Ocarina of Time Remake Footage Hints at Master Quest

A Dinolfos has been spotted in the Spirit Temple in new footage from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and longtime fans have a good reason to take notice. In the original Nintendo 64 version, Dinolfos do not appear in this dungeon. They were added to the Spirit Temple in Master Quest.

For anyone unfamiliar with it, Master Quest is an alternate, more challenging version of Ocarina of Time. The story and Hyrule remain the same, but the dungeons are reworked with different puzzles, enemy placements, and item locations. Nintendo described the 3DS version as having dungeons and puzzles that differ from the main game, with a higher level of challenge.

The Dinolfos encounter is especially interesting because it is specific to the Master Quest version of the Spirit Temple. Its appearance in the remake could mean Nintendo has included Master Quest content, or it may have moved the enemy into the standard dungeon as part of its changes. One screenshot can’t tell us which is the case.

Nintendo offered this two-game bonus disc as a The Wind Waker pre-order bonus in North America. It included both the original Ocarina of Time and Master Quest.

Nintendo has not announced Master Quest for the Switch 2 remake. The footage is a promising clue, though, and fans who played the 3DS version will recognize the connection. If the remake does include the alternate dungeon layouts, the Dinolfos may be our first glimpse of a second quest.
