yet, so leave and come back once you have collected more Essences.

Find the soft soil on the islet
Swim on past the whirlpools to a small island ringed with cliffs. A sign on it says the soil is great for planting. The island holds a patch of soft soil, so plant a Gasha Seed here if you have another one. Pick up the Rupees floating nearby as you go, taking you to 393 Rupees.
