A Fairy’s Thought is a hint left behind by a fairy who found a secret. When you walk near one, Navi flutters to a spot, often on a wall, a rock, a cart or a tree trunk, and a faint purple glow appears. She says “Oooh, a fairy’s thoughts are lingering here! Do you wanna see what they’re about?” and you choose “Yeah, let’s see!” or “Maybe later…”. Choose yes and a few bubbles of text appear in Navi’s voice. Some are only a remark about the place. A few point to a secret, such as the password for a scrub’s shop or a chest you cannot open yet. Nothing drops when you read one.

Hyrule Field as a child

Mossy ruined wall

After Impa leaves for Kakariko, follow the stone path through Hyrule Field toward the mountains. A sparkle leads you to a mossy ruined wall beside a large tree. Navi calls out “Oh! Look!” and explains that when a fairy finds a special secret, it leaves its feelings behind. Read it and the bubbles say “I bet when somebody shakes a tree, and something falls out, they’ll think it’s…” and then “But I put it there! I’m such a sneak…” The big tree beside the wall is the one to shake.

Overturned cart

Keep going along the dirt road past a signpost to an overturned cart. Navi spots another thought: “I know what you’re thinking! You’re the only one here. Just you and some weeds, huh?” followed by “And that’s that!” It is a joke with no clue in it. Both spots are on the way described in Kakariko Village.

Trails as a child

Death Mountain Trail at night

On Death Mountain Trail after dark, Navi stops by a wall and offers a thought. It says that on calm days the leaves on the ground dance about in slow circles, but when a storm kicks up they spin around wildly. It leads to nothing, and the spot is on the route in Death Mountain Summit and Crater.

Zora River cliff path

On the cliff trail past a crumbling arch, Navi stops at a glowing rock face. The thought reads “I bet the twitchy one living in the dirt would be good friends with the skittish one under the rock, if they ever met!” It is about bugs, so keep a bottle handy and watch for soft soil. Carry the Cucco through here as in Zora River and Zora Domain, and see soft soil locations for the patches.

Dungeon thoughts

Forest Temple blue hall

Climb the ladders to the blue hall on 3F of the Forest Temple. Navi says a fairy’s thoughts are lingering. It reads “This room has such a nice and cozy feel. But it’s also a little on the damp side.” and Navi finishes with “And that’s that!”

Ice Cavern corridor

Late in the corridor of the Ice Cavern, Navi picks up a thought and says “Leave it to me! Alrighty…” It reads “I do love my fair share of snow and ice. But it’s unreasonably cold in here!” and then “I’d give anything for a few warm moments in the sun.” Nothing to collect.

Water Temple dark brick room

On 3F of the Water Temple, a dark brick room holds a thought. It says that playing around in the water is fun, but the humidity in here is really something else. It is only a remark, so move on.

Thoughts that lead to Heart Pieces

Hyrule Field riverbank at night

As an adult, play the Sun’s Song to make it night, then walk along the riverbank in Hyrule Field until Navi stops. She offers a thought in three bubbles: “I did it! I finally made a purchase! The password turned out to be ‘Sell somethin’, will ya?’ That was a surprise.”, then “Hard to believe ‘Ya makin’ money?’ and ‘Not too shabby!’ didn’t work…” and finally “That’s what it says!” The fairy is giving you the password of a certain scrub: “Sell somethin’, will ya?” As a child, say it to the scrub in the grotto by the castle moat to buy a Piece of Heart for 100 rupees. See Business Scrubs and Last Heart Pieces and Gold Skulltulas.

Red-rock canyon chest

Ride Epona across Hyrule Field to the red-rock canyon. Navi says “Interested, huh? Let’s get a closer look,” and bubbles appear: “You, in the pointy hat! Yes, I’m talking to YOU! Go ahead and take what’s in this treasure chest before somebody else…” and “That’s right, I went and left the lock undone! I really hope it’s you that gets their hands on the shiny…” You cannot open the chest yet.

Come back as a child. Navi says “Oh! Remember the fairy’s thoughts we read while you were a grown-up? This must be the treasure chest with the lock left undone!” The chest opens and you receive Heart Piece #35. The box says one more completes a container. Check Heart Piece Locations for the rest.
