Shield Surfing

Selmie sends you down a snowy slope on a shield and times how fast you reach the bridge at the bottom. There is a Beginner and an Advanced course; a quick Beginner time opens the Advanced one, and a fast Advanced run earns the Royal Shield (tier set by difficulty scaling). Surfing wears out your shield, so use one you do not mind losing.

How to find it

Selmie’s cabin lies in the Hebra region, northwest of Hebra Tower. Bring cold-resistant gear.

Solution

Learn the technique

Equip a shield, jump, and press the button to hop onto it in mid-air. Steer down the slope while you slide.

Pay and start

Speak to Selmie and pay the 20 rupee fee. Begin with the Beginner course, which ends at the bridge at the bottom of the hill.

Take shortcuts

Opening your paraglider where the slope allows saves time, and cutting corners is the way to reach the best times.

Try the Advanced course

After a fast Beginner run, Selmie offers the Advanced course, where the rewards are decided. The goal is to get past the big bridge and reach the large flags; the quicker you are, the better the shield.

Chests and rewards

  • Fastest Advanced times, around 1:30 to 1:35 depending on the source: Royal Shield (tier set by difficulty scaling)
  • Slower times: progressively lesser shields such as the Knight’s Shield and Soldier’s Shield; the exact thresholds are not agreed between sources
  • Each shield is given only the first time it is earned.
