Foothill Monster Den

Foothill Monster Den is a cave in Eldin Canyon, about 234 map units from Maw of Death Mountain. Caves like this one hide chests and a Bubbulfrog that drops a Bubbul Gem; trade the gems to Koltin in The Hunt for Bubbul Gems!

How to find it

The entrance is at map coordinates 2275, 1520, near Maw of Death Mountain. Look for the cave mouth at that spot; a Blupee or a ring of light often marks them.

Inside the cave

Get past the entrance

The den sits just north of the Maw of Death Mountain, beside Foothill Stable. Soldiers of the Zonai Survey Team guard the entrance, and Penn at the stable asks you to clear it as part of the side adventure For Our Princess!, so start that quest first. Bring bombs and a bow.

Find the hidden cavern

Walk in and keep going until the tunnel slopes downward. On your left is a cracked wall: blow it open with a Bomb Flower or a bomb to reveal a hidden cavern at about (2221, 1532, 161).

Shoot the Bubbulfrog

The Bubbulfrog clings to the wall near the ceiling of the cavern. Hit it with an arrow and pick up the Bubbul Gem it leaves behind. The den is mostly a monster fight; there is no chest to hunt for.

Cave facts

EntranceOne entrance at the end of the road north-west of Foothill Stable, west of Cephla Lake and south of Death Mountain
QuestFor Our Princess! (talk to Penn at Foothill Stable, then to Sango and Drant at the den)
ChestsNone; the loot is the Thick Stick (or Sturdy Thick Stick or Gnarled Thick Stick, depending on your progress) and food lying around
BubbulfrogIn a small chamber behind a cracked wall in the pit before the main chamber
EnemiesThree Bokoblins (one armoured, one with a bow) and a large Blue Moblin
ShrineNone in the den

Sango and Drant will not let you in until you have accepted For Our Princess! from Penn. When you go in with them, your gear is taken away and you fight with a Thick Stick found inside; Sunshrooms, Apples, Stamella Shrooms, Roasted Bird Drumsticks and Seared Steak lie around for healing. For the armoured Bokoblin, pick up the boulders at the back of the northern side with Ultrahand and drop them on it to break its armour, then finish it with the Thick Stick. Clear the den, finish the quest, and get your equipment back.

Come back for the Bubbulfrog afterwards with your bow and bombs. Before the main chamber, look left at the pit and blow the rubble on the wall open with a Bomb Flower or bomb; climb the hole to a small chamber where the Bubbulfrog moves about the walls. Another route is to climb the cliff beside the camp in the middle of the cave (or Ascend up through it) and break the weak rock at the top with a Bomb Flower. There are no Korok seeds here.
