Dyeing to Find It

Quest typeShrine quest
GiverSteward Construct
Starts inLanayru Great Spring, in the ruins on Quatta’s Shelf (northwest of Mount Lanayru)
ShrineKurakat Shrine (Rauru’s Blessing), with the Takaruk Lightroot below
RewardSapphire Rod (listed in most guides as a Magic Scepter; shrine chest) and a Light of Blessing
RequirementsNone; only the Steward Construct, the riddle and a wait until morning

Talk to the Steward Construct in the ruins on Quatta’s Shelf, then rotate the stone formation beside it so its shadow falls on the white symbol on the ruins below at sunrise. Kurakat Shrine rises from the ruins, and its chest holds a Sapphire Rod.

Walkthrough

Read the riddle

Find the Steward Construct standing on top of a large stone block on Quatta’s Shelf (about 2398, -519, 154, between Rabia Plain and the shelf) and talk to it. There is no shrine to see yet, which is why the spot is easy to walk past. Its riddle tells you to dye the white pattern black when the sun awakens, which means a shadow must cover a white symbol on a wall. The symbol is on the ruined wall to the west, below the Construct’s ledge, and the big stone block on the crank beside the Construct is what casts the shadow.

Set up the stone formation

Walk to the crank mechanism and use Ultrahand to fit one of the loose wooden boards onto it, then turn the stone formation so the board points away from where the shrine will appear and its shadow will fall toward the white symbol (turning clockwise is the usual direction, but either works). You can turn the mechanism again later for fine adjustments, so it does not need to be perfect yet.

Wait for sunrise and align the shadow

The shadow only matters at dawn (around 6:00 AM). Build a campfire from nearby wood, light it with a Fire Fruit, flint or a flame weapon, and rest beside it until morning. When the sun rises, check the white symbol on the wall to the west: the shadow of the formation has to cover it completely. If it falls short, stand next to the crank and turn it a little, then look again. Once the shape is fully covered a cutscene plays.

Enter Kurakat Shrine

When the symbol is fully covered the shrine rises out of the ruins. Step inside and open the chest in the middle of the shrine for the Sapphire Rod (guides list it as a Magic Scepter), then take the Light of Blessing from the end of the shrine. The shrine has no puzzles. The Takaruk Lightroot lies below it at about (2360, -510, -610) in the Depths.

Rewards

  • Sapphire Rod (chest in Kurakat Shrine)
  • Light of Blessing

Tips

The quest has no time limit, so rest through the night at the campfire or simply wait out the day. The white symbol is easy to miss from the ledge; glide down a short way and look at the wall facing the formation.
