A Link Between Worlds hides a handful of Rupee-fueled games and side quests in both Hyrule and Lorule. Most charge an entry fee and pay back more if you play well, and seven of them hand out a Piece of Heart. This page lists every one: where it is, what it costs, how it works and what you win.

Hyrule Mini-Games
Cucco Ranch
The Cucco Girl runs this pen in a house just south of Kakariko Village. Your job is simple: dodge the Cuccos flying overhead for 30 seconds, and one touch ends the round. There are four levels, and beating each opens the next. Egg costs 20 Rupees and pays 40. Chick costs 30 and pays 60, with larger Cuccos. Rooster costs 50 and pays 150 Rupees plus a Piece of Heart. Endless, which opens after Rooster, costs 10 Rupees and has no time limit: survive 100 seconds and you start earning Rupees, with the prize growing the longer you last, and if you last all the way to 999.99 seconds the Cucco Girl stops the game, names you the Cuccomaster and gives you 3,000 Rupees. Stay near the middle of the pen so you have room to dodge in every direction.

Rupee Rush (Hyrule)
The Rupee Rush Gal runs this course south of Kakariko Village. It costs 50 Rupees, and you get 30 seconds to grab as many Rupees as you can, with a catch: no timer shows while you run. Speak to her before 30 seconds are up or you lose everything you gathered. The closer to the limit you finish, the bigger the multiplier on your haul. Score 100 Rupees or more and she gives you a Piece of Heart. Some Rupees hide under stone tiles or inside boulders, so bring the Tornado Rod or the Hammer (rent them at Ravio’s Shop).

Hyrule Hotfoot
A Racing Bro waits northeast of Lake Hylia. Pay him 20 Rupees and run on foot to his brother, who stands behind the Miner’s House, before time runs out. The Pegasus Boots are strongly recommended. The first race gives you 75 seconds and pays 100 Rupees, and winning it opens the second race at 65 seconds, which pays a Piece of Heart. After that, you can race again to beat your best time and earn 300 Rupees for each new record. Do not use the Bell to warp to a Hyrule Weather Vane mid-race: the finishing Bro catches the shortcut and disqualifies you, although a trip through Lorule does not count against you.

Fortune’s Choice (Hyrule)
The Fortune’s Choice Guy keeps a house in Kakariko Village. For 50 Rupees you may open one of two chests: one holds a Silver Rupee worth 100, the other a single Green Rupee. It is a coin flip that costs you 50 to win a net 50, so it is only worth playing if you enjoy the gamble.
Lorule Mini-Games
Rupee Rush (Lorule)
The Rupee Rush Guy runs the Lorule version south of Thieves’ Town. It works like the Hyrule course, with the same unseen 30-second limit and the same bonus for finishing close to it, but costs 100 Rupees and needs 150 Rupees or more for the Piece of Heart. The Sand Rod is the key tool here, because it lifts you onto the most valuable Rupees. Talk to the Guy with a split second to spare and the bonus can turn a modest haul into a big one, but run past 30 seconds and you lose the lot.

Octoball Derby
Look for a forest clearing in Lorule’s version of the Haunted Grove, where Derby Boy, Derby Girl and a friendly Octorok named Octo run a baseball game. It costs 50 Rupees for 30 pitches. Swing at each ball to smash pots behind the field: a red pot is worth 1 Rupee, a gold pot is worth 5, and hitting three pots in a row sends a Crow across the screen that pays 20 Rupees if you hit it. Strike one of the Sand Crabs in the infield and every pot resets. Press the Circle Pad up or down to change your stance and shift the ball’s height and distance, and swing early or late to aim left or right. Reach 100 Rupees for the first time and you win a Piece of Heart.

Fortune’s Choice (Lorule)
The Lorule Fortune’s Choice Guy keeps house in Thieves’ Town. It costs 200 Rupees to open any 3 of 15 chests. The prizes are one Piece of Heart (first time only), two Gold Rupees worth 300 each, three Silver Rupees worth 100, three Red Rupees worth 20, three Green Rupees worth 1, and one each of Monster Guts, Monster Horn and Monster Tail. The Piece of Heart chest turns into a third Gold Rupee after you have taken it, so replaying can still be profitable.

Treacherous Tower
On Lorule’s Death Mountain the Devilish Girl sells you entry to a three-course gauntlet of 5, 15 and 50 floors for 100, 200 and 300 Rupees. The Intermediate course gives a Piece of Heart on the first clear, and the Advanced course rewards your first win with the Super Lamp and your second with the Super Net, plus 5,000 Rupees each time. The full floor lists and strategy are on the Treacherous Tower page.

Side Quests and Rupee Sources
Treasure Hunter Caves
Seven small puzzle caves are hidden across both worlds, each with a chest holding a Silver Rupee (100 Rupees) in Hyrule or a Gold Rupee (300 Rupees) in Lorule. A Treasure Hunter usually waits at the door muttering a hint about the trick the cave needs. The Hyrule caves lie behind a cracked wall east of the Graveyard (Wall Merge), on a ledge south of the Haunted Grove (glide down holding a Cucco), inside the Eastern Ruins (Wall Merge), at the east edge of Death Mountain north of Zora’s Domain (Wall Merge and Hookshot), and inside the Southern Ruins (Boomerang and Hookshot). The Lorule caves lie under a bush west of the Vacant House (Pegasus Boots) and on the path east of Misery Mire (Sand Rod and Tornado Rod).

Bee Guy and the Bee Badge
The Bee Guy lives in the house with a bee sign in the middle of Kakariko Village. He asks you to catch bees for him and gives you a Net to help. Bring him an ordinary bee in a bottle for a Purple Rupee worth 50 Rupees; bring him a rare Golden Bee and he rewards you with the Bee Badge, which keeps bees from bothering you when you cut grass in Hyrule or Lorule. Later Golden Bees earn you a Gold Rupee each.

Shady Guy
The Shady Guy stands below Sahasrahla’s House in Kakariko Village and bolts as soon as you come near. He steals the Smooth Gem from Oren in Zora’s Domain and runs back to the village, so you have to catch him by Wall Merging into a nearby wall and sneaking up behind him. Talk to him there and he sheepishly gives you the Pegasus Boots, though he has already sold the gem on to the Street Merchant. The Boots make Hyrule Hotfoot far easier.

Street Merchant
Once Yuga has sealed Seres in a painting, the Street Merchant sets up his stall in Kakariko Village. He sells an empty Bottle for 100 Rupees, a Heart for 10 Rupees and, after the Shady Guy pawns it to him, the Smooth Gem for 200 Rupees. The gem is the item Oren wants back in exchange for the Zora’s Flippers, so buy it if you want to swim.

Great Rupee Fairy
In Lorule, a cave behind the Bomb Shop hides the Great Rupee Fairy’s fountain, and you need the rented Big Bomb Flower to blast the rock open. Throw 50 or 200 Rupees at a time into the fountain, which restores your hearts and releases fairies. Once your donations reach 3,000 Rupees in total, she hands you a Bottle (more in Bottle Locations). After that you can no longer donate, but fairies still gather in the fountain whenever you return.
