Ukouh Shrine (The Ability to Create)

Ukouh Shrine is the first shrine of the game and teaches Ultrahand: lay slabs over the gaps, fuse two together for the wide one, and hang a hooked board on the rail to ride to the altar. Grab the Amber chest on the corner shelf before you leave the second room.

How to find Ukouh Shrine

The shrine is part of the main quest The Closed Door and sits west of the Temple of Time. Head down from the temple into the golden grassland, hop across the pond on the flat rocks and climb the dark rock wall beyond it (watch for the Rushrooms growing there). Follow the ruined stairs to the flat top, touch the shrine stone to unlock it as a fast-travel point and step onto the blue platform in front of the doorway.

Ukouh Shrine solution

Receive Ultrahand

Rauru’s spirit in the entrance hall gives you the ability automatically. Select it from the ability wheel (hold the left shoulder button); anything you can grab glows green while it is active.

Make a ramp to the first ledge

Grab the flat slab on the floor, carry it to the raised ledge and lean it against the edge so you can run up it.

Lay the tall slab flat

The next gap needs a bridge. Grab the upright tall slab, hold the rotate button and tip it flat. It is too short on its own, so do not cross yet.

Fuse two slabs into one

Hold the second slab so one edge touches the end of the first, then press the Attach button when the green join point appears. Lay the combined slab across the gap and walk over.

Ramp up to the upper level

Prop another slab (or the joined bridge) between the floor and the higher ledge and run up it. Stop at the corner shelf here for the chest below.

Build the hook car

In the last room, pull the metal hooks free (one leans by the wall, one hangs from a chain ring) and attach them upright to the edge of the wooden board so they point up. Lift the board until the hooks catch over the long rail.

Ride the rail

Jump onto the hanging board; it slides along the rail and carries you across to the stairs. Climb them to the altar.

Ukouh Shrine chest

Amber: after the ramp to the upper level, a chest sits on a small stone shelf in the corner. Climb onto the shelf and open it for an Amber. It is off the main path, so it is easy to miss.

Light of Blessing

Touch the green seal on the altar to collect your first Light of Blessing. Ukouh is a Sky shrine, so there is no Lightroot below it. This also completes the Ukouh step of The Closed Door.

Nearby

The other shrines on the island are In-isa Shrine (Fuse), Gutanbac Shrine (Ascend) and Nachoyah Shrine (Recall). In-isa is the next stop.

Tips

Tipping the tall slab flat is the only fiddly move: hold the rotate button and use the stick until it lies level.
If a joined bridge sits at a bad angle, pick it up and adjust it rather than rebuilding it.
On the rail, jump on quickly; the rail slopes slightly so the board slides to the far end by itself.
