There are 70 Materials in Tri Force Heroes. Sixty-four of them belong to the eight Areas of the Drablands, eight per Area (three Bronze, three Silver and two Gold), and you earn most of them from the Treasure Chests at the end of Levels and Drablands Challenges. Six more are special: the three Lady’s Materials you need for the Lady’s Ensemble, plus Frilly Fabric, Friendly Token and Freebie, which come from shops and other players. This page lists every Material, the Levels that give it and its value.

How You Get Materials

At the end of every Level the Links reach a room with three Treasure Chests and each Link opens one. Two of the chests hold the same common Material and the third holds a rarer one that belongs to that Level. Before you play a Level, the Level Selection screen lists the Materials it can give, and once Drablands Challenges are open it also lists the reward of each challenge, with “No challenge” always first. Losing all your Fairies fails the Level and gives no Materials.

Drablands Challenges are harder versions of the Levels, and they unlock in an Area once you beat its Boss. Each challenge pays a different set of Materials: the reward climbs one step with every harder challenge, so the hardest challenge of the last Level in an Area is where the best Materials come from. The first Gold Material of each Area (Mystery Jade, Rainbow Coral, Star Fragment, Ice Rose, Vibrant Brooch, Crystal Skull, Sanctuary Mask and Steel Mask) never appears in a plain run, only in the rare chest of the harder challenges. Every challenge and its reward is on the Drablands Challenges page.

King Tuft rewards you with one exclusive Gold Material for each Area once you have cleared all 12 of that Area’s Drablands Challenges: Supple Leaf, Thornberry, Divine Whiskers, Beastie Patch, Brittle Papyrus, Golden Insect, Gold Dust and Fabled Butterfly. These eight never appear in Level chests. The Coliseum arenas can also drop the exclusive Gold Material of their Area to the winner of a match, and the Street Merchant can hand over missing ones in exchange for Hero Points.

Daily Riches, the chest game in Hytopia, lets you play once a day and announces the Material of the day before you choose a chest. Almost any Bronze, Silver or Level-chest Gold Material can be the prize. If you open the wrong chest you get a Freebie as a consolation. Sir Combsly, the commander of the Witch-Hunting Brigade in Hytopia Castle, gives you your first Hytopian Silk when he enlists you.

The Street Merchant arrives in Hytopia after you clear three Levels or challenges. His stall carries only a few Materials at a time and restocks daily, with prices fixed by Material (see the table below). He always has Frilly Fabric, and buys Materials from you at one fifth of his selling price. Once you have lifted Princess Styla’s curse he also sells Friendly Tokens. At Madame Couture’s you can open the Material List to see how many of each Material you own, and the Catalog shows which Materials each Outfit needs; see the Outfits page for the full recipes.

Lady’s Materials

The Lady’s Glasses, Lady’s Collar and Lady’s Parasol are story Materials with no rarity. Each is hidden in the bottom of the chest on your first clear of a Level, on top of the normal Materials: the Lady’s Glasses in the Forest Temple, the Lady’s Collar in The Lady’s Lair and the Lady’s Parasol in the Sky Temple. You use all three to make the Lady’s Ensemble, which lifts Princess Styla’s curse. The Street Merchant will not buy them, so you cannot sell them.

Frilly Fabric

Frilly Fabric

Frilly Fabric is sold only by the Street Merchant, who always keeps it in stock, for 3,000 Rupees. The Cheer Outfit needs three pieces. He pays 600 Rupees for one.

Friendly Token

Friendly Token

The Faux Hero gives you a Friendly Token each time you connect with someone new over local wireless or Download Play, up to 15 in total. After you lift the princess’s curse, the Street Merchant also sells them for 2,000 Rupees each and buys them back for 400. Outfits that need Friendly Tokens, such as the Timeless Tunic and the Tri Suit, cannot be made without them.

A Hytopian in the Pasarelia square says they already have 15 Friendly Tokens, with the box fully typed
Freebie

Freebie

The Freebie is the consolation prize of Daily Riches, handed to you when you open the wrong chest. The Street Merchant does not sell it and pays 50 Rupees for one.
