This chapter takes you through the Deku Forest as Queen Ambi’s age sees it. You pick up the Mystery Seeds that Ambi demands, trade them for Bombs, then use a Bomb to blast open the entrance to the Wing Dungeon. Along the way you cash in a Piece of Heart, collect Gasha Seeds, and in a Linked Game you carry the Deku Secret to Farore for a bigger Seed Satchel.

Lynna Village ball game (the past)
Hit the targets for a Gasha Seed
In Lynna Village, 400 years ago, step into the shooting gallery building if you want the Gasha Seed prize. Each try costs 10 Rupees. Balls are pitched at you and you swing your sword to bat them back at the targets: a fairy is worth 100 points, a blue target 30, a red target costs you 10, and a missed ball or an imp costs 50. Your prize depends on the total after ten pitches (see Minigames).

Score from 250 to 349 for a Gasha Seed; 350 or more can win a Magic Ring, and 150 to 249 pays 30 Rupees. A first round of 270 points earns a Gasha Seed, which you plant later in soft soil. A second 10-Rupee round that finishes on 260 earns another, so you leave with two Gasha Seeds. Decline further tries once you have what you need.

Deku Forest: Gasha chest and Heart Piece (the past)
Leave the village for the forest
Leave Lynna Village toward the forest on its western side. You cross the river by the bridge, pass a garden of flowers and walk through a short cave of narrow passages before you come out among the pink-and-olive trees of the Deku Forest. Villagers here will tell you that Queen Ambi wants magical seeds that an owl knows about.

Gasha Seed chest in the block room
A passage in the forest leads down some stairs into an underground room with a chest and a row of pits. Keese, Zols and Hardhat Beetles roam here, so deal with them first. Push the green blocks across the pits one by one to build a path to the chest and open it for another Gasha Seed.

Burn the tree for Piece of Heart 4
Climb back to the forest and follow the winding path northwest and then south toward the shore. Equip the Seed Satchel and throw an Ember Seed at the lone tree beside the water to burn it away, uncovering a staircase. Go down to a small cave with a heart floating in an alcove and take it.

This is your fourth Piece of Heart (Heart Piece locations), which completes a set of four and turns into a new Heart Container with a full refill of your life meter.

Deku Scrubs, the Deku Secret and the Mystery Seeds (the past)
Deku Secret from the singing scrub
Walk the forest paths west, fighting the red Octoroks as you go. By the river in the southwest, a Deku Scrub sings about his love of seeds and offers to share a secret. Say yes to hear it all and answer yes when he asks whether you can remember it. This is the Deku Secret for Seasons players; it appears afterward in Farore’s book. In an unlinked game the scrub’s words do nothing else, so move on.

Shield scrubs and the 30 Rupees chest
Keep going and talk to the other scrubs along the path. Some offer to sell you a Shield, with the price shrinking from 50 Rupees down to 10 as you advance. In this Linked Game you already hold the Wooden Shield, so refuse them. If you are playing an unlinked game, the 10-Rupee offer at the end of the path is the one to take to get your first shield.

At the end of the path, enter the cave. Cut the bushes, lift the stone and open the chest for 30 Rupees. Another passage takes you back to the surface by the Mystery Seed tree.

Get the Mystery Seeds from the tree
Stand by the tree in the clearing and hit it with your sword to shake it. You receive 18 Mystery Seeds, a new seed type that gives a random effect from the other kinds and is stored in your Seed Satchel (see Mystical Seeds). Watch for a Spiny Beetle hiding under a bush on the way.

An owl statue stands beside the tree. Throw a Mystery Seed at it to wake it up: owl statues talk when a Mystery Seed touches them, and this one has a few words for you. One seed is all it takes.

Ambi’s Palace: hand over the seeds for Bombs (the past)
Deliver the seeds
Retrace your steps toward the palace. A soldier of the guard spots your seeds and says he will take you to the palace. Follow him across the courtyard and the garden path, between the guards, to Queen Ambi.

Give her your Mystery Seeds. Ambi takes every one you are carrying and asks your name, then offers a reward: 10 Bombs. Put the Bombs on an item button for later. A short cutscene follows in which a sinister voice warns of a darker age to come, and then the guard sends you on your way.

You are out of Mystery Seeds after this, but you find more under bushes later, and the owl statues in the dungeon only need a few.

Farore’s Hall of Secrets: Seed Satchel upgrade (the present, Linked Game)
Return to the Maku Tree via the time portal
Walk back through Lynna Village to the Maku Sprout in the past and listen to her: she senses an Essence of Time in the Western Woods, which is where the Wing Dungeon waits. Then step on the time portal pad in Lynna Village, equip the Harp of Ages and play the Tune of Echoes to travel to the present.

You arrive at the grounds outside the Maku Tree in Lynna City. Enter the Maku Tree and go to Farore’s Hall of Secrets.

Tell the Deku Secret
Speak to Farore and read her book if you want to see which secrets you have stored. Choose to tell her a secret and enter the return secret that the Deku Scrub in the Natzu region of Seasons gave you (it is different for every save file, so use your own). In a Linked Game this raises your Seed Satchel from 20 to 50 seeds per type; your satchel is topped up to its new limit as well. See Linked Game secrets for how the exchange works.

If you are not playing a Linked Game, skip this stop. The first 50-seed upgrade comes later from Tingle instead.

Back to the past
Leave the Maku Tree and walk to the time portal in the clearing of the present Lynna City. Play the Tune of Echoes to open it and travel back to Lynna Village in the past (see Time portals).

Lynna Village: Advance Shop and Maple (the past)
100 Rupee Advance Shop
In Lynna Village, a red-roofed building houses the 100 Rupee Advance Shop. Every item costs 100 Rupees, and the shopkeeper says the shop exists only on the Game Boy Advance version. Nothing here is needed for a normal run, and you can leave empty-handed, as you have only 99 Rupees at this point.

Maple crashes into you
Walk back out through the village to the flowered clearing just outside it. Maple flies in on her broom and announces she is after your stuff. Step into her path so that you collide: both of you drop items. Pick up everything you can before she does. Collecting more than she does makes her grumble, and you leave with a handful of Rupees.

Opening the Wing Dungeon (the past)
Bomb the rock shrine
Follow the forest path to the centre of the Deku Forest. A soldier asks whether you have found what Ambi wants, which you have. A mound of rock stands in a circle of flowers there. Set a Bomb beside it from your item button to blast it open and reveal the door of the Wing Dungeon.

Dungeon: Wing Dungeon (Level 2), first rooms
Entrance, owl statue and Spiked Beetles
Go through the door. The title card reads Level 2, Wing Dungeon. The first room has bird-faced statues and a blue doorway. Throw a Mystery Seed at the owl statue in the room beyond for a hint about the dungeon, then equip the Wooden Shield on A: Spiked Beetles in the next rooms can be held off with the shield; when one is lying on its back, finish it with your sword.

Jars in the dungeon hold hearts and seeds and refill when you re-enter. If your life runs low, leave the dungeon and cut the bushes outside for hearts.

Block puzzles and the track room
Beyond the beetle room you reach rooms with raised blocks in two colours. Work your way through them toward the stairs and keep your shield up against the beetles.

Next comes a room with minecart rails and a yellow arrow tile. Rails like these lead to minecarts, and the Small Keys, Dungeon Map, Compass and the rest of the layout are covered in the Wing Dungeon chapter.
