An old man in Kakariko Village has lost his cat, and the only ones who know where she went are the other cats. To ask them you need the Cat Clothes, which a young woman bought from the village shop first. Dig up her buried stash by the windmill in exchange for the outfit, question the cats, then wake the missing cat from her nap in a tree. Beyond the grapes, the real prize is the Cat Clothes: they let you talk to cats for the rest of the game.
How to Start
In the middle of Kakariko Village an old man calls out, “Oh! Excuse me, young miss, would you mind listening to an old man’s tale of heartbreak?” His cat is missing. She’s often with the other cats in town, and he wishes he had a way to ask them if they’ve seen her. “Ah, if only I had a suit of cat clothes…” Pick “Cat clothes?” and he explains they’re magical outfits that let you talk to cats. There was a set at the village shop, but someone snapped them up before he could buy them: the young lady who usually stands in front of the shop. The “Questioning the Local Cats” side quest banner appears.

Walkthrough
Step 1: Find the young woman at the shop
Walk to the village shop (the building with the bag sign and a fenced yard) and talk to the young woman standing outside. “Oh, yes, I just bought a suit of cat clothes.” The trouble is, she plain forgot that “anytime I get close to a cat, I bust out sneezing!” She offers a deal: do her a favor and she’ll just give you the cat clothes.

Step 2: Lure the cat off the buried stash
She points you to the windmill at the foot of the cliffs: “Look over there. You see that cat? There’s something important to me buried right where it’s sitting.” The cat refuses to move, and she can’t get close without sneezing. Go to the windmill and summon a Grilled Fish echo on the grass near the cat. The cat leaves its spot for the fish, uncovering a patch of bare earth.

Step 3: Dig up the secret stash
Summon a Holmill echo on the bare patch where the cat was sitting and let it dig. Up comes the bag: “You found the secret stash! It’s heavy with rupees.”

Step 4: Get the Cat Clothes
The young woman comes over to the windmill: “You dug up my secret stash! You’re my hero!” She admits she buried it because she kept buying impulsively, but says she’s done denying her impulses now. As promised, she gives you the outfit: “You got some cat clothes!” “It’s an odd getup that lets you speak with cats, making it a must-have for feline fans everywhere.” The quest log updates.

Step 5: Report back to the old man
Return to the old man. “Oh! You got the cat clothes?!” Searching the whole village for cats sounds pretty daunting at his age, so he asks you to use the clothes and see what the village cats have to say: “I’m sure one of those rascals knows where my little friend is.” Change into the Cat Clothes from your outfits before you go.

Step 6: Question the cat on the windmill roof
With the Cat Clothes on, you can talk to any cat in the village, but the one who knows is lounging on the roof of the windmill. Place a Water Block echo against the windmill and swim up through them to reach the roof. The cat asks “Need something, hon?”; choose “I’m looking for a cat.” “The old man’s friend? I just saw her.” She found a nice tree by the road from the east entrance to the village and climbed up for a nap.

Step 7: Wake the cat napping in the tree
Leave Kakariko by the east entrance and follow the road. The missing cat is curled up on top of a pair of round trees beside the dirt path, below a rocky cliff with a cave mouth. Watch out for the Crow that swoops around here. Place a Water Block against the tree and swim up to reach her, then talk to her: “Hm? I was asleep… What’s going on?” Realizing she’s hungry too, she decides to head home for a snack, and the quest updates.

Reward
Go back to the old man. “Oh, it’s you! My kitty came home!” He knows you helped her home and gives you a token of his gratitude: “You got 10 bunches of refreshing grapes!” Refreshing Grapes boost a drink’s healing effect and are the base of the heart-restoring Refreshing smoothies. He muses that cats are such fickle little creatures, and the “Side Quest Complete” banner appears. You keep the Cat Clothes.

Tips
- Wear the Cat Clothes whenever you meet a cat with a speech bubble. The cat on the Seesyde Village beach starts the side quest A Treat for My Person, which needs them.
- Water Block is the key echo here twice over: once for the windmill roof and once for the treetop. A Grilled Fish echo is what gets the stubborn cat off the stash.
- The cucco pen beside the pond in the same village has its own side quest, Cuccos on the Loose, which pays a Fairy Bottle. It’s an easy one to do on the same visit.
