Gutanbac Shrine (The Ability to Rise)

Gutanbac Shrine teaches Ascend: stand under a ceiling or slab and swim up through it. Use it to climb every level, defeat one Soldier Construct, and look out for two optional chests: a Stone Axe on a pillar and a Construct Bow in a hidden room behind boards.

How to find Gutanbac Shrine

The shrine is the third stop of The Closed Door. It stands in the snowy east of Great Sky Island and the cold drains your hearts, so cook a Cold Resistance dish (anything with Spicy Peppers or Spicy Fruit) before you cross the snow. Head for the green light rising above a rocky outcrop wrapped in tree roots.

Climb the roots up the rock face, resting on the thick roots when your stamina runs low. At the top, touch the shrine stone and step onto the blue platform to enter.

Rise through the first ceiling

Rauru gives you Ascend in the entrance hall. Stand beneath the low ceiling in the first room, press the Ascend prompt shown by the green grid and swim up to the floor above.

In the next hall a large block juts out above the floor. Stand under it, use Ascend and come out on top. The chest here is the Stone Axe (see chests below).

Defeat the Soldier Construct

A Construct with a flame weapon waits in the room upstairs. Use the weapons lying around, or a fused weapon, to take it down. It drops a Zonai Charge and weapons.

Cut the bridge ropes and keep ascending

A slab bridge hangs from two ropes. Cut them so it lowers, stand beneath it and Ascend through it. A moving platform carries you under the top floor; Ascend again as it passes beneath to arrive on the wide floor in front of the altar.

Gutanbac Shrine chests

Stone Axe: beside the big block (step 2), a smaller pillar carries a chest on its top. Ascend up through the pillar, or drop onto it from the ledge above, and open the chest for the Stone Axe. If your melee weapon slots are full you must drop one first.

Construct Bow: after the Soldier Construct fight, look for wooden boxes or boards at floor level on the back wall. Smash them to open a low alcove, stand inside and Ascend into the hidden room above where a chest holds the Construct Bow. If your bow slots are full, drop a bow to take it.

Light of Blessing

Touch the green seal on the altar to collect your Light of Blessing. Gutanbac is a Sky shrine, so there is no Lightroot below it.

The other Great Sky Island shrines are Ukouh Shrine (Ultrahand), In-isa Shrine (Fuse) and Nachoyah Shrine (Recall).

Tips

Ascend only works when a surface is directly above you; wait for the green grid on the ceiling before pressing the button.
You can cancel an Ascend and drop back down if you chose the wrong ceiling.
The boarded alcove is easy to miss, and the Construct Bow chest is the one most players skip.
Your cold resistance keeps ticking inside the shrine, so bring a second dish.
