Kiuyoyou Shrine (Fire and Ice)

Kiuyoyou Shrine is a fire-and-ice puzzle: flames melt ice, so you shrink one block to fit a switch, then protect another with a stone slab and carry it to the big switch under the flame pillar. A Zonaite Spear chest is up on a high ledge.

How to find Kiuyoyou Shrine

Head for Rowan Plain in the Great Hyrule Forest area, on the way back from Rito Village. The shrine is built into a rounded boulder on a low hill among pine trees, with two carved stone fins either side of the doorway and a blue platform on the path in front. Step onto the platform and walk in.

Kiuyoyou Shrine solution

Shrink the ice and fill the recess

In the first room a pillar of flame burns over the big floor switch and a large ice block sits to one side. The block is too big to fit the small recess with the button by the barred gate, so grab it with Ultrahand and hold it in the heat beside the flames until it is roughly half size. Pull it away before it melts completely, then set it on the button in the recess to lift the bars.

Glide the spike pit

The next room ends at a deep pit full of spikes with air jets blasting out of the walls. Jump off the edge, open your glider and let the wind carry you across.

Block the flame jets

Beyond the pit, flame jets burn along the walls and ice cubes drop from a ceiling chute straight into the fire. Pick up one of the loose stone slabs and stand it in front of the jets so the flames cannot reach the ice.

Cap a block with the slab

Take a full ice block, then use Ultrahand to attach a stone slab on top of it. The slab shields the ice from fire and adds weight. If a block melts, wait for another to fall from the chute.

Climb to the chest

Use the ice block as a step: set it against the high ledge on the right, climb on, then lift it onto the upper ledge and climb again. Alternatively, tip the block onto the ledge and Ascend up through it from beneath. The chest is in the small room at the top.

Weigh down the final switch

Carry the slab-capped block back to the first room and lower it onto the pedestal under the flame pillar. The slab takes the fire while the weight of the ice presses the switch and opens the way to the altar. If your block has melted, bring a fresh one with a slab on top.

Kiuyoyou Shrine chest

The chest sits in the small room above the high ledge in the flame room. Open it for a Zonaite Spear. If your melee weapon slots are full, the game asks you to drop one before you can take it.

Light of Blessing

Go through the opened door, climb to the altar and step up to the green seal to collect the Light of Blessing. This also unlocks the shrine for fast travel.

Tips

Never carry bare ice near flames; attach the slab before you move it.
Free a weapon slot before opening the chest so the Zonaite Spear is not left behind.
You can use the same slab to block flames, then pick it up again as the ice cap.
