The Biggoron’s Sword is won through a chain of trades that can only be completed as adult Link. You start with a Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village, pass it through a series of characters across Hyrule, and finish with Biggoron on Death Mountain. Each trade gives you the next item, and you can carry only one trading item at a time. Three of the items spoil if you do not deliver them in a few minutes. If a timer runs out, the item reverts to the one before it, so you can repeat the previous step. Warp songs do not stop the timers, but they do not spoil the item either, so they are the fastest way to cover the long legs. The child-era trade chain (the Weird Egg and Zelda’s Letter) is a separate quest.

The steps in detail
1. Pocket Egg

Once you are an adult, go to Kakariko Village and speak to the Cucco Lady, Anju, by her Cucco pen. She gives you the Pocket Egg, which takes the single trading slot, so you must not be holding another trading item. The egg needs to hatch overnight. Leave the village (time does not pass inside), wait until morning, or play Sun’s Song to change the time of day. Once the sun rises, the egg hatches into a Pocket Cucco on its own.

2. Pocket Cucco and Talon

Talon is sleeping in one of the houses in Kakariko Village after Ingo drove him from the ranch; look in the house at the foot of the stairs on the north side of the village. Stand next to him with the Pocket Cucco equipped and use it. Its crowing wakes him, and he heads back toward Lon Lon Ranch.

3. Cojiro

Take the Pocket Cucco back to the Cucco Lady. She is delighted that it woke a very lazy man, and in return she gives you Cojiro, a blue Cucco that used to belong to her brother, the Master Craftsman’s Son.

4. Odd Mushroom

Enter the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest and take the first path on the left, where the Skull Kid stood when you were a child. The Master Craftsman’s Son is sitting there looking miserable. Equip Cojiro and use it near him. Cheered up, he gives you an Odd Mushroom to take to his grandmother in Kakariko Village. You now have 3 minutes before it spoils.

5. Odd Potion

Get back to Kakariko Village within three minutes. The fastest route is the Nocturne of Shadow warp song, which drops you in the Graveyard right above the village, but you can also ride Epona. Granny’s shop is behind the main Potion Shop. Go in, take the passage on the left to the back door, and climb the steps behind the shop. Give Granny the mushroom, and she turns it into an Odd Potion. The 3DS version calls it the Odd Poultice. There is no timer on the potion.

6. Poacher’s Saw

Go back to the same spot in the Lost Woods. The young man has gone, and a Kokiri girl named Fado now stands there. She tells you what became of him. Give her the Odd Potion, and she gives you the Poacher’s Saw.

7. Broken Goron’s Sword

Head west across Hyrule Field to Gerudo Valley. The bridge across the canyon is broken, so you need Epona, who can jump the gap, or the Longshot (the Hookshot is too short). Across the gap, the Master Craftsman, the boss of the carpenters, stands outside the tent. Give him the Poacher’s Saw and he hands you the Broken Goron’s Sword.

8. Prescription

Climb the Death Mountain Trail to the summit, where Biggoron lives next to the Great Fairy Fountain and the path into Death Mountain Crater. Show him the Broken Goron’s Sword. He says he cannot repair it because eruptions have irritated his eyes. He gives you a Prescription and tells you to take it to King Zora for eye drops.

9. Eyeball Frog

Go to King Zora in Zora’s Domain. He is frozen in red ice, so you must first melt it with Blue Fire from the Ice Cavern in an empty bottle. Show him the Prescription. He has no drops, but he gives you an Eyeball Frog. You have 3 minutes to carry it to the Lakeside Laboratory on Lake Hylia. Play the Serenade of Water straight away and walk to the laboratory, which is the building on the right-hand side of the lake.

10. World’s Finest Eye Drops

Give the Eyeball Frog to the scientist in the Lakeside Laboratory. He makes the World’s Finest Eye Drops from it. You now have 4 minutes to get them to Biggoron. The quickest way is the Bolero of Fire, then climb out of Death Mountain Crater to the summit of the Trail. Riding Epona through Hyrule Field and Kakariko Village is slower but also works.

11. Claim Check

Give Biggoron the eye drops before the timer ends. His eyes clear, and he gives you the Claim Check. If you are too slow, the drops turn back into the Eyeball Frog, and you can return to King Zora for another.

12. Biggoron’s Sword

Biggoron forges the sword over three days. Pass the time with Sun’s Song, or simply play on for three in-game days. Then return to the summit and show him the Claim Check. He hands over Biggoron’s Sword.

What the sword does
The Biggoron’s Sword does twice the damage of the Master Sword, and the blade does not break. It is held with two hands, so you cannot guard with a shield while it is equipped. It cannot finish Ganon, since only the Master Sword can deal the final blow, but it is useful during that fight when the Master Sword has been knocked away. Biggoron’s little brother Medigoron in Goron City sells a Giant’s Knife for 200 Rupees. It looks the same as the real sword but the blade breaks after 8 hits, so it is not a replacement. See Items and Equipment for the sword tiers.

Tips for the timed steps
Learn the Serenade of Water, the Bolero of Fire and the Nocturne of Shadow before you start, and carry a bottle of Blue Fire to King Zora. Plan the three timed legs before you start them: Lost Woods to Kakariko Village, Zora’s Domain to Lake Hylia, and Lake Hylia to Biggoron.
