The Great Abandoned Central Mine is the first of Master Kohga’s hideouts and the only one the main story sends you to. Follow the statue trail to the mine, repair two carts to learn Autobuild, then beat Kohga when he rolls out in his machine. A Huge Crystallized Charge chest and the Fanplane schematic are your rewards, and Kohga flees to the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.

Before you go

The mine is in the Depths, so it is pitch dark and gloom pools sit on the floor. Bring plenty of Brightbloom Seeds, a bow with a good supply of arrows, and meals that restore hearts. Keese Eyeballs fused to arrows give you homing shots for the fight.

Getting there

Follow the statue trail to the mine

Start from Iayusus Lightroot (-785, -433, -490), below Susuyai Shrine, and follow the chain of statues south: each statue’s pointing arm shows the heading to the next. Light Nihcayam Lightroot (-705, -867, -501) on the way and keep following the statues until the trail opens into the mine’s stone halls. Nogukoyk Lightroot, a short distance north-east of the mine, is the closest fast-travel point once you have lit it.

Learn Autobuild

Repair both carts with Ultrahand and Autobuild

Talk to the Steward Construct and the researchers at the centre of the mine, then fix the two carts. On the round pedestal, use Ultrahand to fit the loose wheel to the cart and match the other wheels. On the square pedestal, open Autobuild, choose the cart design and confirm to assemble it from the loose parts. Autobuild rebuilds a saved design from nearby parts, or from Zonaite if parts are missing.

Master Kohga fight

Beat Kohga in the wheeled machine

Once the carts run, Kohga arrives with two Yiga Footsoldiers and fights from a spiked, wheeled machine inside a ring of blue Zonai energy walls. His health scales with your progress (about 600 to 1,200 HP) and his weak point is his head. Keep moving and dodge sideways when the machine charges. Fuse a Keese Eyeball to arrows and shoot him while he is exposed, then rush in when he is knocked off the machine. Stay out of the gloom on the floor and ignore the Footsoldiers unless they get in your way.

Rewards

Open the chest and take the schematic

After the fight, open the chest for a Huge Crystallized Charge, worth 100 Crystallized Charges. Talk to the Steward Construct to receive the Fanplane schematic. The Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan entry is now in your log and points you at the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.

Kohga fight notes

  • Autobuild is not story-locked: if you reach the mine before the quest sends you, you still get it.
  • An arrow to Kohga’s head stuns him and knocks him off the vehicle.
  • You can also board the vehicle (keep away from the spiked front) and stand beside him. He drops a large rock above you: jump clear, and when it hits him he is briefly helpless, so hit him as much as you can.
  • Below half health his vehicle grows taller and faster. At low health it gains rockets and speeds across the arena; when it hits a wall, sprint to board it before it despawns. Standing on the vehicle too long makes him despawn with it.
  • Speed-up food and bombs help. Zonaite can also be traded here for Crystallized and Zonai Charges.

Tips

  • Light Nogukoyk Lightroot before you leave so you can fast travel back.
  • The Bargainer Statue on the lower level is also where the eyes from the A Call from the Depths side adventure are delivered, so pick up Poes on your way in.
  • Fanplane gives you a ready-made flying design for the long Depths trips to the later mines.
