Road to the Ancient Lab is the second and last battle of Chapter 1. You escort Zelda through the Breach of Demise while a Guardian corrupted by Malice hunts the party. You can’t beat it head on, so you flee, wake two Unearthed Guardians to weaken it, lure it into their line of fire and destroy it. Zelda joins your roster as a playable Warrior along the way.

Table of Contents
Before you start
The recommended level is 3, and you start with Link and Impa. Zelda joins as a playable Warrior partway through. If any of the three flees, you lose, so watch the health of your allies as well as your own. Doing the Mastering Remote Bombs challenge beforehand is optional, but it is a good way to practise runes before you meet the Guardian.

Escort Zelda to the marked position
Clear the first enemies
Stay near Zelda and clear the Bokoblins, Moblins and Lizalfos on the road ahead, since she waits until nearby enemies are dealt with. Once the Sheikah Slate has given you new runes (see the next step), defeat the Ice Wizzrobe you meet to claim an Ice Rod from it. When you reach the outpost on the route, capture it, otherwise Zelda won’t advance.

Gain Magnesis and Stasis
Early on the road, before the Ice Wizzrobe, the Sheikah Slate responds again and gives you Magnesis and Stasis. Hold R and press B to use Magnesis, which pulls on metal objects, and you will need it against the outpost’s powerful enemy. Stasis is R and X. When a rune prompt appears during an attack, use it with good timing to counter.

Escape the corrupted Guardian
Once you reach the destination, the Guardian smashes through a wooden barricade and starts chasing you. Your attacks do little to it yet, and Zelda warns against fighting it, so run for the marked position. Zelda stops whenever Bokoblins block her path, so sprint ahead and clear them quickly.

Hylian Captains keep the Guardian busy, but it returns to the chase if you linger, so don’t stop to fight stragglers for long. The party soon hits a dead end, and a blast of blue light from the little Guardian that follows Zelda saves them while the enemy Guardian is still in pursuit.

Activate the Unearthed Guardians
Both Unearthed Guardians must be activated, and Link, Impa or Zelda can do it by pressing Y beside them. Take the south-east one first because it is the quicker trip. Go south from the outpost, then east at the junction, watching for Bokoblins that blow horns and charge, and for ones that throw weapons.

Near the large outpost area, head north toward the marked spot. An Electric Wizzrobe attacks here, so defeat it first. A Moblin appears when you enter the outpost; beat it, capture the outpost and press Y at the Unearthed Guardian on the wooden platforms. After this first activation Zelda becomes playable, so you can switch to her.

Jump off the cliff north of that Guardian for a shortcut back toward the centre. The second Unearthed Guardian is in the northwest, and you have plenty of time, so send Impa or whichever Warrior is closest. Follow the linear path north-west, capture the outpost you reach and activate the Unearthed Guardian on its wooden platform.

Lure the Guardian into range
With both Unearthed Guardians live, the enemy Guardian must be drawn into their firing range at the marked spot. Jump off the nearby cliff for a shortcut and approach it from the south. It will likely fire its laser at you, so dodge, and once it has locked on, run north to the marker.

If the Guardian ignores you, land a few hits to draw its attention. When it reaches the marker, a scene plays and the lasers wreck its armour.

Guardian boss fight
The Guardian can fire a charged laser, swipe with its metal arms at close range, and leap into a ground pound that hits everything around it. Link can parry the laser by holding ZL and pressing Y, but Zelda and Impa can’t, so keep them away from the beam.

Its Weak-Point Gauge appears after the ground pound. Use your strongest attacks then, plus any elemental rods you hold, to drain the gauge, and finish it with a Weak-Point Smash on X. Defeating it ends the battle and the party reaches the Royal Ancient Lab.

You can defeat the Guardian without activating the Unearthed Guardians, but it is much harder, and killing it early skips the later chests on the route.

Breach of Demise Korok Seeds
There are six Korok Seeds on this map. Press Y at each spot to reveal the Korok. They are spread across the route, so detour a little while the Guardian is occupied.

Flower beside the path before Zelda
While you escort Zelda down the road, a flower grows in the grass beside the path. Interact with it to find the Korok.

Stump by the broken barricade
Beside the planks of the broken barricade, press Y at the stump on the edge of the path.

Flower by the lake ledge
Beside the lake, on the grass by the rock ledge, interact with the flower to reveal the Korok.

Hill by the wooden watchtower
Walk up the grassy hill past the wooden watchtower and find the Korok standing in the tall grass among the flowers.

Pinwheel beside the sandy platform
On the cracked ground beside the sandy platform, interact with the green pinwheel to reveal the Korok.

Wooden walkway to the Unearthed Guardian
Cross the wooden walkway toward the Unearthed Guardian. The Korok stands on the planks near the end; interact with it.
