QuestMaster Kohga of the Yiga Clan (side adventure)
RegionLanayru Great Spring Depths
BossMaster Kohga (third fight, on a plank walkway over black water)
RewardHuge Crystallized Charge, Bolt Boat schematic (Schema Stone)
Nearest LightrootsKawagom Lightroot (3298, 419, -770) below Mogawak Shrine; Uinoj Lightroot (2918, 508, -816) below Joniu Shrine
Recommended gearBow with Keese Eyeballs, a Zonai fan or boat for crossing water, Brightbloom Seeds, healing meals

The Abandoned Lanayru Mine is the third of Master Kohga’s hideouts. Light Kawagom Lightroot, cross the dark water north to the mine, then beat Kohga on a long plank walkway over the water. The chest on the stone slab afterwards holds a Huge Crystallized Charge, and the Steward Construct gives you the Bolt Boat schematic and points you to the Hebra mine.

Before you go

The approach crosses open black water, so bring Brightbloom Seeds and a Zonai fan, boat or raft built with Ultrahand. Fuse Keese Eyeballs to your arrows as before, and pack healing meals, because Kohga’s attack chain is longer than in the Gerudo mine.

Getting there

Light Kawagom Lightroot and cross the water

Fast travel to Kawagom Lightroot (3298, 419, -770), below Mogawak Shrine, or Uinoj Lightroot a little to the west, and head north to the mine at (3170, 936, -677). Cross the dark water with a raft or Zonai fan and keep a Brightbloom Seed ready for the ledges. A chest on a ledge along the wall west of the mine, at about (3191, 534, -749), holds a Large Crystallized Charge, so open it on your way. A shorter way in is the Chasm Under Zora’s Domain, reached through a cave behind the waterfall at Zora’s Domain, which drops you at the mine.

Master Kohga fight

Win the plank-walkway duel

Kohga now rides a Headlight Raft with two Yiga Footsoldiers armed with Duplex Bows, so deal with them first. The arena is the water and a wooden plank walkway with little room to dodge. Take the small raft at the dock and let go of the controls before you swing. When you stun him his raft is left behind for you to use. He drops his force field to throw bombs, which is your window to shoot; fuse a Keese Eyeball to arrows so they home in. At low health he throws boulders and raises an energy screen, and a Rocket fused to a shield lifts you above it. Three Water Octoroks patrol the water. Watch your footing on the planks and your heart count; his health bar goes down in steps and the fight takes longer than the Gerudo one.

Rewards

Open the chest and talk to the construct

Kohga says the next encounter will be the last and leaves. Open the chest on the stone slab for a Huge Crystallized Charge, then talk to the Steward Construct to receive the Bolt Boat Schema Stone. It tells you the man headed for the northwestern Abandoned Hebra Mine.

Tips

  • Once Kawagom Lightroot is lit you can fast travel straight back to the mine’s approach.
  • Light Sikatag Lightroot before the last fight so you can reach the Hebra mine without a long glide.
