After Still Missing and two preliminary Lanmola victories, a third, stronger Lanmola appears for Wild Sandstorms. Speak to the soldiers in the Gerudo Palace training room, then enter the remaining sandstorm. Use Bind to pull its exposed tail and topple it, then attack its vulnerable underside. The fight awards a Piece of Heart; report back for the Gold Sash.

How to Start

In Gerudo Town, enter the Gerudo Palace training room, where two soldiers in gold armour stand on a big yellow mat with “Down with the Lanmola!” above them. Talk to them: “Hey, Zelda. Have you heard of a Lanmola?” They explain that Lanmolas are centipede monsters that cause sandstorms, that a new one has appeared, and that they’ve volunteered to exterminate it. “This one has been on a real rampage… Whoever takes it down will be quite the hero.”

The two are competing to see which of them can defeat it first. One swears by the secret Gerudo training passed down by their ancestors, the other by her own special skills. “Anyway. Whoever defeats the Lanmola wins! If you intend to do that, you’ll have to beat me to it!” The Wild Sandstorms banner appears.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Head into the sandstorm

Warp to the Waypoint on the sand just outside Gerudo Town’s wall and head out across the open desert to the Oasis, the green patch with a pond and palm trees where a few Gerudo soldiers stand guard. Keep going past it. Soon the air turns hazy yellow and visibility drops: you’re in the sandstorm.

Step 2: Find the Lanmola

Out on the dunes inside the sandstorm, watch the sand. The Lanmola travels underground, and you can track it by the trail of churned-up sand it leaves; when it is close, rocks burst up out of the ground around you. Summon two or three Darknut echoes (or any strong melee fighters you have) right away so they’re ready when it surfaces.

Step 3: Fight it when it surfaces

Avoid the flying rocks while the Lanmola emerges. Wait until its tail is exposed above the sand, then target that tail with Bind. Your opening comes from pulling the tail, rather than attacking its armored body as it passes.

Step 4: Pin it down with Bind

Bind the exposed tail and pull away until the Lanmola flips onto its back. Attack the vulnerable underside with strong melee echoes or Swordfighter Form while it is toppled. Repeat this cycle until it is defeated.

Step 5: Collect the Piece of Heart

When its health runs out, the Lanmola bursts apart segment by segment and leaves a heart surrounded by a ring of rupees; “Wild Sandstorms: Quest Updated” appears and the sandstorm clears. Gather the rupees and pick up the heart: “You got a piece of heart! Collect four and your maximum number of hearts will increase.” (see Heart Pieces).

Step 6: Report back to the training room

Warp back to Gerudo Town and return to the training room. The soldiers now mutter “Eventually I’ll be ready…” and are still squabbling: one complains her back hurts from swinging around so much, and the other reminds her she was complaining that her arms were tired a minute ago.

Talk to them. “You beat the Lanmola?! You took out THAT Lanmola, all by yourself?! That’s really hard to believe.” Both rush out to see it with their own eyes, then come back deflated: “The sandstorm is gone… She really defeated the Lanmola…” “She beat us to it…”

Then Facette walks in. She tells them they were so busy boasting about defeating the Lanmola that they never set foot outside, and reminds them to mind their words as well as their actions, and to have more confidence in themselves.

Reward

Facette turns to you: “Zelda, you helped us out once more. Please, accept this reward for eliminating the Lanmola.” “You got a gold sash! This useful waistcloth woven with golden thread will protect you from being windblown.” She thanks you again for defeating the Lanmola, and the Side Quest Complete banner appears. The Gold Sash is an accessory with the Windproof effect, so equip it when gusts would otherwise push Zelda around.

Tips

  • Summon your melee echoes before the Lanmola surfaces. It spends most of the fight underground, so having fighters already in place makes every appearance count.
  • Use Bind on the exposed tail and pull to topple the Lanmola. Save your strongest attacks for its vulnerable underside.
  • Don’t leave without the Piece of Heart; it sits in the ring of rupees where the Lanmola fell.
