Threads of Time

Threads of Time

The tab sits between Key Items and Map. The left column lists your quests, the right side shows the selected quest’s name, a few lines of story and the objective, which is marked with a red diamond and names the next place to go in orange, such as “Head to Hyrule Castle.” or “Explore the Fire Temple.” A finished quest shows COMPLETE above its title and keeps its story text, so you can reread how The Great Deku Tree or Link Wakes Up ended.

Whenever a quest starts or advances, a banner in the corner of the screen says New Event or Event Update and shows “Open Threads of Time”. Kaepora Gaebora repeats the advice on the summit of Death Mountain: if you ever lose your way, take a look at Threads of Time.

Quests you have not reached yet appear as ??? lines under their parent, so the list also shows how many steps are still ahead. The main story quests you will see, in order, are Link Wakes Up, The Great Deku Tree, Princess of Hyrule Castle, Three Spiritual Stones, Spiritual Stone of Fire, Spiritual Stone of Water, Awakening the Five Sages, Forest Temple Mysteries, Disaster in Goron City, Disaster in Zora Domain, Creature of Darkness, Missing in the Desert and Light and Darkness. Side quests share the list: Malon’s Friend, Happy Mask Shopkeeper, To the Great Fairy, From a Pocket Egg Comes…, Stir the Scarecrow’s Soul! and Broken Windmill, Dry Well.

Tapestry

Press Y on the Threads of Time tab to See Tapestry. The log is replaced by a woven picture of your progress, which starts with the Great Deku Tree and Hyrule Castle and grows as the story moves on. Press B to go back to the quest text.

Zelda Notes

Zelda Notes lives on the Nintendo Switch app and costs nothing. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. For Ocarina of Time it offers eleven features: Map, Gossip Quests, Hall of Fallen Foes, Today’s Record, My Play Data, Global Play Data, Photo Studio, Threads of Time, amiibo, Play Ocarina and the Ocarina of Time Quiz. The sections below cover the ones that do something new.

Gossip Quests

Each Gossip Quest gives you a picture and a rumor about a place in Hyrule. Find that place in the game, and the app tells you when you are near it. When you stand at the spot, tap the Found! button to finish the quest and collect points. There are 100 Gossip Quests in total, and each one pays 30 or 40 points. For example, the rumor about a giant Goron with three faces points to the giant pot in Goron City, the quest called Revolving Vase.

Sixteen of them, with their points:

Points are spent on music scores for Play Ocarina. Each score costs 300 points. The nine scores on offer are Series Theme, Title Theme, House, Kokiri Forest, Shop, Kakariko Village, Horse Race, Zora Domain and Gerudo Valley.

Play Ocarina

Play Ocarina turns your phone or tablet into a virtual ocarina. Tap the toneholes on the screen to play freely, or load a music score and either follow a guide or let the app play the song for you. Zelda’s Lullaby and Saria’s Song come as Link’s own scores through story progress, and the Gossip Quest scores above are bought with points. You can also write your own scores, save them and share them through QR codes. If you want the songs Link learns in the game, see Ocarina Songs.

Ocarina of Time Quiz

The quiz asks timed multiple-choice questions about the game, with more than 2,000 in the pool. A sample question shows a picture of a house and asks whose it is, with Saria, Fado, Link and Mido as the answers; the right answer is Link. You can play once a day for free. Further tries cost rupees that you move from the game’s shops to the app.

Hall of Fallen Foes

The Hall of Fallen Foes is a dream hall in the game where every monster you beat becomes a statue, and it is also listed among the Zelda Notes features. How to reach it, what the statues show and how rematches work is on the Hall of Fallen Foes page.

Today’s Record

Today’s Record is a summary of what you achieved on a given day, listed in the order it happened. Pictures of your play are captured automatically and sent to the app, where they appear alongside the entries.

My Play Data and Global Play Data

My Play Data collects your own stats. Global Play Data shows the same kind of figures added up across all players.

Photo Studio

Photo Studio is an image editor where you can crop photos and add stamps, then share the result.

amiibo

amiibo supplies

amiibo unlock after you first walk into Hyrule Field as Child Link, right after the Great Deku Tree. Open the item menu, select the amiibo logo, press the right shoulder button to switch scanning on, then hold the figure to the NFC point on your controller. On a Joy-Con 2 the point is on the right stick, and on the Switch 2 Pro Controller it sits at the top center over the Switch logo. Update your system first if the scan does not work.

Any supported Zelda amiibo gives random supplies such as a Recovery Heart, a Bomb, a Deku Stick, a Green Potion, a Deku Nut, a Magic Jar or a Business Scrub Seed. Each individual amiibo works once per day, so scanning several different figures in a day gives several rewards.

Supported figures: Link, Toon Link, Young Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf and Wolf Link from the Super Smash Bros. line; Link (Archer), Link (Rider), Bokoblin, Guardian, Daruk, Revali, Urbosa, Sidon, Riju, Zelda, Tulin and Yunobo from Breath of the Wild; Link, Zelda, Ganondorf and Mineru’s Construct from Tears of the Kingdom; Toon Link and Zelda from The Wind Waker; Zelda and Loftwing and Link from Skyward Sword; and the Link figures for Twilight Princess, Link’s Awakening, Majora’s Mask and Ocarina of Time.

The Young Link and Young Zelda figures are due in 2027. Scanning them unlocks special masks that Link can wear. The masks are decoration and have no effect on play.
