Reward50 rupees from Penn (one guide lists 100), plus the chest inside the well (a Gerudo Shield per most guides; a Gerudo Bow was also seen)

Penn, a Rito reporter at Gerudo Canyon Stable, suspects that Zelda sealed the well beside the stable for a reason. Climb down the well, break the rock wall at the bottom, defeat the monsters in the cave beyond and tell Penn what you found.

Walkthrough

Talk to Penn at the well

Speak to Penn beside the stone well outside Gerudo Canyon Stable. He heard Princess Zelda declared the well off-limits and thinks it is worth a look, but his wings are too wide to fit down it.

Climb down and break the wall

Jump down the well. At the bottom, break the rock wall blocking the way with a bomb, a hammer, a Bomb Flower or a rock-smashing weapon. A cave full of monsters lies beyond it.

Defeat the monsters

Fight everything in the cave: about three Lizalfos, a Like Like on the wall, an Electric Lizalfos on the ledge behind the Like Like, and a camouflaged Lizalfos up the slope once the middle is clear. Pick off Lizalfos from range with arrows where you can, and use Bomb Flowers or lightning to stagger the Like Like before shooting its core. The Lizalfos here can take ten hearts in one hit. Open the chest in the cave for a Gerudo Bow, then climb back out when the monsters are gone.

Report to Penn

Talk to Penn on the surface. He realises that Zelda must have known about the den of monsters and sealed the well on purpose. He pays you for the story and heads off to write it up for the paper.

Rewards

Penn pays you 50 rupees (PowerPyx lists 100, and the payout may depend on how far you got in Penn’s earlier quests). The chest in the cave, which appears when the Like Like falls, holds a Gerudo Shield in most guides’ accounts (a Gerudo Bow was also seen there).

Tips

  • Enemies in the well hit hard; arrive with at least ten hearts and some food.
  • Penn only appears at the stable after Potential Princess Sightings! has been taken on.
