The story of Tri Force Heroes is told by a small cast in the fashion-mad kingdom of Hytopia: King Tuft and his cursed daughter Princess Styla, the tailor Madame Couture, the commander Sir Combsly and the witch Lady Maud, who caused all the trouble. This page introduces each of them, followed by the Hytopia residents who run its shops, teach its rules and hand out rewards.

Main Cast

King Tuft

King Tuft

King Tuft rules Hytopia from the castle. He is heartbroken that his daughter Princess Styla is cursed, so he puts out a call for heroes and gathers them in the Witch-Hunting Brigade, which you join on arrival. He later rewards you for your progress: when you clear every challenge in an Area he sends you that Area’s exclusive gold Material, and when the curse is lifted he gives you a gift of Cursed Tights. The Outfits page covers the tights.

Princess Styla

Princess Styla was the most fashionable person in the kingdom until a parcel from Lady Maud covered her in a hideous jumpsuit that will not come off. Embarrassed, she shuts herself away. When the Links first meet her in the castle she is too upset to speak, and afterwards she wanders around Hytopia in hiding; some townspeople take her for a ghost. She is restored once you wear the Lady’s Ensemble in the castle.

Madame Couture

Madame Couture

Madame Couture is the tailor of Hytopia and the maker of magic outfits. You show her Materials and Rupees and she turns them into the outfits that change how you play. She is also Lady Maud’s sister, and once you show her one of the Lady’s Materials she explains how the Lady’s Ensemble, built from three of them, is the key to breaking the curse. See Outfits and Materials for the recipes.

Madame Couture's Apprentice

Madame Couture’s Apprentice

Madame Couture’s Apprentice works in the castle and in the multiplayer lobbies. He lets you browse the Catalog and the Material List there, so you can check outfit recipes without walking back to the shop. In Download Play he can also tailor outfits for the Links, though more slowly than Madame Couture.

Lady Maud

Lady Maud

Lady Maud is the witch of the Drablands who cursed Princess Styla, because she hates cute clothes. She appears in person in The Lady’s Lair, where she sends her three mechanical Pets after you, and is fought for the last time at the Sky Temple. The first-time chests of The Lady’s Lair and the Sky Temple hold the Lady’s Collar and the Lady’s Parasol, two of the three Materials for the Lady’s Ensemble.

Sir Combsly

Sir Combsly

Sir Combsly is the commander of the Witch-Hunting Brigade, the king’s group of heroes. Madame Couture’s Apprentice sends you to him as the new prospective hero, and he is the one who brings new heroes into the Brigade.

Hytopia Residents

Doppel Master

Doppel Master

The Doppel Master runs the Hall of the Doppels in Hytopia Castle. If you play alone, he awakens two wooden Doppels, one for each of the other two Links, and teaches you to switch between them. The Doppels share your Energy Gauge, only ever wear the Hero’s Tunic and can be thrown to hit switches or foes. You can learn more on the Single Player and Doppels page.

Mr. Tudor

Mr. Tudor

Mr. Tudor hands out tips around Hytopia Castle and the Hall of the Doppels, including how Doppel Panels, the stage-skip button and Hero Points work. He also writes the Drablands Diary, a series of notes about the places and monsters you meet.

Mr. Tudor, in a red hat and glasses, tells Link that the lit panels on the bottom screen are Doppel panels
Match Master

Match Master

The Match Master arranges your multiplayer games in the lobbies, putting you together with other heroes whether you play locally, through Download Play or online.

Street Merchant

Street Merchant

The Street Merchant sets up a stall in Hytopia once you have cleared three Levels. He sells a short list of Materials and always has Frilly Fabric, the Material for the Cheer Outfit, and he buys your spare Materials too, for a fifth of what he charges. After the curse is lifted he also sells Friendly Tokens.

Photo Bro

Photo Bro

The Photo Bro runs the Miiverse Gallery, which opens after your first Level. He gives you the Camera the first time you visit, so you can take pictures in the Drablands and show them off at the gallery.

Daily Riches Owner

Daily Riches Owner

The owner of Daily Riches keeps the Treasure Chest shop in the town. Once per real-world day you pick one of four chests: one holds the prize he announced and the rest hold only Freebies. If you keep losing, he eventually offers to order the Dapper Spinner outfit for you. The Hytopia page describes the game in more detail.

Faux Hero

Faux Hero

The Faux Hero is a boy in a green outfit who claims to be the real hero and cannot get past the castle guard. When you connect with new friends over local wireless or Download Play he rewards you with Friendly Tokens, up to 15 in all. You need tokens for the Timeless Tunic and the Tri Suit.

A green-clad boy with red hair tells Link that without friendly signals he will never be called a hero
Bearded Baron

Bearded Baron

The Bearded Baron stands near the Tri Force Hero Statue in the town square. He tells you the story of the statue, which stands for cooperation among three heroes, and he reminds you to thank the statue to save your game.
