With the Wing Dungeon cleared, the Maku Tree points you to Crescent Island, but you cannot sail until you own a rope for the raft. This chapter collects a Heart Piece west of Lynna Village, learns what Cheval and Rafton need, runs a round of Linked Game secrets through Farore’s Hall of Secrets, then finishes in Cheval’s Grave in Yoll Graveyard with Zora’s Flippers and Cheval Rope. The short route is: Heart Piece cave, Cheval’s house, the Pirate Secret, Plen’s secret, Farore, the Great Fairy, Vasu’s snakes, then Moosh and the grave.

West of Lynna Village: Heart Piece and soft soil (the past)
Walk out of the forest
Leave the Wing Dungeon grounds in the past and head west and north through the forest, fighting Octoroks and Ropes. You need the Roc’s Feather and the Power Bracelet here, so keep both ready. Keep going until you reach a rocky patch of ground with a cave entrance.

Piece of Heart 5 of 12
Go into the cave. A floating Heart Piece sits across a room of pits, with a few pillars and stone platforms to hop between. Use the Roc’s Feather to jump the gaps, and take care, because some of the darker floor tiles can crumble. Take the piece: it is the first of the next four, so three more make another heart (see Heart Piece locations). Climb the stairs to leave.

Maple and a soft soil spot
The stairs bring you out in a ruined brick courtyard. Maple the witch may crash into you here and scatter your rupees, so hit her and then pick up everything she dropped (see Maple). She turns up at random in both eras and can pay out a Heart Piece.

Switch to the Shovel and dig in the middle of the cross-shaped patch of lighter ground. You uncover soft soil, which grows a Gasha Nut when you plant a Gasha Seed in it (see Gasha Seeds). Plant a seed now or come back later; the Discovery Ring chimes close to such spots.

Lynna Village: Cheval, Rafton and the Advance shop (the past)
Cheval’s house and the news about his tomb
Follow the paths and bridges to the river coast and read the signpost for Cheval’s house. Cheval the inventor explains that he is working on flippers for swimming and a rope that will not rot in water. He gives you nothing yet.

When you step outside, Ralph appears and points you toward Cheval’s tomb in the graveyard of your own time. That tells you where the two inventions are.

Advance shop: two rings for 100 Rupees each
Walk back through Lynna Village to the red-roofed building with the right-hand door. This Advance shop opens only in the Game Boy Advance release, and it sells a Class 3 ring, the GBA Time Ring and a Gasha Seed for 100 Rupees each. Cut the flowers and bushes around the village for rupees until you can afford the two rings; each arrives unappraised. The Gasha Seed costs 100 more. In a Game Boy Color game the door stays locked, so skip this stop.

Rafton’s house
Go to the house across the river on the waterfront. Rafton dreams of building rafts that can cross the sea but lacks a rope that will not decay in water. He is the reason you need Cheval Rope.

Pirate Secret (Linked Game)
Go west along the coast to the far end of Lynna Village’s shore and jump the pits with the Roc’s Feather. A girl there says she forgot to tell a very unlucky man in Holodrum her secret. Say yes and listen to all of it. Farore’s book files it as the Pirate Secret, to be told to the pirate in Seasons. Secrets differ per save file, so note the one you receive.

Back to the present
Stand on the Time Portal pad in Lynna Village and play the Tune of Echoes to travel forward to Lynna City (see Time Portals).

Lynna City: Plen’s secret and Farore’s Hall of Secrets (the present)
Ruul Secret (Linked Game)
Visit Mayor Plen’s house. The woman there recognizes you as the hero who saved Holodrum and asks you to pass a secret to Mayor Ruul in Horon Village. Answer yes and listen to the whole secret. It is the Ruul Secret.

How the Hall of Secrets works (Linked Game)
Enter the Maku Tree and go to Farore’s Hall of Secrets. Farore’s Memory book lists each secret you have been told; it now holds the Deku, Ruul, Graveyard and Pirate secrets. To collect a reward, talk to Farore, answer Yes when she asks whether you know the secret to moving through time, and type the return code a Holodrum character gave you (see Linked Game secrets). Every code is different for each save file, and you know it worked when she says your secrets have called something forth.

Code 1: Bomb capacity
Enter the return code the pirate gave you in Seasons. Your Bomb capacity rises from 10 to 30.

Code 2: Ring Box L-2
Enter the code Mayor Ruul gave you in Seasons. You receive a Ring Box L-2, which holds three rings instead of one.

Great Fairy secret (Linked Game)
Travel to the Fairies’ Woods in the present and find the Great Fairy on the stone circle at the ruins of the Wing Dungeon. She asks you to carry a secret to a Great Fairy in the sunken Temple of Seasons. Say yes, then listen to it. This is the Great Fairy secret.

Code 3: ring chest
Return to Farore and enter the third return code. A red chest rises in the middle of the room, and inside is another unappraised ring.

The Maku Tree’s hint
Speak to the Maku Tree again. She feels an Essence on Crescent Island and warns you that crossing the sea will be dangerous.

Vasu Jewelers: Red Snake and Blue Snake (the present)
Ring Secret at the Red Snake
Walk to Vasu Jewelers. Talk to the Red Snake, ask about ring secrets, and enter the Ring Secret from your Seasons file. He then hands over the rings from that file, which you take to Vasu for appraisal. The same snake can also give you a Ring Secret of your own to carry rings back to Seasons.

Blue Snake
The Blue Snake manages the Game Link cable. With two Game Boy Color systems connected he trades rings and tells your fortune. Without a cable he asks you to check the connection, so you can skip him.

Appraising rings
Appraisal at Vasu’s counter costs 20 Rupees per ring, and a ring does nothing until Vasu names it. By now you carry several unappraised rings, so come back with rupees to appraise them all, and use the item menu to choose which one sits in your Ring Box (see Magic Rings).

Cheval’s Grave in Yoll Graveyard: Zora’s Flippers and Cheval Rope (the present)
Rescue Moosh
Go to Yoll Graveyard in the present and walk to the room where three Ghinis are harassing a blue bear. Shoot Ember Seeds at the ghosts and slash them with the sword until they vanish. The bear thanks you: he is Moosh, an animal companion you can ride from now on in the graveyard (see Animal companions).

Cross the pits with Moosh
Climb onto Moosh and tap A to float him across pits. Cheval’s Grave lies in the north-west corner, and the path to it is broken by pit fields that Link cannot cross alone. Ride Moosh to the end of the path, then use the Power Bracelet to push the tombstone there and open the grave.

Inside the grave
Drop into the sandy cave and defeat the enemies. A sign says Cheval will entrust his invention only to someone with both might and light feet. Use the Power Bracelet to pull the lever as far as it goes, then jump over the water with the Roc’s Feather and take the stairs up to the chest.

Zora’s Flippers
Open the chest for Zora’s Flippers. Press A to swim and B to dive, and you swim automatically whenever you step into deep water.

Cheval Rope
Swim north and along the northern side of the cave, steering around the rocks, until you reach stairs on a small beach. Climb them and take Cheval Rope, a sturdy rope that will not rot when wet. Swim back to the entrance when you are ready to leave.

What the Flippers open up
With the Flippers you can reach Syrup’s Potion Shop in Yoll Graveyard, which sells a Gasha Seed and a Magic Potion for 300 Rupees each. Carry the Cheval Rope to Rafton in Lynna Village (the past) for the raft you need to sail to Crescent Island.
