Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition has 43 weapon types spread across its playable warriors. Each type belongs to one warrior, has one of five elements (Fire, Water, Lightning, Light or Darkness) and climbs through four tiers to a Multi-Element weapon. A weapon carries stars and one to six skills, some of them sealed until you score enough KOs, and you can move skills between two weapons of the same type at the Smithy. This page lists every type warrior by warrior, then explains tiers, stars, skills, seals, the Legendary skill and fusion.

How weapons work

Tiers

Every weapon type has a Lv. 1, Lv. 2 and Lv. 3 weapon, for example the Knight’s Sword, White Sword and Magical Sword for Link’s Hylian Sword. A higher tier gives more base attack, more skill slots and more elements. The Lv. 4 weapon is the “+” version, such as the Magical Sword+, and above that sits a Multi-Element weapon like the Darkmagic Sword. Lv. 1 to 3 weapons come from Legend Mode chests and results screens and from the base Adventure Map. The Master Sword is the exception: it is one single weapon with no tiers. The 8-Bit look is only an alternate appearance for a type’s top weapon and is switched on in Game Settings.

4th-tier weapons

Lv. 4 weapons and Multi-Element weapons are not found in Legend Mode. You win them as battle rewards in Adventure Mode, and many require an A rank on the battle. The Twilight Map and the Termina Map hold several of the Lv. 4 weapons; the Magical Sword+, for example, is the prize for a Twilight Map battle. Seven Multi-Element weapons are new in this edition: Gleambolt Pegasus Boots, Darkfire Nice Sand Wand, Din’s Harp of Oceans, Awakening Sunbell, Flaming Wrecker Sword, Crackling Nice Hammer and Burning Frame. See Adventure Mode for the maps.

Elements

Fire makes enemies explode when they land and the blast hits their neighbours. Water bubbles enemies and deals damage over time. Lightning does extra damage to airborne enemies. Light grows stronger on consecutive hits on groups, and Darkness grows stronger on consecutive hits on a single enemy. When a scenario recommends an element with a thumbs-up icon, a matching weapon deals more damage. A Multi-Element weapon has two elements.

Stars

A weapon has between 1 and 5 stars. Each star adds 10 percent of the weapon’s base strength, so a 5-star weapon beats a 1-star copy of the same weapon. The Stars+ skill raises the odds of a high-star drop, and the Weapon Star I, II and III mixtures from the Apothecary raise stars too; see Bazaar and Badges.

Skills

A weapon holds from 1 to 6 skills. They are chosen at random when the weapon drops, and they add effects such as extra Rupees or more damage against certain enemies. An empty slot can be filled by fusion at the Smithy.

Sealed skills

Some skills start sealed. A sealed skill opens once you defeat a set number of enemies with that weapon: 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 (the Heart Power skill) or 10,000, the last being the Legendary skill. Higher thresholds hold stronger, rarer skills. At the Smithy you can appraise a sealed skill to see what it is, at 10 Rupees for each KO required. A sealed skill cannot be fused or removed until it opens.

Legendary skill

The Legendary skill raises a weapon’s Basic Weapon Strength to 560. It needs 10,000 KOs with that weapon, but it will not open until the Master Sword’s Exorcism skill has opened, so unlock that first.

Master Sword

Master Sword skills

The Master Sword has two special skills. Evil’s Bane adds 200 attack; to open it you must first own every Lv. 1, 2 and 3 weapon, then reach 10,000 KOs. Exorcism adds 400 more for 900 in total; you need every weapon, including the Multi-Element ones, and then 15,000 KOs. Exorcism earns the True Master Sword medal and unlocks the Legendary seal on all other weapons.

Fusion at the Smithy

The Smithy in the Bazaar opens after you clear The Sorceress of the Woods. Pick a base weapon with an empty skill slot and a source weapon of the same type, pay Rupees based on the source and the skill, and the skill moves over. The source weapon is destroyed, only one skill moves per fusion, and sealed skills cannot be moved. The Smithy can also remove a skill for 30,000 Rupees, which cannot be undone, and it sells spare weapons for Rupees. You can hold up to 20 weapons of each type.

Weapon types by warrior

Ganon and Cucco have no weapons: they are playable only in Ganon’s Fury and Cucco’s Fury and use a fixed attack. Every other warrior is listed below with each weapon type, its element, the first weapon of the type and how you get it. For how to unlock each warrior see Playable Warriors.
