RewardsTrading sequence items 8 to 12 of 12: Funny Joke, Touching Book, Magic Oar, Sea Ukulele, Broken Sword, then the Noble Sword (Sword L-2); 3 rings appraised (Blue Joy Ring, Light Ring L-1, Heart Ring L-2) and sold as duplicates for a profit of 30 Rupees; 1 unappraised ring from a Gasha Nut; 3 soft soil spots planted with Gasha Seeds; the Clock Shop Secret (Linked Game); 2 Maple races on Talus Peaks plus 1 near Lynna City; no Heart Pieces

This chapter finishes the trading sequence. You trade the Cheesy Mustache for the Funny Joke, cheer up a gloomy boy in the past for the Touching Book, hand it to Maple for the Magic Oar, swap the oar for the Sea Ukulele at Rafton’s, give the ukulele to an old Zora for the Broken Sword, and let Patch turn it into the Noble Sword in his Crazy Cart ceremony. Between the trades you appraise rings, harvest and plant Gasha Seeds and collect a Linked Game secret.

South Lynna: the Clock Shop Secret (present)

Hear the secret at the Ember Seed tree

In a Linked Game an old woman appears beside the Ember Seed tree in South Lynna once Skull Dungeon is behind you. She tells you to dig behind the Clock Shop in Horon Village, in Holodrum, and give her friend a secret she is about to recite. Answer Yes when she asks whether you have it, then write the password down, because it is different on every save file. Told to the old man in the hidden cave in Seasons, it earns a sword upgrade, and his reply is a second secret for Farore (see Linked Game secrets).

Lynna City: rings and the Funny Joke (present)

Appraise three rings at Vasu’s

Walk into Vasu Jewelers beside the shop in Lynna City and choose Appraise. Each ring costs 20 Rupees to identify. Your three unknown rings turn out to be the Blue Joy Ring (beasts drop double hearts), the Light Ring L-1 (your sword fires beams) and the Heart Ring L-2 (lost hearts come back quickly). You already own all three, so Vasu buys each duplicate for 30 Rupees. That costs 60 and pays 90, so you finish 30 Rupees up (see Magic Rings).

Trade the Cheesy Mustache for the Funny Joke

Walk northwest of the mermaid statue to the footbridge over the river by a blue-roofed house, where two comedians stand. The one on the right says they cannot go on with their act. Give him the Cheesy Mustache you got in Symmetry Village and he teaches you the Funny Joke, the eighth item of the sequence. You cannot see this item in your menu. You use it only by telling it to the right person in the past.

Optional: Lynna City’s family houses

Two houses nearby are worth a short visit. One house has a child who asks whether the chicken or the egg came first, and in the next house Bipin offers advice about Gasha trees. Bipin says that harder-to-reach soil gives rarer nuts, that trees ripen with the number of monsters you slay, and that planting in strange spots is rewarded. None of it changes the sequence (see Bipin and Blossom’s child for the baby).

Crescent Island: Gasha Nut and a new soft soil (present)

Warp to the Crescent Island tree

From Lynna City, shake a Gale Seed out of the Seed Satchel and pick the Crescent Island tree on the map. The tornado drops you on the island beside its Mystical Tree, in the present, among palm trees and sandy channels. A red Octorok patrols the shore here, so shoot or slash it before you move on (see Mystical Seeds).

Cut down your Gasha Tree for a ring

Climb to the high ledge on the south side of the island, where you planted a Gasha Seed earlier, and slash the grown tree. It drops a Gasha Nut, and cracking it open reveals an unappraised ring. Take it to Vasu on your next visit. A tree withers when you take its nut, which leaves soft soil. Plant another Gasha Seed at once (see Gasha Seeds and Soft Soil).

Ride Dimitri to the northeast islet

Open the item menu, equip Dimitri‘s Flute, and play it by the shore to call Dimitri. Ride him north-east over the water to the small sandy islet in the island’s far corner. Hop off and cut the four bushes, and soft soil appears under them. Plant a Gasha Seed here. It is a rare spot, so the nut it grows is better than most. Ride Dimitri back afterwards (see Animal Companions).

Maple and the Maku Tree (present)

Race Maple in the fields

Back on the mainland, a witch on a broom swoops in while you walk across the grassy fields near Lynna City. It is Maple, and her bump scatters Rupees, hearts, bombs and seeds. Race her to pick up as much as you can before she does. This one pays only a handful of Rupees, and nothing is lost by skipping it (see Maple).

Ask the Maku Tree where to go

Walk through Lynna City to the Maku Tree and talk to it. It says it thinks a mountain north of Nayru’s House has something to do with the essences, but it cannot remember more. That is the ridge where Crown Dungeon lies. First finish the trade, because the Broken Sword is the last item you need before Patch.

The Touching Book and the Magic Oar (past)

Tell the Funny Joke to the gloomy boy

Travel to the past through a Time Portal (Tune of Echoes) and walk to the footbridge in the northern part of Lynna Village, the same spot where the comedians stand in the present. In the house just south of the gate to Queen Ambi’s palace live a depressed boy who wants to laugh but has forgotten how. Pick Tell him the Funny Joke. It does not cheer him up, but he lets you take a book from his shelf, the Touching Book, the ninth item (see Time Portals).

Defeat 30 enemies and bump into Maple

Maple only appears after you have defeated 30 enemies (15 while wearing Maple’s Ring). Take a walk through the sand cave and the rocky highlands nearby, slaying everything that attacks you, until Maple flies on screen, then bump into her. She cries that her grandmother Syrup took her picture book, and when she sees the Touching Book she sobs and swaps it for the Magic Oar, the tenth item. Maple does not stand in one place, so keep walking from screen to screen until her music starts.

Rafton’s Sea Ukulele and the Broken Sword (past)

Give the Magic Oar to Rafton

Go to Rafton’s house on the waterfront in Lynna Village, in the past. He wants to enter a raft race but cannot find a decent oar. Answer Yes to the Magic Oar. He says it looks like a toy but he likes it, and he hands over the Sea Ukulele, the eleventh item.

Cross the pits to the old Zora

In the past, start by the Maku Sprout and walk east, then south to a field of bottomless pits. Cross them with the Switch Hook (the diamonds and statues give you something to swap with). A cave to the south holds an old man in a blue cap with a bed. Give him the Sea Ukulele. He says it carries the sea’s spirit and was a gift from a great hero to his ancestors, then hands you the Broken Sword, the twelfth and last item before the reward.

To Restoration Wall: Symmetry City and Talus Peaks

Warp to Symmetry City and the past

Use Gale Seeds and Time Portals to reach Symmetry City quickly. Play the Tune of Echoes at the portal in the Deku Forest, warp with a Gale Seed to the Symmetry City tree, then play it again beside the fountain to arrive in Symmetry Village in the past. Continue south into Talus Peaks, still in the past, and fight off what attacks you. The Tune of Currents then carries you from the past to the present at any spot (see Harp of Ages).

Two more races with Maple

Maple turns up twice more while you cross Talus Peaks. The first time you are in the present, on a sandy plateau, and the race pays roughly 25 Rupees. The second comes after you return to the past through the portal at the waterfall, and the Rupees you pick up total about 17. Grab Rupees and hearts first, then the bombs. Nothing is lost if you skip them.

Climb to Patch’s house

Head to the signpost that points up to Restoration Wall. The way ahead is a stretch of thorny vines, which you can climb along the sides. Patch’s house stands in a niche at the top of the wall.

Patch’s ceremony: Noble Sword (past)

Agree to the ceremony

Enter the house. Patch greets you like an old friend and asks what you need. Tell him you want him to fix the Broken Sword. He says you have to take part in his delicate ceremony first. Answer Yes to take part and Yes to hear the rules, then follow him downstairs into the Crazy Cart room.

Push every Hardhat Beetle into the pits

Patch sets the Broken Sword on a green tile at the top of the room, next to a minecart track. Push each Hardhat Beetle into one of the holes at the corners by walking into it. Eight beetles come in total, four at first, then more as you clear them. A minecart rolls along the track and smashes the sword if it hits it, so stand on the switch below the tile when the cart is about to arrive, then go back to the beetles. This is the same ceremony as for the Tuni Nut but with more beetles, so keep an eye on the cart (see Minigames).

Take the Noble Sword

When the last beetle is gone, Patch calls himself perfect and hands you the sword, which is now the Noble Sword (Sword L-2). Your sword icon changes to L-2 at once and hits harder. If you already carried the Noble Sword when you gave him the Broken Sword (possible in a Linked Game, after the Clock Shop Secret), he gives you the Master Sword instead (see Equipment upgrades).

After Patch: next planting spot

Leave through the portal and plant another Gasha Seed

Leave Patch’s house and cross back through the highlands. Warp by Gale Seed to the Deku Forest tree, then use a Time Portal in the past and play the Tune of Echoes. You arrive in the present on a grassy ledge beside a pond, where soft soil is ready for a Gasha Seed. Choose Plant, then return to the past through the portal. The next goal is the ridge north of Nayru’s House, which holds Crown Dungeon.
