Materials are the crafting items of Hyrule Warriors. They come in three tiers, bronze, silver and gold, and nearly every enemy you defeat can drop one. Bronze comes from common captains, silver from elite enemies, giant bosses and warriors, and gold only from giant bosses and warriors. You spend them on badges and mixtures in the Bazaar, so what you farm depends on which warrior’s badge you want. Everything you pick up in a battle is listed on the Materials Obtained pages of the results screen, and a silver material is marked Silver! there.

Material tiers
Bronze materials
Bronze is the common tier, and it is the only thing basic captains drop. Elite enemies such as Lizalfos, Moblins and Darknuts also drop a bronze item, with a chance of their silver one. Bronze is cheap and plentiful, and a single Tier I mixture asks for twenty of them.

Silver materials
Silver items come from the more dangerous enemies: unique captains like the Hylian Captain and Goron Captain, enemies such as Gibdos, Stalmasters and Big Poes, every giant boss and every warrior. Each enemy type drops at most two tiers, so an elite enemy never drops gold.

Gold materials
Gold is the rare tier, dropped only by giant bosses and warriors. Warriors are the main source of gold, so the warrior table below tells you whom to go after. A Tier III mixture needs only one gold material of any kind.

When materials drop
Cuccos and infantry soldiers do not drop materials, and any enemy only drops one when it does not drop a weapon. A drop is specific to the enemy that held it: a Bokoblin Captain gives Old Rag and a Lizalfos gives a Lizalfos Scale or Lizalfos Gauntlet. Bronze and silver or silver and gold are the two tiers an enemy can give.

Material drops by enemy
Basic captains
These enemies give a bronze material and nothing else, so they are the easiest source of bronze. Look for them in every scenario.

| Enemy | Bronze material |
|---|---|
Elite enemies and unique captains
Each of these drops a bronze item and, less often, a silver one. Use the silver drops for badges that ask for them, and use any silver piece for Tier II mixtures.

Material drops by giant boss
Giant bosses never give bronze. They drop silver and, rarely, gold, and each boss has its own pair. Defeat them again in Free Mode or in Adventure Mode battles to keep collecting. The Boss Guide explains each fight.

Material drops by warrior
Warriors drop their own silver and gold items, and these are the materials their own badges are made from. Link’s badges, for example, use Link’s Boots and Link’s Scarf. Beat a warrior in a scenario where they appear on the enemy side, or earn the drops with a Material+ boost, to collect more of them.

Farming tips
Material+ skill
A weapon with the Material+ skill makes enemies lean toward their rarer drop, so equip one before you hunt silver or gold. Weapons come from battle drops and rewards, and you can build up skills by fusing weapons at the Smithy.

Material Master mixture
The Material Master mixture, brewed at the Apothecary, lifts rare drop chances for one battle. Mixtures last a single battle and only one can be active at a time, so brew it right before a farming run.

Focus Spirit reward
Focus Spirit has a reward that nudges enemies toward their rarer drops while it is active. Keep the Magic gauge full and trigger Focus Spirit when a large group of captains arrives.

Fairy skills
A companion fairy can carry the Material Master or Material Master+ rental skill, which also raises the rare material drop rate. The fairy needs a mix of the Aspiring, Resolute, Valiant and Relaxed personality traits for it. See My Fairy for how to raise those traits.

Where to farm
Replay a cleared scenario in Free Mode with the warrior whose badge you need, and choose one where the enemy you want is plentiful: Aeralfos, Lizalfos and Darknut packs, Stalmasters, and giant bosses in the scenarios where they appear. Warriors and giant bosses can also be fought in Adventure Mode and in the Boss Challenge. Spend each trip clearing as many captains and elite enemies as you can.
