Spirit Tracks has 16 different treasures, and every one of them sorts into a fixed value tier of 50, 150, 500 or 2,500 rupees. You pick them up from chests, pots, leaf piles, shops and mini-game prizes, and you cash them in at Linebeck III’s trading company once the Trading Post is open. Rupees are not the best use for them, though: all 28 cars beyond your free Spirit train cost treasure, so most of what you find is worth keeping.

How treasure works

Every treasure goes straight onto the Collection screen with a short description, and it stays there as a count. Nothing happens until you visit the Linebeck Trading Company, which opens after you dig up the Regal Ring from his grandfather’s hiding place in the Ocean Realm chapter. Linebeck’s counter then lets you either order train cars or sell treasure, and he pays the tier value for each piece you sell. The list of what each car costs is on the train cars page.

Common treasures (50 rupees)

The five cheapest treasures turn up everywhere, and the early game hands out several of them in your first hours. They are also the bulk of the cheaper cars, so keep them.

Demon Fossil

Demon Fossil

Sells for 50 rupees, and you need 25 of them if you want every train car. The in-game blurb calls it an ancient fossil that sounds rare but turns up all over the place. You can find them in pots, chests and leaf piles in the grass, and Tower of Spirits chests hold a few too.

Stalfos Skull

Stalfos Skull

Sells for 50 rupees, with 19 needed across all cars. You find them in chests and pots, in the Snow Realm and the Snow Temple among other places. Skull-themed cars ask for the most of them.

Star Fragment

Star Fragment

Sells for 50 rupees, with 9 needed for the full set of cars. The game describes it as a stone said to have fallen from the sky. Look for them in chests, such as those in the Tower of Spirits, and out in the desert.

Bee Larvae

Bee Larvae

Sells for 50 rupees and 18 are needed. Hanging hives on islands and in fields drop them, and some chests hold more.

Wood Heart

Wood Heart

Sells for 50 rupees, and you need 19 for all cars. The blurb jokes that it is an acorn that is debatable as a treasure. Chests, pots and the leaf piles of the Forest Realm hold them, and Tower of Spirits chests can hold them too.

Medium-rare treasures (150 rupees)

This tier is mostly jewellery. Shops start selling these once you are further into the game: Beedle’s Air Shop, the Castle Town Shop and the Anouki General Store each offer one at a time for 300 rupees (Beedle’s membership cards reduce that price).

Dark Pearl Loop

Dark Pearl Loop

Sells for 150 rupees, with 12 needed in total. It is a necklace of rare dark pearls. Chests such as those in the Forest Temple and the Tower of Spirits can hold one, and shops stock them too.

Pearl Necklace

Pearl Necklace

Sells for 150 rupees, and every car added up asks for 21 of them, more than any other mid-tier piece. Chests such as the one in the Snow Temple can hold one, and some shops stock them as well.

Ruto Crown

Ruto Crown

Sells for 150 rupees, with 13 needed. The blurb says generations of Zora princesses wore it. Tower of Spirits chests can hold one, and the Castle Town shop stocks it when it is in rotation.

Dragon Scale

Dragon Scale

Sells for 150 rupees and 14 are needed for every car. Chests such as those in the Snow Temple can hold one, and Beedle’s Air Shop sells them for 300 rupees.

Pirate Necklace

Pirate Necklace

Sells for 150 rupees, with 14 needed across every car. The description says only the future leader of the pirates can wear it. Tower of Spirits chests can hold one, and Beedle’s Air Shop sells it when it is in stock.

Rare treasures (500 rupees)

Rare treasures are what the late cars (Stagecoach, Sweet and Golden) are built from, and the Tower of Spirits floors drop many of them in chests. Beedle sells one of these at a time for 1,000 rupees, and Linebeck pays 500 for each.

Palace Dish

Palace Dish

Sells for 500 rupees, with 7 needed in total. The blurb calls it a dish once prized by the royal family. Tower of Spirits chests can hold them, and Beedle’s Air Shop and the Goron Target Range offer more.

Goron Amber

Goron Amber

Sells for 500 rupees, and you need 7. The game calls it a hard, valuable mineral with a bug trapped inside. Tower of Spirits chests can hold one, and Beedle’s Air Shop sells it when it is in rotation.

Mystic Jade

Mystic Jade

Sells for 500 rupees, with 9 needed. It is a green jewel whose strange light makes it valuable. Look in Tower of Spirits chests and in Beedle’s Air Shop, which sells one for 1,000 rupees.

Ancient Gold Piece

Ancient Gold Piece

Sells for 500 rupees and is wanted 10 times across the cars. Holding it is said to carry you back to long-forgotten days. Tower of Spirits chests can hold them, and the Skating Rink can pay one out.

Super-rare treasures (2,500 rupees)

Only two treasures reach 2,500 rupees, and you only need two of each for every car in the Golden set. You will not find either in a shop. They come from mini-games, bonus dungeons and card rewards, and several can be replayed.

Alchemy Stone

Alchemy Stone

Sells for 2,500 rupees, and the Golden set asks for 2 in total. The in-game text says its golden gleam entrances all who see it. You can win one from the top prize in Russell’s sword training in Castle Town, the top Skating Rink prize at Slippery Station, the final level of Take ‘Em All On!, and from the Snowdrift Station dungeon and the Disorientation Station cave.

Regal Ring

Regal Ring

Sells for 2,500 rupees, and it is the only treasure the story needs: the first one is buried by Linebeck’s grandfather and pays the Bridge Worker. Later rings come from the Whip Race, the Sword Training top prize, Take ‘Em All On! Level 3, the Ends of the Earth Station, the Lost at Sea Temple (you can replay it for more) and Beedle’s Diamond Card.

Where treasure comes from

Common pieces are the easy ones: break pots, open early chests, shake trees and blow away the leaf piles northeast of Whittleton with the Whirlwind. Pots in caves and cellars are worth smashing on every visit.

Shops are the dependable route to 150 and 500-tier pieces. Beedle’s Air Shop restocks one 150-tier treasure for 300 rupees and one 500-tier treasure for 1,000 rupees a day; the Castle Town Shop and, after the Heart Container is bought, the Anouki General Store each restock a random 300-rupee treasure after a day.

Russell’s sword training in the Hyrule Castle training hall unlocks after the Snow Temple and costs 20 rupees per round. The first time you reach 60 hits you also get a Heart Container. In later rounds, 60 to 119 hits gives a 150-tier treasure, 120 to 199 hits a 500-tier one and 200 or more a Regal Ring or Alchemy Stone.

The mini-games page lists the other score tables: the Whip Race, the Goron Target Range, Take ‘Em All On!, the Skating Rink and the Ends of the Earth Station each pay treasure by score or time.

Prize Postcards are a further source. Ten cost 100 rupees at most shops, you can mail up to 20 a day at a mailbox, and the postman reports the result after midnight, with treasure among the prizes.

What to spend treasure on

Do not sell anything until you have checked the car list. Each of the 28 purchasable train cars costs a fixed bundle of treasures, and buying every car in all seven bought sets takes 25 Demon Fossils, 19 Stalfos Skulls, 9 Star Fragments, 18 Bee Larvae, 19 Wood Hearts, 12 Dark Pearl Loops, 21 Pearl Necklaces, 13 Ruto Crowns, 14 Dragon Scales, 14 Pirate Necklaces, 7 Palace Dishes, 7 Goron Ambers, 9 Mystic Jades, 10 Ancient Gold Pieces, 2 Alchemy Stones and 2 Regal Rings. Anything beyond that is safe to sell: each piece fetches its tier value at the counter, which adds up quickly with 500 and 2,500-rupee pieces.

Rupees from treasure also pay for the other shop items on the items and equipment page, such as the Heart Container in the Snow Sanctuary store, the 30-arrow quiver and Beedle’s cards.
