Basa, Goron City’s fireworks artist, has promised Chief Darston a spectacular new show but has run out of blastpowder soil. Fetch some from a golden-flower patch up on the lava fields and she turns it into fireworks in new colors. Her thank-you includes the Firework echo, which you need later for Dampé’s Tocktorok.
How to Start
After Eldin Temple, enter Goron City and walk through the side room with the big Goron-head pot to Basa’s house; “Time to light ’em up!” floats over her as you come in. Talk to her: “I’m Basa, the local fireworks artist! Humongous firework displays are my life’s work.” She is preparing a new creation for the celebration of the new chief and wants to add “a BLAST of color” to it, but “ya need blastpowder soil to make fireworks, and I used all mine up while experimentin’.” Where to find it? “It’s usually up higher on the mountain,” and “those golden flowers like to grow in it, so you can usually find it wherever you see lots of ’em.” The side quest The Fireworks Artist begins.

Walkthrough
Step 1: Climb out onto the lava fields
Leave Goron City by the big Goron-face entrance and head up the canyon beside it. Where the path is blocked by a ledge, summon an Old Bed against it and use it as a step to climb up. Beyond, the sandy canyon gives way to grey stone paths between lava pools, patrolled by rock monsters; stay off the glowing lava.

Step 2: Water Block up the high wall
Further on, the path runs between two lava pools to a tall stone wall with golden flowers at its foot. Summon a Water Block against the wall, swim up through it and climb onto the ledge above. Past a small green hot spring you’ll pass a Goron muttering “What am I gonna do…”; that’s Ondes, who starts The Flames of Fortune, so you can come back for him later.

Step 3: Bridge the lavafall with Old Beds
Keep heading up until a broad lavafall cuts across the path. Summon a line of Old Bed echoes edge to edge over the molten stream and walk across them to the far side. A few steps on, the ground opens into a terrace carpeted with golden flowers and dry grass beside another green hot spring.

Step 4: Dig up the blastpowder soil
Look for the sparkling spot among the golden flowers and pick it up: “You got some blastpowder soil!” The description reads: “It’s a material used in fireworks to make vibrant colors. You should bring it to the fireworks artist in Goron City.”

Step 5: Take it back to Basa
There’s a waypoint just above the flower terrace, so warp back to the waypoint beside Goron City instead of walking, then return to Basa’s house. She knows before you speak: “I smell rotten eggs, you must’ve found some blastpowder soil! Is that for me?” Inspired, she realizes “I can adjust the blastpowder ratio to make new colors! Like gold! And aqua!”, the perfect thing “to celebrate the rift being gone and Darston becoming chief,” and runs off to get to work.

Step 6: Watch the show
Basa leads you to a rocky ledge lined with barrels beside the lava: “Since you helped me out, you get a front-row seat for the show!” Fireworks in aqua, pink and gold burst over the volcano (“Papa, look! Fireworks!”, “Oooh… Such pretty colors!”), and Darston gasps, “Wow! I’ve never seen fireworks with these colors before!” followed by “Basa’s fireworks are the best!”

Reward
Back home, Basa is “so glad everyone, including Darston, liked the new fireworks!” and says “I can’t thank you enough, but maybe this’ll speak for me”: “You got 50 rupees! That makes you really happy!” She admits the lesson she learned is that “you shouldn’t promise more than you can deliver.” After the Side Quest Complete banner, she hands over her design as well: “You learned the firework echo!” The Firework is a Goron device that “launches three fireworks in a row” (see the echo list), and it is one of the two echoes Dampé asks for in Explosions Galore! to build the Tocktorok (automatons).

Tips
- Bring both the Old Bed and the Water Block: the Old Bed is used as a step near the city exit and as a bridge over the lavafall, the Water Block to get up the high wall.
- The waypoint above the golden-flower terrace is also the quickest way back up for The Flames of Fortune, whose quest giver stands on your route.
- Keep the Firework echo in mind for Explosions Galore! at Dampé’s studio, which can’t be finished without it.
