Bempu and Buzzu are two quarrelling Deku Scrubs, and Bempu promises to stop teasing Buzzu if someone beats him at hide-and-seek. You play on Buzzu’s side through four rounds. Before each one Bempu gives a “Friendly hint!” naming a landmark, and he is always buried in the ground right next to it, so you find the spot and pull him out with Bind. It is a pleasant tour of the wetlands that ends with the Fairy Fragrance accessory.

How to Start

In Scrubton, two scrubs stand on the paved patch below the researcher’s stone platform. Bempu, the one with the red leaves, gives you a “Friendly warning!”: “Stay away from Buzzu! All they do is whine.” Buzzu fires back (“I CAN HEAR YOU, NUMBSCRUB!”) and says Bempu is “bitter and nasty”. Bempu offers to cut it out if Buzzu beats him at hide-and-seek. Buzzu is bad at the game, so Bempu lets him team up with someone else, and Buzzu picks you. When Bempu says “Just say when you’re ready”, choose Let’s do this!. He tells you to close your eyes; the screen goes dark, he shouts “Go!”, and the Looking for Bempu banner appears.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Warm-up round – the trendiest shop in town

Hint: “You’ll find me near the trendiest shop in town.” That is Scrubton’s Smoothie Shop, the hollow stump hut with a big leaf roof and a pot on top. Bempu is buried in the grass just below the hut, beside the small palm and the stone path. Point Bind at him and pull him out. “You…found me?” he gasps, then: “Um, that was a warm-up round! Let’s go again!”

Step 2: A lake that’s a symbol of love

Hint: “You’ll find me near a lake that’s a symbol of love!” This is the heart-shaped pond in the jungle outside Scrubton. Follow the paths out of town, past the waterfalls and pools, until you reach the large pond shaped like a heart. Bempu is in the grass on its bank, just in front of a big red flower. Bind him out (“You found me again?!”). “Guess you’re a student of the game. I’d better crank up the difficulty!” The quest updates.

Step 3: Between four stone siblings

Hint: “You’ll find me between four stone siblings!” The Adventure Log puts it as “the center of four stone siblings”. Look for a walled clearing with four big round Deku stone heads, two at the top and two at the bottom, each pair flanking a flight of stone steps, with glowing blue mushrooms around the grass. Getting there takes some climbing over the jungle ledges, and Cloud echoes make that easier. A small purple monster prowls the clearing, so deal with it first (a Darknut echo works). Bempu is buried on the stone path in the middle. Bind him out: “Oh, come on! Again?!” “You’ve left me no choice… I’ll have to pull out all the stops!”

Step 4: A home that used to be covered in dark thorns

Final hint: “You’ll find me near a home that used to be covered in dark thorns!”, followed by “Ha! There’s no way you know where that is!” It is Blossu’s home, where the Faron Wetlands rift once swallowed the house in dark thorns. Warp to the waypoint right beside it; Blossu, the scrub with the red mushroom cap, stands by the stone platform there. Bempu is buried in the grass next to the stone path a few steps from the waypoint. Pull him out with Bind for the last time.

Step 5: Bempu and Buzzu make up

“Awww. You found me.” Bempu complains that you should have said you were “a pro hide-and-seeker”, and Buzzu tells him to admit he lost and stop teasing. Then the truth comes out: “I tease you because I’m jealous, Buzzu! You’re so good at making stuff—cotton candy AND smoothies.” Buzzu says he could have taught him, and the two start to patch things up. “Well, thanks for helping me win! Here you go.”

Reward

Buzzu hands you the prize: “You got fairy fragrance! Wear this cologne made of fairy flowers to make fairies appear a bit more often when you cut grass or other plants.” After a little more soul-searching from Bempu (“Am I…annoying?”), the Side Quest Complete banner appears. The Fairy Fragrance is the stronger partner of the Fairy Flower (Fairy Appearance Up +); equip it from the Accessories screen.

Tips

  • Bempu is always within a few steps of the landmark in his hint. If he is under the stone path, a small sprout pokes out of the ground where he is hiding.
  • Forgot a hint? Open the quest in the Adventure Log; it repeats where Bempu is hiding this round.
  • The warm-up round sends you to the Smoothie Shop, where the scrub from The Mythical Deku Snake is waiting outside, so you can do both quests at once.
  • Buzzu is the scrub who makes cotton candy and smoothies; the cotton-candy fan for Cotton-Candy Hunt is also in Scrubton, so pick that quest up next.
