RewardHateno Cheese, and Koyin starts trading it for Fresh Milk

Koyin dropped her great-grandfather’s letter in the pond beside Hateno Pasture. Retrieve the floating message bottle, give it to her, then visit her house for your reward of Hateno Cheese. It also gets her cheese shop started.

Walkthrough

Talk to Koyin on the pond pier

Walk up the road east of Hateno Village to Hateno Pasture and go down to the small wooden pier at the edge of the pond. Koyin stands on it and explains that the bottle holding her great-grandfather’s letter fell into the water and that she cannot swim out to it.

Fish the bottle out of the pond

The bottle floats toward the middle of the pond, about (3659, -2013). You cannot simply pick it up: build a quick raft or fan-powered boat with Ultrahand (logs from nearby trees work), or lay a bridge of Zonai devices or Ice Arrows, then use Ultrahand on the bottle and carry it back to the pier.

Give her the bottle

Set the bottle down at Koyin’s feet on the pier with Ultrahand. She reads the letter, which turns out to describe a cheese recipe nobody could read before, and asks you to come to her house for your reward.

Collect your Hateno Cheese

Go to Koyin’s house at Hateno Pasture and talk to her in the kitchen to receive a Hateno Cheese. She turns the farm into a cheese shop, and from now on she gives you Hateno Cheese in exchange for Fresh Milk.

Rewards

You earn a Hateno Cheese and the right to swap Fresh Milk for more at Koyin’s shop. Hateno Cheese is also the item you need for A New Signature Food.

Most guides say the quest becomes available once you have started the mayoral-election chain in Hateno (Cece’s Team Cece or Team Reede? and Reede’s A New Signature Food, which sends you to Koyin). Hateno Cheese is also sold in the village general store afterwards.

Tips

  • Buy or catch Fresh Milk at Hateno Pasture first so you can swap for cheese straight away.
  • Keep one Hateno Cheese in your pouch for Reede’s quest before you start cooking with the rest.
