Most of Link’s gear improves through the Labrynna storyline, and the strongest versions need a Linked Game with Oracle of Seasons. The sword and shield each have three levels, the bomb capacity and seed satchel each have three sizes, and the Ring Box has three sizes. Every upgrade below lists where it comes from and whether it needs a Linked Game.
Swords
| Icon | Sword | Level | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Sword | L-1 | Impa gives it to you in the Forest of Time at the start of the game. | |
| Noble Sword | L-2 | Finish the trading sequence with the Broken Sword. Patch repairs it and you get the Noble Sword, with a golden hilt. See Lynna trades and the Noble Sword. | |
| Master Sword | L-3 | Linked Game only. Enter the Clock Shop secret code from the old man below the Clock Shop in Farore’s Hall of Secrets. You must already hold the Noble Sword: with the Wooden Sword, the same code gives the Noble Sword instead. See Ambi’s Palace and the Tune of Ages. | |
| (separate item) | Biggoron’s Sword | Two-handed | Linked Game only. Enter the Biggoron code from Biggoron on Mt. Cucco, and Farore’s chest holds the sword. It goes into your item menu as its own item, so your Master Sword stays on the sword button. See Ambi’s Palace and the Tune of Ages. |
Shields
| Icon | Shield | Level | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Shield | L-1 | In a Linked Game, Impa gives it to you in the Forest of Time. Otherwise, a Deku Scrub along the Deku Forest path sells one for 10 Rupees, after the price drops from 50. See Deku Forest and the Mystery Seeds. | |
| Iron Shield | L-2 | Linked Game only. Enter the code from the Subrosian smith in Farore’s Hall of Secrets. Your Wooden Shield becomes the Iron Shield, and no chest appears. | |
| Mirror Shield | L-3 | Linked Game only, and you need the Iron Shield first. A Tokay in the cave on the south-west of Crescent Island gives you the Mirror Shield. See Ambi’s Palace and the Tune of Ages. |
Bomb capacity
10 to 30 bombs
In an unlinked game, throw a bomb into the pond at the top of the vine on Talus Peaks in the present. Stand between the two statues and a fairy appears. Answer that the bomb was a regular one, and she gives you a capacity of 30. A linked game gets this upgrade from Farore’s code for the Pirate secret instead. See Symmetry City and Talus Peaks.

30 to 50 bombs
Return to the same fairy pond on Talus Peaks in the present. After the bomb capacity is 30, the same answer raises it to 50. The Zelda Wiki also lists a Wild Tokay Museum secret as a route to 50 in a linked game. See Farore’s Secrets and Cheval’s Grave for the Pirate code.

Seed Satchel
20 to 50 seeds
Talk to Tingle again after he gives you the Island Chart on Crescent Island. He enlarges the satchel to 50 seeds of each type. Without Ricky as your companion, you need the Seed Shooter to reach him a second time. See Nuun Highlands and the Strange Flutes.

50 to 99 seeds
Linked Game only. Enter the Deku Secret from the singing Deku Scrub in the south-west of Deku Forest, in the past, in Farore’s Hall of Secrets. The satchel reaches its maximum of 99 seeds of each type. See Mystical Seeds for the seed types.

Ring Box
| Icon | Ring Box | Holds | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| L-1 Ring Box | 1 ring | Vasu gives it to you at his jewelry shop in Lynna City, in the present, at the start of the game. | |
| – | L-2 Ring Box | 3 rings | Buy it from the hidden shop in Lynna City, for 300 Rupees. In a Linked Game, Mayor Ruul’s secret, entered in Farore’s Hall of Secrets, gives it too. See Lynna City Secret Shop. |
| L-3 Ring Box | 5 rings | Linked Game only. A password from Symmetry City, given as a Linking Secret, upgrades the box to its largest size. See Magical Rings. |
Power and movement
Power Bracelet to Power Glove
The Power Glove is found in the Ancient Tomb, Level 8, near the start of the dungeon, and you use it on the blue statue that blocks a chest. It lifts heavier blue statues and blocks than the Power Bracelet, and you need it to beat Ramrock. See Ancient Tomb.

Switch Hook to Long Hook
The Switch Hook is the Skull Dungeon treasure, and its upgrade is the Long Hook. Open the chest in the lilac room with gold rails in Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, Level 7. The Long Hook reaches farther and pulls you across longer gaps than the Switch Hook. See Jabu-Jabu’s Belly.

Roc’s Feather
The Roc’s Feather is the Wing Dungeon treasure, Level 2. The feather lets you jump one tile over pits and low obstacles, and a Pegasus Seed adds distance to the jump. See Wing Dungeon.
