Tormali, a guard at the Oasis, has been sent to find the legendary flying tiles that the ancient Gerudo used to drive off intruders. They do exist: a small dark room high in the red-rock canyon is full of them. Learn the Flying Tile echo there, warp back to the Oasis and summon one in front of her for 50 rupees. Along the way you pick up an echo that’s genuinely useful, since you can stand on a Flying Tile and ride it briefly.

How to Start
Warp to the Oasis waypoint and walk to the grassy bank beside the pink tent, where a Business Scrub runs his Smoothie Shop stall under a palm tree. Tormali stands on the grass muttering “Where could they be?” Talk to her: “Oh, just muttering to myself, sorry about that. I’m Tormali, an oasis guard.” Guarding the oasis is her main priority, but she’s been given another mission. “In your travels, have you ever seen tiles that can fly through the air?” According to her boss’s research, ancient Gerudo used them to chase off unwelcome guests. She has scoured the desert and found nothing, and asks you to bring her one if you have better luck. The banner Side Quest: The Flying Tile appears.
Walkthrough
Step 1: Climb into the red-rock canyon
The tiles are in the red-rock canyon at the north-west corner of the desert, directly north of Gerudo Town; on your map it’s the high plateau above the town. The canyon is a maze of stepped red-rock ledges. Place an Old Bed against each ledge and use it as a step to climb, working north and upward past the palm trees on the plateaus. When the area name Hyrule Field appears on screen you’re on the top level of the canyon, right by the cave.
Step 2: Learn the Flying Tile echo
Look for a dark doorway cut into a red-rock wall on the upper plateau and go inside. The small room beyond has a sandy floor dotted with square patterned tiles. As soon as you step in, the tiles lift off the floor one by one and fly at you, smashing on impact and leaving holes in the floor. Dodge them or take the hit; once one has shattered, Zelda learns it: “You learned the flying-tile echo!” Its notebook entry reads that this magical floor tile flies at any who come near, and that if you stand on top of it you can briefly fly with it.
Step 3: Show the tile to Tormali
Open the map and warp back to the Oasis waypoint, then walk over to Tormali. Select Flying Tile from your echoes and place it on the grass right in front of her. She’s thrilled: “Is this the flying tile that Facette spoke about?!” and “You’ve got to show that to me again. Show it to me a bunch!” After a short fade she says “All right, now that I’ve seen the tiles with my own eyes, I can share what I learned with my boss.”
Reward
“Thank you, you’ve been a huge help. Please, take this as payment for your assistance.” Zelda holds up a purple rupee: “You got 50 rupees! That makes you really happy!” Tormali then talks about her boss, a leader among the Gerudo who doesn’t leave town much but makes a point of researching the ruins for useful things to bring back: “She’s so incredibly selfless. I aspire to be like her.” The Side Quest Complete banner for The Flying Tile appears.
Tips
- Do this on the same trip that you explore the canyon north of Gerudo Town: the tile room sits on the plateau route, and the Oasis waypoint makes the return trip instant.
- While you’re at the Oasis, blend a drink at the Business Scrub’s Smoothie Shop branch next to Tormali to start Recipes, Please!, and try the Mango Rush minigame in the pink tent.
- Keep the Flying Tile in mind for the rest of the desert: standing on one lets you ride it for a short hop.
