This chapter covers the eastern half of Rolling Ridge after the Crown Dungeon. You play the Goron Dance for the Brother Emblem, win the Rock Brisket on the Target Carts ride, and trade your way through the Goron chain of items. Along the way you collect a Piece of Heart, two Gasha Seeds and a few chests. The Mermaid Keys come from the bomb-dodge Goron game and from the Goron Dance in the past, and you need both before Mermaid’s Cave will open. Expect to switch between the present and the past several times, using the Tune of Currents and the Harp of Ages (see the Harp of Ages).

Goron Dance Hall in the present: Brother Emblem

Play the Goron Dance for the Brother Emblem

In the present, each try at the Goron Dance costs 10 Rupees. The dance has eight rounds: press B to move on the rhythm sound and press A to hold a pose on the other sound. Dance well through six rounds to win a prize, and three mistakes end the game (see the minigames). Winning the first time gives you the Brother Emblem, and the Goron on the dance floor welcomes you as a brother to the Gorons. You need the emblem to get past the Goron guard at the stairs.

Pink ridge in the past: soft soil and the Tune of Currents

Dig the soft soil in the bush patch

Go to the pink ridge in the past and walk up to the large stone Goron head. On the ledge next to it, slash the bushes and dig in the middle of the patch, and the game tells you the soft earth is good for planting. Plant a Gasha Seed here if you have one, then return later for the Gasha Nut (see Gasha Seeds).

Play the Tune of Currents to reach the present

Equip the Harp of Ages and play the Tune of Currents on the same ledge. A time portal opens, and you travel forward to the present on the blue ridge. Use the same tune again from the portal in the present to return to the past (see time portals).

Blue ridge in the present: Piece of Heart and Gasha Seed

Collect the Piece of Heart on the ledge

On the blue ridge, find the ledge with two boulders next to a time portal pillar. Play the Harp of Ages there to open the portal, and step onto the ledge to take the Piece of Heart. The game tells you that collecting four pieces makes an extra Heart Container, and you can check your count on the Item Screen (see Heart Piece locations).

Open the grey cave chest for a Gasha Seed

Enter the grey cave on the present ridge and open the chest near its exit. It holds a Gasha Seed, and the game tells you to plant it in soft soil, so save it for the soil you found in the past.

In the past, go into the tan wooden building beyond the pink ridge. The Goron host says the gallery is a big hit and offers the Lava Juice to a player with an excellent score. Each try costs 20 Rupees. Hit the balls back at the targets with your sword: blue targets score 30, the fairy scores 100, and red targets and imps take points away.

Score 100 or more for the Lava Juice

The game totals your score after ten pitches. A total of 100 or more wins the Lava Juice as the prize. A 350-point run also wins a Gasha Seed, with a box telling you to plant it in soft soil. You need the Lava Juice for the Letter of Introduction (see the minigames).

Target Carts in the present: Rock Brisket

Ride the cart and hit all twelve targets

In the present, enter the Target Carts building on the blue ridge and pay 10 Rupees for a ride. Stand in the cart as it runs along the rails and fire the Seed Shooter at the targets. The game reports how many you hit, and a ride that hits all twelve is a perfect. After a perfect ride the Goron host hands you the Rock Brisket, and later rides pay 20 Rupees for a lower score.

Goron trades: Rock Brisket, Goron Vase and Goronade

Trade the Rock Brisket for the Goron Vase

In the present, a starving Goron waits in the cave south of the Goron Dance Hall, marked by a Rolling Ridge sign. Give him the Rock Brisket and he thanks you, and in return he gives you the Goron Vase. Keep the vase, because the next Goron wants it.

Trade the Goron Vase for Goronade in the present

Stay in the present and go back to the same cave. The Goron there asks for something unique to treasure. Give him the Goron Vase, and he gives you a Goronade in return. You need the Goronade for the bomb-dodge Goron game (see the trading sequence).

Bomb-dodge Goron game and the Mermaid Keys

Start the bomb-dodge game

Return to the present and go to the grey Goron building on the blue ridge. The Goron host offers a game in which bombs fall all around you. The rules say to dodge or throw the bombs and that one hit ends the run, and the host then shows you a prize before asking if you are ready. Written guides say the first game is free once you bring the Goronade to the tired Goron, and this chapter ends as the game begins.

Mermaid Keys and the rest of the route

The bomb-dodge game gives the Old Mermaid Key when you win it once. Take the Lava Juice from the shooting gallery to the Goron in the sandy cave, who trades you the Letter of Introduction, and note that written guides say this trade needs the Old Mermaid Key. With the letter, play the Goron Dance for the Mermaid Key. Hold both keys before you enter Mermaid’s Cave.

Linked secrets on East Rolling Ridge

Hear the Biggoron and Subrosian secrets

In a Linked Game, a Goron in a grey cave on the blue ridge tells you about a Goron the size of a mountain who forges the great sword. That is the Biggoron secret. Later, a Subrosian in the same grey cave asks you to repeat his secret to his brother, which is the Subrosian secret. You carry both to Oracle of Seasons (see linked game secrets).

Hear the smith secret from the past

In the past, a Subrosian beside the Mystery Tree on the pink ridge gives you advice about defense and then a secret for the master of the Subrosian Smithy. Carry the secret to Oracle of Seasons, and the smith’s reward there upgrades your shield in this game, as the linked secrets list explains (see equipment upgrades).
