UnlocksRoyal Broadsword, Royal Claymore, Gear of the Protector and a Guardian Claw; three Memory Quest rewards; EX The Yiga Clan’s Retreat

EX The Princess and the King follows Zelda and Link after their escape from Hyrule Castle, as they try to meet the Hylian soldiers on Lanayru Road while King Rhoam plans the retreat. You ride to the rendezvous, revive a fallen Captain, capture two outposts, block the monsters’ path, and escape the battlefield after defeating a Malice Guardian and a Malice Moblin.

Before you start

The recommended level is 53. Your group is Zelda, Link, Impa and King Rhoam; you start on Zelda’s Master Cycle and can switch to the others as you fight. Bring strong fused weapons for Link and Rhoam and a meal that boosts attack, since Silver Moblins and Wizzrobes appear in numbers.

All three Memory Quests depend on keeping allies alive and thinning out Wizzrobes, so read the Memory Quests section before you start. The Captains retreat when their health runs low, so cover them from the first fight.

Ride to the rendezvous

Impa leads the way to the rendezvous point on Lanayru Road. Ride Zelda’s Master Cycle toward the marker with the Hylian soldiers. The objective reads Head for the Targeted Position, so there is no need to fight every enemy on the road.

Silver Moblin and the fallen Captain

A Silver Moblin attacks as you reach the soldiers, and a Hylian Captain falls. The objective changes to Revive the Hylian Captain. Defeat the Silver Moblin, then reach the Captain quickly to revive them. Later the objective becomes Aid the Hylian Captains, counted 0/2, and the game tells you to rescue them.

King Rhoam tells you to retreat while recovering as many allies as you can. Impa scouts ahead and asks you to protect the area, so stay near the Captains until the field is clear.

Capture the outposts

The next objective is Capture the Outposts, and it counts to 2. Fight your way to the first outpost, defeating the Thunder Wizzrobe that guards the road. Its lightning hits a wide area, so run in, break its weak-point gauge and finish with a Weak-Point Smash.

The second outpost sits across a waterfall bridge. More monsters arrive from behind as you cross, and an Electric Moblin and a Silver Moblin attack at the bridge. Capture the outpost to complete the objective.

Return for your allies

A Silver Moblin appears and the group is split, so Zelda insists on going back to help. A Fire Moblin, then more Silver Moblins, attack the Captains, and the objective reads Defeat the Silver Moblins. Switch to a warrior near them, break the Fire Moblin’s weak-point gauge and finish it with a Weak-Point Smash.

The Captains beg Zelda to flee, but the group chooses to stay. The objective becomes Head to the Targeted Positions alongside your allies, so escort the Captains forward and defeat the Electric and Fire Moblins that block the road.

Block the monsters’ path

When the monsters near you are gone, Zelda says now is the chance to block the way. The Memory Quest of the same name is marked complete while the last Moblins are still fighting around you, so you do not have to wait for the battle to end.

Escape the battlefield

With most enemies down, the next objective is to escape the battlefield with your allies. Keep the Captains close and defeat the remaining groups on the way. Messages tell you when King Rhoam and his allies, and later Zelda and hers, reach the Targeted Position.

Malice Guardian and Malice Moblin boss fights

King Rhoam senses a malevolence ahead and says you must stop it to advance. A Malice Guardian appears first, and the objective reads Defeat the Malice Guardian. Keep moving, stay out of its line of fire and attack its weak-point gauge with Link or Rhoam. When the gauge opens, finish with a Weak-Point Smash.

The final objective reads Defeat the Malice Guardian and the Malice Moblin, so a Malice Moblin follows, armoured in gold. Dodge its heavy swings, hit it as it recovers and break its gauge for a Weak-Point Smash. When it falls, Rhoam calls everyone to the Great Plateau and the battle ends.

Memory Quests

Don’t let any Hylian Captains flee. Captains retreat when they take too much damage, and each one that leaves fails the quest. Use the Battle Log to spot weak Captains and clear enemies away from them. The reward is a Report: Hidden Battles, 20 Ironshell Crab and 20 Rugged Rhino Beetle.

Defeat the strong Wizzrobes. You must beat each of the strong Wizzrobes, including those not marked as key enemies; the game counts them. Watch for them on the map and defeat them as you pass. The pause menu counts them out of 4, and it reads 3 of 4 until the last one falls. The reward is a Report: Hidden Battles, 5 Guardian Claw, 5 High-Yield Ancient Furnace and 1,000 Rupees.

Block the monsters’ path. This shows as three question marks at first. It completes in the middle of the battle, once the Fire and Electric Moblins near you are defeated and Zelda calls for the way to be blocked. The reward is 3 Reports: Hidden Battles, 20 Ancient Core and 2,000 Rupees.

The Memory Quest rewards pay out on the results screen. The Royal Broadsword is added to Link’s weapon list and the Royal Claymore to King Rhoam’s. Clearing this battle helps open EX The Yiga Clan’s Retreat, which needs several EX battles cleared first. Spend your Reports at the Royal Ancient Lab.
