This chapter finishes the ring collection, takes you through the last steps before the final dungeon, and ends with the defeat of Veran. You appraise the rings you have been carrying, collect the Huge Maku Seed from the Maku Tree once you hold all eight Essences of Time, climb the Black Tower in the past and fight Veran in her three forms. In a Linked Game, the battle is followed by the Room of Rites.

Final ring appraisals at Vasu’s

Appraise the rings you are holding

Return to Vasu’s shop in the present and appraise each unidentified ring in your inventory. Duplicates sell back for 30 Rupees, so you can clear space and rupees as you go. The Armor Ring L-3 is the one ring you should keep: it lowers damage taken and sword damage by three quarters and is the reward from the linked Hero’s Cave.

The Blue Luck Ring halves damage from beams and the Swimmer’s Ring increases your swimming speed. Both were duplicates here and went to Vasu. When every ring is appraised, Vasu tells you that all your rings are appraised, and you can list them into your Ring Box or equip them from the inventory.

Maku Tree and the Huge Maku Seed

Bring all eight Essences to the Maku Tree

Head to the Maku Tree’s grove in the present once the eight Essences of Time are in your collection. The Maku Tree notices that you have gathered all eight, then gives you the Huge Maku Seed, the item needed to enter the Black Tower in the past. Without it, the tower’s barrier does not give way, so do not enter the tower before this step.

Before she hands over the seed, the Maku Tree asks you to cast down Veran. Once you have it, the remaining present-day errands can wait until after the Black Tower.

Ring chest and the Diver Secret

Open the ring chest on the palm coast

On the sand near the palm island on the Labrynna coast, find a chest that holds a ring. Opening it gives you an unidentified ring, and you take it to Vasu to appraise like the others. Appraise it before you sell any duplicates, because only the appraisal tells you whether you already own that ring.

Hear the Diver Secret on the coast

Stay on the same coast and speak with the diver near the palm island. He is the senior pupil of the Master Diver and asks you to carry a secret back to his master in Holodrum’s Sunken City. You receive the Diver Secret here, and the reward is handed out only after you tell it to the Master Diver in the linked Seasons game, so keep the password in mind for later.

Hall of Secrets: enter a secret

Enter the secret at the Oracle of Secrets

Go to the Hall of Secrets in Lynna City, the room with the green Oracle of Secrets, and read the book there to choose a secret to enter. Choose the secret on the list you have been given, then type its password on the entry screen. Once the Oracle accepts it, a short transition follows, and the Oracle thanks you for coming back.

Ambi’s tower and the Ralph cutscene

Climb to Queen Ambi’s room

Cross the canal bridge near the statue pond in Lynna City and go into Ambi’s tower. Climb the stairs to the top room, where Ralph, Nayru and Queen Ambi are waiting. Queen Ambi has been possessed by Veran, and Ralph explains that Ambi is his ancestor. Read the scene through, because the next steps depend on what Ralph and Nayru tell you about Veran’s plan.

Black Tower (past)

Enter the Black Tower and clear the lower floors

Travel to the past through the Tune of Echoes time portal and walk to the Black Tower. A man at the entrance tells you about the tower’s origin and steps aside. Enter the ground floor, where you fight enemies in single-type rooms, including green Zols, blue Octoroks, Ropes and blue Tektites. Climb the stairs to the next floor, where Shrouded Stalfos, Beamos, Gibdos, Like Likes and red Darknuts guard the way up.

The floor above has red and blue Darknuts and green and red Wizzrobes. On the ground floor, skip the north corner with the Ropes, since that route is a dead end.

Take the stairs maze to the Owl Statue

The stair maze is on two floors. Enter from the left, take the stairs down toward the centre of the room rather than along the wall, and keep climbing and descending through the centre. Stay near the middle of the room, as the wall stairs lead back to the start. The route ends at an Owl Statue, which gives you the hint for the next puzzle. Go back one staircase and leave through the middle exit.

In the next room, follow the flame that appears behind Link, as the Owl Statue suggested. Cross the terrace to reach the final room of the climb.

Use the Huge Maku Seed and the Essences of Time

Before you climb higher, the Essences of Time you have collected gather around Link in the top room of the tower. The barrier that blocks the upper floors gives way when you hold the Huge Maku Seed and all eight Essences together.

As you climb, Twinrova appears in the sisters’ Dark Rites cutscene and speaks of the Flame of Sorrow being lit. Their words move the story on, and you then return to the Black Tower to face Veran.

Boss: Veran

Phase 1: free Queen Ambi from Veran

Enter the boss room, a green floor with columns and a staircase. Veran is in the body of Queen Ambi and she warns you that defeating her would erase your own ancestry. Ignore the warning and fight. Shoot Mystery Seeds at Queen Ambi with your Seed Shooter to force Veran out of the body.

Once Veran is exposed, pull her away from Ambi with the Long Hook, then hit her with the sword while she is out of the body. Ambi is faster than Nayru was in the earlier fight, and she fires more fireballs and sends spiders. Stay mobile and return to the seed shot each time she recovers.

After Ambi’s body is spent, Veran takes her shadow form. In this form she summons four Dark Links, which copy Link’s movements from the opposite side of the room. Lure them into a corner, then attack them from the middle so that they close in together. Avoid Veran’s blue orbs and spiral orbs, and collect the recovery hearts that small enemies drop.

Veran then appears as a green fairy. Strike her when she comes close to you. Her attacks are fast, so keep your hearts above a safe number and stay out of the corners.

Phase 3: the insect forms

Veran’s last form is a monstrous insect that changes shape. Start in the beetle form, dodge her crushing jumps, and strike her face when it is exposed. In the spider form, avoid her webs and charges and throw bombs at her to reveal her face, then slash at it. Bombchus do not work for this. In the bee form, strike her when she flies close, or use the Seed Shooter from a distance while you stand between her stinger paths.

Keep your hearts topped up through the three forms. Veran’s final spider form is the hardest part of the fight, and the best approach is to keep your distance, time each bomb, and attack only when her face is open. The fight ends when Veran is defeated, and Ralph, Nayru and Queen Ambi are free.

After Veran

Once Veran falls, climb to the top of the tower and walk to Ralph and Nayru, who are waiting there. Leave the tower and head toward the Rolling Ridge area outside, where Ralph and a hooded figure talk with Link. In a Linked Game, the Black Tower battle leads on to the Room of Rites.

In a Linked Game, the battle ends the story in the past, and the present sends you on toward the Room of Rites. In a single game, the credits show the Secret to Holodrum, which you need to start a Linked Game of Oracle of Seasons.
