Regional Phenomena

Quest typeMain quest
GiverPurah
Starts inLookout Landing, after Purah asks you to use the Skyview Tower
ObjectiveInvestigate Hebra, Eldin, Lanayru and Gerudo
Recommended orderRito Village, Goron City, Zora’s Domain, then Gerudo Town
RewardFour Sage allies and their abilities; the story then returns to Crisis at Hyrule Castle

The quest begins during Crisis at Hyrule Castle: once you have synced the map at the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, Purah sends you to the four regions where strange phenomena are reported (Hebra, Eldin, Lanayru and Gerudo). Josha mentions that the princess may have been seen in Rito Village, which is why Hebra is the usual first stop.

Regional Phenomena is a hub quest: finish the main questline and Temple in each of the four regions, then report your findings to Purah at Lookout Landing. The four regions can be completed in any order, but the game points you toward Rito Village first, and that is a useful place to begin because Tulin’s gust makes later gliding easier. Guides disagree on the middle two: Nintendo Life suggests Goron City before Zora’s Domain, Shacknews the reverse; Gerudo Town is usually left last and is best entered at night, when the desert heat will not hurt you.

Spoiler warning: this guide covers the four regional storylines, their Temples, and what happens when you report back to Purah.

Walkthrough

Before you leave Lookout Landing

Activate the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and collect the Paraglider if you have not already. It makes the long trips between regions much easier. Activate other Skyview Towers and Shrines along the way so you have fast travel points nearby. You do not need to finish every Shrine or clear every tower before tackling a regional quest. Stop when you need more hearts, stamina, supplies, or a convenient warp point.

The bosses are Colgera (Wind Temple), Marbled Gohma (Fire Temple), Mucktorok (Water Temple) and Queen Gibdo (Lightning Temple); Queen Gibdo is generally considered the hardest.

Bring a few basics: cold-resistant armor or meals for Hebra; heat-resistant armor or elixirs for Eldin and Gerudo; Splash Fruit or Chuchu Jelly to remove sludge in Zora’s Domain; and arrows, elemental materials, and fused weapons for the regional fights.

1. Hebra: help the Rito

Head northwest to Rito Village in the Hebra region. The cold can drain hearts, so equip cold-resistant clothing or eat a cold-resistance meal before climbing into the mountains. Speak with the Rito in the village to begin Tulin of Rito Village. Follow the search for Tulin through the nearby caves and up into the sky. The trail leads to the Wind Temple, where you and Tulin work through the ship’s mechanisms and confront the source of the storm. Completing this storyline awakens Tulin as a Sage. His gust can give the Paraglider a boost, which is useful while exploring Hyrule and the sky.

2. Eldin: help the Gorons

Travel northeast to Goron City and speak with the Gorons to begin Yunobo of Goron City. If the heat is damaging Link, use heat-resistant gear or an elixir. The Fire Temple and the path around Death Mountain also call for light and sturdy weapons. Brightbloom Seeds help in dark areas, and wooden weapons can burn in high heat. Follow Yunobo’s story up Death Mountain and through the events surrounding YunoboCo. The route continues into the Depths and the Fire Temple. Use Yunobo’s charge to break obstacles and activate the temple’s mechanisms. After the Fire Temple, Yunobo becomes a Sage. His ability can smash obstacles and launch a fiery attack.

3. Lanayru: help the Zora

Go east to Zora’s Domain. Sludge covers parts of the region and clings to some of the Zora. Splash Fruit and blue Chuchu Jelly both help wash it away. The storyline begins with The Sludge-Covered Statue, then continues through Sidon’s quests. You will investigate the Zora’s problems, find the Broken Slate, follow the clues to the sky, and restore the Zora Armor before continuing with Sidon. The path leads to the Water Temple. Sidon’s water ability can protect Link and help him launch water attacks. After resolving the Water Temple crisis, he joins as a Sage.

4. Gerudo: help Riju

Head southwest to Gerudo Town. The desert has sharp temperature changes: daytime heat can hurt Link, while nights can become cold. Bring heat- and cold-resistance options, or plan travel around the temperature. Speak with Riju to begin Riju of Gerudo Town. The Gerudo are defending the region from Gibdos, which are difficult to damage with ordinary attacks. Use elemental attacks to expose them, then follow up with regular weapons. Riju’s lightning ability is central to the battles and the Lightning Temple. Complete the Lightning Temple to help Gerudo Town and awaken Riju as a Sage.

Return to Purah

Once you have completed all four regional storylines and Temples, return to Lookout Landing. Find Purah at the research lab and report what you learned. The four Sages join Link, and the main story directs you back toward Hyrule Castle. Purah is at the top of the research building, up the ladder by the telescope aimed at Hyrule Castle. This continues the paused Crisis at Hyrule Castle quest, which in turn leads to A Mystery in the Depths. If the objective still points to a region, check that its Temple and final story scene are complete before heading back.
