Starts inKorok Forest
RequirementsComplete Trail of the Master Sword (clear the Deku Tree Chasm and speak with the Great Deku Tree); two full green stamina wheels
RewardMaster Sword, the Zelda’s Wish memory

Once the Great Deku Tree is free of gloom, he can sense the Master Sword moving somewhere in Hyrule’s skies and marks its location on your map. The sword is embedded in the Light Dragon’s head, and pulling it free takes two full stamina wheels.

Walkthrough

Before you set out

Complete Trail of the Master Sword by clearing the Deku Tree Chasm and speaking with the Great Deku Tree. He will start Recovering the Hero’s Sword and mark the Light Dragon’s current location on your map. Make sure Link has two full green stamina wheels before boarding the dragon. The pull drains stamina over time, and temporary yellow stamina does not count toward the requirement. If you are short, complete Shrines and exchange Lights of Blessing at a Goddess Statue. Five stamina upgrades (4 Lights of Blessing each, 20 in total from 20 Shrines) fill the second wheel. You can also trade hearts for stamina at the Horned Statue (Cursed Statue) and switch back later if you prefer.

Find the Light Dragon

Open the map and look for the moving marker added by the quest. It shows where the Light Dragon is now. The dragon follows a long route around Hyrule, so it may take time to reach a convenient launch point. Check the map again before you travel; the marker keeps updating while the quest is active. Most guides find the dragon flying between the Thyphlo Ruins and Rospro Pass Skyview Towers, so activate both towers if you have not.

Launch toward the dragon

Use a nearby Skyview Tower to launch, or glide from a high Sky Island along the dragon’s route. Tulin’s gust can help extend a glide. Aim for the dragon’s head, where the Master Sword is embedded. If you miss, land on its back and move forward along the spine toward the head.

Pull the Master Sword

The Light Dragon does not attack. Its back is safe to stand on, and there are several updrafts along its body if you need to reposition. When you reach the sword, interact with it to begin pulling. Hold on through the stamina challenge and keep the control input held until Link pulls the blade free. With two full stamina wheels, the required amount is available. If you release the button or run out of stamina you fall off, but you can climb back up and retry as often as you need. Once the sequence ends, the Master Sword returns to Link and the memory Zelda’s Wish plays, after which you disembark at the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island.

Rewards

That completes Recovering the Hero’s Sword. The Master Sword is now available as a weapon. It loses energy after extended use and recharges after a short wait.

Tips

If you already have the Master Sword

It is possible to reach the Light Dragon and pull the sword before the Deku Tree gives you this quest. If you already have it when the quest is assigned, the game acknowledges this and the quest completes without another pull. You can still free the Deku Tree to restore Korok Forest and see the related scenes.

If the dragon is hard to reach

  • You cannot find the marker: Make sure Recovering the Hero’s Sword is active in the Adventure Log. The map marker is tied to the quest.
  • The dragon is too high or far away: Wait for its route to bring it near a Skyview Tower or Sky Island, then launch from there. The Light Dragon follows a much longer route than the other dragons.
  • You keep running out of stamina: You need two full green wheels, not a stamina meal or yellow bonus wheel. Add Stamina Vessels at a Goddess Statue before trying again.
  • You are on the dragon but not near the sword: Walk along its back toward the head and interact with the sword when the prompt appears.
