The Second Quest is the replay mode that starts after you complete the original game. You keep your spells, your sword techniques and your Attack, Magic and Life levels, which makes the replay easier than the first. You do need to collect the palace items, Heart Containers and Magic Containers again.

What carries over
Spells
Every spell you learned in the first quest stays with Link. You do not need to visit the wise men again, so you can go straight to the palaces and the overworld.
Attack, Magic and Life levels
Your three levels and both sword techniques (Downward and Upward Thrust) are kept as well. If you finished the first quest with Attack at level 8, Magic at 8 and Life at 8, Link starts the second run at those levels. The Experience and Levels page explains how the levels work.
What you must collect again
Palace items
The special items from the palaces, such as the Candle, Handy Glove, Raft, Boots, Flute and Cross, have to be found again. Walk back through the palaces in order to pick them up. The Items page lists where each one is.
Heart Containers and Magic Containers
Heart Containers, Magic Containers and any spare lives you had also reset. Walk to each of the eight spots again to rebuild your life and magic meters. Remember that the wizards in Nabooru, Darunia and Kasuto check your magic meter again, so you cannot skip the Magic Containers before them. The Heart Containers and Magic Containers pages list the locations.
The save file
A save made after finishing the game is marked with a Triforce piece next to its name, so you can tell a Second Quest save apart from a first-quest save.
