Calamity Strikes is the first battle of Chapter 5. Calamity Ganon wakes and turns the castle’s Guardians against you, so you fight through the halls to reach King Rhoam’s sanctum, escape by the hidden passage and finish the White-Maned Lynel guarding the way out. Clearing it opens both Water and Fire and Air and Lightning.

Before you start

The recommended level is 38, so arrive close to that or the Guardians will hit hard. You control Link, and Impa and Zelda come along, so give Link your best weapon. Carry a heart-restoring meal and keep Remote Bombs charged, because they break Guardian and Lynel attacks and open a cracked wall that hides a Korok Seed.

Hyrule Castle approach and the Sanctum

Head for the Sanctum

Run toward the Sanctum, cutting down the Black Moblins and Bokoblins in the way. The objective is to rescue King Rhoam. Capture the first outpost on the road and check the garden path beyond it for a Korok Seed before moving on. Partway there Zelda warns that Calamity Ganon has taken control of the Guardians, and a Guardian takes the lead against you.

Guardian

Sanctum Guardians

At the Sanctum a Guardian is attacking a Hylian Captain, who fights alongside you. Defeat it, ideally with Weak-Point Smashes on its eye, and more Guardians arrive. Destroy them all, then ask the Captain where the king is. He says his men were cut off from the others in the chaos, and Zelda decides to cut out the back, which changes the objective to escape through the Hidden Passage.

Hidden Passage and castle escape

Library and great hall

Follow Zelda’s route through the library and great hall toward the main gates, and head for the escape point as the objective changes. Guardians awaken along the way, and a banner announces each new one. Each one must be destroyed before you can advance, so keep Impa and Zelda close.

Guardian Scout I

Later in the corridors you meet Guardian Scout I. Circle it, dodge when it charges its beam, and break its weak point to bring it down. Keep your Special Attack on A for when a wave of Moblins joins in.

Ice Wizzrobe

Ice Wizzrobe and Fire Moblin

An Ice Wizzrobe waits in one of the rooms, so rush it before it can fire again. Further down you must fight a Fire Moblin as well. Both are quick fights if you attack their weak points, and they are the last obstacles before the Lynel hall.

Link faces the White-Maned Lynel as the Dodge and Guard button prompts appear on screen

White-Maned Lynel boss fight

The White-Maned Lynel fights like a regular Lynel but adds lightning to its attacks. Dodge out of its charge, use a Remote Bomb on its fireball breath and Cryonis against its charge, and use a Flurry Rush after a well-timed dodge. Hit its weak point to stagger it, then spend a Special Attack.

Link summons ice crystals in the castle hall during the White-Maned Lynel fight

When the Lynel falls, a crowd of monsters appears in the castle. Ignore them and sprint for the escape point at the exit to end the battle.

Korok Seeds

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 1: grass on the garden path

On the way to the Sanctum, look for a Korok on the grass just off the garden path.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 2: rubble in the throne room

After the Guardian fight in the throne room, look among the broken wood and rubble for a Korok.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 3: throne room crate

Smash the crate in the same throne room area to reveal the next Korok.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 4: library crate

On the top level of the library, near the south exit, break the crate to find a Korok.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 5: north of the dining room

Go north of the dining room to a dead-end room where a Korok sits.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 6: bombable wall in the dark corridor

On the escape run through the dark stone corridor, blow open the cracked wall with a Remote Bomb. A Korok rises from the floor under the banner.

Korok Seed

Korok Seed 7: side room before the Lynel fight

Just before the White-Maned Lynel fight, a side room beside the red-carpet hall has a lit brazier. A Korok pops out of the floor to its left, so investigate the glowing spot before you enter the hall.
