Legend Mode Walkthrough

Legend Mode in Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is 32 scenarios: the 18 scenarios of the main story, then the five scenarios of Cia’s Tale, the five of Linkle’s Tale and the four of the Wind Waker arc. This page lists every scenario in play order, arc by arc, with its stage, the warriors you control, the boss and what clearing it unlocks, and each scenario name links to a full walkthrough with objectives, boss tactics and every collectible.

How the story opens up

The main story is a single line with one wide gap in the middle. After the four Prologue scenarios, the game opens three eras at once, Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, and you can clear them in any order. Each era is two scenarios long, and once all three are done, The Sacred Sword opens the Epilogue. From there the line is straight again: the Epilogue, the Ganondorf arc and the Grand Finale, ending with Liberation of the Triforce. Clearing a scenario always opens the next one, so there is no step to miss other than finishing the stage itself.

How the extra tales open

Linkle’s Tale appears as soon as you clear The Sorceress of the Woods, the third Prologue scenario, so it can be played alongside the rest of the main story. Its first scenario is The Girl in the Green Tunic, and each scenario after it opens the next one.

Cia’s Tale is a prequel built into the base game, and its scenarios appear on the scenario map while you work through the later part of the main story. It starts with The Dragon of the Caves and runs in a chain to Darkness Falls. Cia, Volga and Wizzro are the warriors, so these are the scenarios in which you play the villains.

The Wind Waker arc is the last piece to open. It needs the main story, Cia’s Tale and Linkle’s Tale all finished, and then A New Disturbance becomes available. Clearing the final scenario, Watchers of the Triforce, completes all 32 scenarios, and that is what opens Hero Mode.

All 32 scenarios by arc

Each arc below has a table with the stage, the warriors you control, the boss and what the scenario unlocks, followed by a short note on the arc. Giant bosses are named first, and officers or mini-bosses are given in brackets.

Prologue

The Prologue opens the game in four scenarios across Hyrule Field, the Eldin Caves, Faron Woods and the Valley of Seers. You begin as Link alone, gain Impa, Sheik and Lana as the stages go by, and collect the Bombs, Bow, Ocarina and Boomerang that later scenarios depend on. The last one splits the story into three eras that you can play in any order.

Skyward Sword

The Skyward Sword era is a two-scenario arc with Link and Fi against Ghirahim, first on Skyloft and then at the Sealed Grounds. It adds Fi and the Goddess Blade weapon type, and a sealed White Sword waits in a cannon keep.

  • Land in the Sky: Pumpkin Soup, Ghirahim, Volga, both Gold Skulltulas, heart pieces and Fi’s unlock.
  • Sealed Ambition: Turncoat Leader, The Imprisoned, Ghirahim, both Gold Skulltulas and heart pieces.

Ocarina of Time

The Ocarina of Time era sends Impa and Sheik up Death Mountain and then adds Darunia for the Lake Hylia fight. It brings in Darunia, Zelda and two new weapon types, and the Hookshot and Boomerang start to matter for collectibles.

  • Land of Myth: Death Mountain keeps, Darunia, both Gold Skulltulas, Heart Container and Piece of Heart.
  • The Water Temple: Lake Hylia, Ruto, King Dodongo, the false Zelda, Gold Skulltulas and heart items.

Twilight Princess

The Twilight Princess era follows Lana through a Hyrule swallowed by twilight. It is the arc that gives you Midna, Agitha and the Hookshot, and it ends with a fight against the dragon Argorok and Zant.

  • Land of Twilight: Lana in Twilight Field, Agitha, Midna, Gold Skulltulas, Heart Container, Piece of Heart.
  • The Shadow King: Palace of Twilight keeps, Magic Circles, Argorok and Zant, plus every collectible.

Epilogue

The Epilogue brings the three eras together at the Temple of the Sacred Sword and ends with the final stand against Cia. Most of the story roster becomes playable here, so these are the scenarios where you choose your team.

  • The Sacred Sword: Awaken the Sealed Statues, expose Wizzro, pull the Master Sword and find all collectibles.
  • A War of Spirit: Capture six Magic Keeps, survive the Dark Links, beat Ganondorf and find every collectible.
  • Shining Beacon: Capture the Sanctums, time the Great Fairy, beat Volga and Cia, and find every collectible.

Ganondorf

The Ganondorf arc lets you play as the villain himself in three scenarios, one after another, from the Gerudo Desert to the Valley of Seers and back to Hyrule Field. He takes every Heart Container and Piece of Heart in these stages, and Zant joins him partway through Battle of the Triforce.

  • Ganondorf’s Return: Conquer the Gerudo Desert, beat King Dodongo, Gohma and Manhandla, and get every collectible.
  • March of the Demon King: Free Zant and Ghirahim, beat Impa’s clones and Lana, and find every collectible.
  • Battle of the Triforce: Play Ganondorf at Hyrule Field, stop Impa, beat Link and Zelda, and find every collectible.

Grand Finale

The Grand Finale is the last stretch of the main story: a hunt for Ghirahim and Zant in the desert, and the climb through Ganon’s Tower. Seven warriors are available for the final fight.

  • Enduring Resolve: Hunt down Ghirahim and Zant in Gerudo Desert, save Lana from the heat, and find every collectible.
  • Liberation of the Triforce: Beat both Argoroks, Ganondorf and Ganon with the Light Arrows, plus every collectible.

Cia’s Tale

Cia’s Tale is the Dark Forces’ side of the story in five scenarios. You play Cia, Volga and Wizzro, and the arc covers how the sorceress assembled her army before the events of the main game.

  • The Dragon of the Caves: Find the ancient ring, take Volga’s keeps, beat two King Dodongos, and collect both Gold Skulltulas.
  • The Invasion Begins: Open the gates, stop the Goron Captains, beat Lana, Impa and Zelda, and find every collectible.
  • The Usurper King: Beat Midna, Argorok, Agitha and Zant, and find the Heart Container, Piece of Heart and Skulltulas.
  • The Demon Lord: Skyloft keeps, Ghirahim, The Imprisoned, Fi and both Gold Skulltulas.
  • Darkness Falls: Valley of Seers, Gohma, Manhandla, Wizzro, Ganondorf and both Gold Skulltulas.

Linkle’s Tale

Linkle’s Tale follows the Cucco farmer Linkle, who sets out for Hyrule Castle with her crossbows and keeps going the wrong way. It is a five-scenario side story that crosses Faron Woods, Lake Hylia, the Sealed Grounds, the Palace of Twilight and Ganon’s Tower.

  • The Girl in the Green Tunic: Faron Woods, Skull Kid, Cucco Chicks, Gold Skulltulas and heart items.
  • Powers Collide: Open the Water Temple, escort Darunia, beat Volga, plus both Gold Skulltulas and hearts.
  • The Demon Lord’s Plan: Stop the Imprisoned ritual, beat Ghirahim, and find both Gold Skulltulas and hearts.
  • Her True Self: Palace of Twilight keeps, Dark Zant, Dark Twili Midna, plus Gold Skulltulas and hearts.
  • The Other Hero: Rescue the Hylian Captains as Linkle, defend Hyrule Castle, and find both Gold Skulltulas, the Heart and Piece.

Wind Waker

The Wind Waker arc is the last four scenarios of Legend Mode. Link, Lana, Tetra and finally King Daphnes follow a portal to the Great Sea, and the arc ends with the fight against Phantom Ganon.

  • A New Disturbance: Win the Forsaken Fortress, get the Hammer, beat Gohma and Boss Blin, and find every collectible.
  • The Search for Cia: Play Lana in the Gerudo Desert, find Tetra, beat the Helmaroc King and collect every Skulltula and heart.
  • Reclaiming the Darkness: Beat Dark Cia in the Temple of Souls and find both Gold Skulltulas and the hearts.
  • Watchers of the Triforce: Capture the Sage Keeps, beat Gohma, Manhandla and Phantom Ganon, get every item.

Collectibles in every scenario

Every scenario holds one Heart Container, one Piece of Heart and two Gold Skulltulas, and each of them needs a named warrior, so the list of who to bring is part of the plan for the whole game. The Gold Skulltula for 1,000 KOs can be taken on any difficulty during your first clear. The second one needs Hard or Hero difficulty and a particular warrior or weapon; Hard can be chosen from the start, so you can go for it as soon as you have the warrior and any item it needs, and Hero Mode opens after all 32 scenarios are cleared. The Heart Container usually sits under a boulder and the Piece of Heart in a chest at a keep, and each scenario page names the spot. The full list, laid out arc by arc, is on the 100% completion checklist, and the detailed pages are Heart Containers and Pieces and Gold Skulltula Locations.

After the story

When the last scenario is cleared, Hero Mode opens and Free Mode lets you replay any scenario with the warriors you choose. Plan the replay around the warriors in the tables above, and use Adventure Mode for the rewards that Legend Mode does not hold. The reference pages cover everything the scenarios hand out: warriors, weapons, items and bosses.
