A Deku Scrub in Scrubton is sure he can get rich by catching the Deku Snake, a creature only Deku Scrubs know about, and he wants you to fetch the bait. It’s a simple fetch quest: bring him three Electro Apples and he pays you a cut of 2 Monster Stones. If you already carry three apples, the quest starts and finishes in one conversation, and his daydreams about being rich are worth hearing.

How to Start

Go to Scrubton, the Deku Scrub village in the middle of the Faron Wetlands (the area name appears as you walk in past the pond and the scrubs by the stone steps). Head up the path to the big hollow-stump hut with the leafy roof and the pot on top. Three scrubs stand in front of it, and the one beside the doorway has a speech bubble reading “It can’t fail!”. Talk to him while he’s muttering to himself: “All I have to do is catch the Deku Snake, then I’ll be the richest Scrub in Faron Wetlands. I can buy all the smoothies I want!”

Walkthrough

Step 1: Get let in on the secret

He’s startled (“Oop! Were you…listening to me?”) and decides he has no choice: he’ll make you an ally in his money-making mission. Now you know about the Deku Snake, a creature kept secret by Deku Scrubs. No one’s ever caught it, so there’s big money on offer if you do, and catching it is “a quick and easy path to fame and fortune!” His plan is to use bait to lure it out of hiding.

Step 2: Take the job

The snake loves electro apples, “a specialty of the Faron Wetlands.” As his new recruit, you have to go out and get three, while he stays behind: “I’m just the brains, so I’ll hang back!” The side quest The Mythical Deku Snake starts, and his bubble changes to “I’m waiting!”. If you’re short on apples, the closest supply is right in Scrubton: the researcher Scrub’s quest The Rain-Making Monster pays 8 Electro Apples. Chests also hold them, such as 5 in Suthorn Forest and 10 behind the log barrier in Hyrule Field (see Electro Apple).

Step 3: Hand over the bait

Talk to him again with three apples in your bag. He asks, “You got those electro apples? We’ll need three to lure out the Deku Snake.” Pick “I brought them!” (“Wait a minute.” backs out and keeps the quest open). He checks the haul, “Mm… Yep! Three electro apples!”, and admits, “I’ve got to hand it to you—you really came through!”

Reward

“Here’s your cut.” You get “You got 2 monster stones!”, and the game explains that these oddities form in the bodies of monsters. Monster Stones aren’t a smoothie ingredient; Dampé accepts them instead of rupees to repair a broken automaton (see Automatons), and they sell for 5 rupees each. The scrub then dreams out loud: smoothies galore, then all the finest meals in Hyrule… except that’s a lot of meals, and what DO rich people spend money on? “Hmm. Might need to give this a rethink.” The Side Quest Complete banner appears.

Tips

  • Stock up first. With three Electro Apples already in your bag, you can choose “I brought them!” on your second talk and the quest is done in one short visit.
  • Electro Apples are also the Lightning-Proof smoothie ingredient, and Apple drinks are the ones to carry in Faron (see Smoothies).
  • Bempu hides right next to this hut in the warm-up round of Looking for Bempu, so you can do both quests on the same trip to Scrubton.
