This chapter takes you from the Moonlit Grotto to the edge of Symmetry City. You ride Dimitri home from Crescent Island, upgrade your Seed Satchel with Tingle, run errands in Lynna, rescue Zelda from the Black Tower, then win Dimitri’s Flute and use him to bring the bridge workers back. Cross the finished bridge and pick up Gale Seeds.

Crescent Island shore and Tingle’s cliff (present)

Ride Dimitri off Crescent Island

Leave the Moonlit Grotto and walk the beach of Crescent Island in the present. Two Tokay are standing over a red creature washed up on the sand and ask whether you will trade their “fish” for your Ember Seeds. Answer No way, then shoot a couple of Ember Seeds at them, and they scatter.

The red creature is Dimitri, the dodongo you befriended in Holodrum, and he offers you a ride. Climb on and he carries you across the water; press A to make him bite, and he can swim up waterfalls. He sets you down on a sand cliff and tells you to go on alone. In other save files this companion is Ricky or Moosh instead, and the Linked Game decides which one you get.

Climb to Tingle

Walk up the stairs over the sandy cliffs and go through the cave on the way. Equip the Seed Shooter and shoot the crystal in the cave to change the blocks, then climb the stairs at the top. Tingle’s red balloon floats on the cliff-top just outside.

Seed Satchel upgrade to 99

Talk to Tingle. He remarks on all the Mystical Seeds you have gathered and offers to make your satchel bigger, so answer Yes and let him work his magic. The Seed Satchel now holds 99 of each seed, up from 50, and your Ember, Scent and Pegasus counts jump to 99. In a game that is not linked, Tingle stops at 50 seeds; 99 is the Tingle Secret reward.

Tingle then recites a short phrase he calls his magic words. In a Linked Game this is a secret you can take to Farore in Oracle of Seasons, so note it from your own save file. Re-equip Roc’s Feather on A and hop the black pits on the cliff to head back toward town.

Lynna Village and Lynna City errands (present)

Maple’s first race

On the meadow outside Lynna Village, Maple the witch flies in and the music changes. She drops hearts, bombs and rupees across the screen, so run and grab as many as you can before she does. This first race adds a few Rupees to your wallet. She turns up again every so often (see Maple).

Wooden Shield from the shop

Enter the blue-roofed shop in Lynna Village. It sells Bombs for 20 Rupees, a Wooden Shield for 30 Rupees and a Heart for 10 Rupees. In this Linked Game Impa has already given you a shield, so buy one here only as a spare, or in an unlinked save where you have none. A Deku Scrub in the Western Woods sells the same shield more cheaply.

Vasu: appraise four rings

Visit Vasu Jewelers, the green-roofed building by the shop, and choose Appraise. Each ring costs 20 Rupees to identify. Your four unappraised rings turn out to be the Like Like Ring, the GBA Time Ring, the Peace Ring (held bombs never explode) and the Heart Ring L-1 (slowly recovers lost hearts). You already own all four, so Vasu offers to buy each duplicate for 30 Rupees, and you come out slightly ahead. Rings only work when worn (see Magic Rings).

Talk to the Maku Tree

Walk to the Maku Tree and talk to it. It repeats that the Black Tower in the past is nearing completion and that an Essence echoes from the peaks northwest of Lynna City. That is your next goal.

Impa, the Black Tower and Zelda (present, Linked Game)

Impa at the bridge

In a Linked Game, Princess Zelda arrives in Labrynna at this point. Cross the town to the bridge over the river, where Impa waits with a blue bird. She says a red monster appeared and carried Zelda off toward the tower, and she begs you to find a way to rescue her.

50 Rupees across the pits

Before the tower, take the path through the forest north of Lynna Village and fight the Moblins and Octoroks there. Equip Roc’s Feather and hop along the line of black pits to the chest at its far end. It holds 50 Rupees.

Doggie Mask and Dumbbell

Leave Lynna City to the west and go north instead of into Fairies’ Woods. Enter the house of the hungry man and give him the Tasty Meat from your trading sequence, and he hands over the Doggie Mask. Take the mask to the southern house in Lynna City, where a man proud of his dog wants it, and he trades you the Dumbbell. See the trading sequence for the full chain.

Climb the Black Tower to save Zelda

Walk through the grey rooftops of Lynna City to the Black Tower ruins. Vire, a winged red monster, floats above you and says you must climb the tower if you want the princess back. The climb plays like an arcade tower: ladders lead up through narrow ledges, so use Roc’s Feather over gaps and avoid the swirling flames and fire orbs, which cost you hearts if they touch you.

At the top you reach Zelda, who thanks you and gives you a ring marked only as unappraised. Wikibooks and Zelda Wiki name the reward for this rescue as the Blue Joy Ring (beasts drop double hearts), which you can check at Vasu’s next time you pass. Zelda then suggests going outside.

Zelda’s warning

Back at the bridge, Zelda explains that despair is withering the world and that the Triforce on your hand is its hope. She warns that Veran and Twinrova must be stopped and says she will hide in Nayru’s House. She and Impa both send you to the northwest, where the Essence waits.

Nuun Highlands: the bridge foreman (present)

Find the broken bridge

Follow the river northwest of Lynna City. The road to Symmetry City runs through the Nuun Highlands, a country of rivers and waterfalls with new enemies: Buzz Blobs, which a sword cannot hurt, and River Zoras, which spit fireballs. Keep going until you reach a pier where a bridge is only half built.

The foreman, Mutoh, complains that his three workers have wandered off. He asks you to find them, but the terrain is too rough on foot, because the highlands are a set of waterways you can only cross with an animal companion. That is why you need a flute.

Second Maple race

Maple flies in again on the meadow by the river. Grab her dropped items before she does to win a few more Rupees.

Fairies’ Woods and Dimitri’s Flute (present)

Help the fairy children

Go back south to the meadows. Fairy children ask you to help them find an animal that wandered into their woods, and they point toward the forest entrance south of there. Head to Fairies’ Woods.

The Fairy Queen’s secret

Visit the Fairy Queen in her clearing in the woods. In a Linked Game she asks you to pass a secret to the Great Fairy behind the falls in the sunken Temple of Seasons in Holodrum, then recites it. Answer Yes, note the secret as it appears on your own save file, and tell it to the Great Fairy in Oracle of Seasons.

Find Dimitri

Search the bush ring in the woods and keep moving between the two screens until the children say you have found the animal. They lead you out to the forest edge, where Dimitri is waiting. He thanks you for helping him out of the woods.

Dimitri gives you Dimitri’s Flute and promises to come whenever you play it. Equip the flute on a button and use it beside a river bank to call him. The flute depends on your companion: Ricky’s Flute is a prize in the Lynna shooting gallery (50 points), and Moosh joins you if you reach the Nuun Highlands before getting any flute.

Nuun Highlands: waterways, Great Fairy and workers (present)

Great Fairy fountain

Ride Dimitri along the rivers of the Nuun Highlands, swimming up waterfalls as you go. At the northern edge of the highlands is a cave with a Great Fairy. She restores all of your hearts for free whenever you visit.

Light Ring L-1 in the southeast cave

Ride to the southeast of the highlands and go up the waterfall into a hidden cave. The chest on the sand ledge holds an unappraised ring. Wikibooks and Zelda Wiki place the Light Ring L-1 in the Nuun Highlands (sword beams, a few hearts weaker), so appraise it at Vasu’s to confirm.

Three missing workers

Return to the foreman’s pier and agree to find the three workers. Ride up the waterways and talk to each worker: one is roughly in the middle of the highlands, one is in the north near the Great Fairy cave, and one is in the southeast near the ring cave. Each says he would like to hang out longer, then heads back when you speak to him.

Go back to the foreman. He is delighted that his workers have returned and tells them to work with no more breaks, and they finish the bridge.

Soft soil beside the Great Fairy cave

Ride Dimitri up the waterfall to the northern edge once more and heal at the Great Fairy cave if needed. Drop down from the high ledge in the northwest and dig with the Shovel to find a patch of soft soil, then plant a Gasha Seed in it. This is one of the better Gasha spots, and the tree can yield a Piece of Heart (see Gasha Seeds).

Symmetry City and the Gale Seed tree (present)

Cross the new bridge

Cross the finished bridge and climb the stairs north. A sign points to Symmetry City. Dimitri says it is far too hot for him and sends you on alone.

Maple’s third race and the Gale Seeds

The present-day Symmetry City is a scorched orange plateau of lava rock, with a fountain in the middle. Maple arrives here too, so collect the items she drops for roughly 15 more Rupees.

Go left to the Gale Seed tree in a small grassy square and take 18 Gale Seeds. Open the Seed Satchel to use them: a Gale Seed lets you warp to a place you choose. The next chapter continues in Symmetry City.
