Kyononis Shrine (Combat Training)

Kyononis Shrine is a combat tutorial: a Construct trains you in four moves (side hop, backflip, parry and charged attack), and the passage beyond holds a Zonaite Sword chest. Wait until the Construct commits to its swing before each dodge.

How to find Kyononis Shrine

Leave Lookout Landing by the north gate and follow the road through Hyrule Castle Town Ruins toward Hyrule Castle. Pass the red search party tents marked with the Hylian crest; the shrine is built into a boulder on the cobbled square just beyond. Step onto the blue platform at its doorway to go inside.

Enter the arena

Go down the entry stairs and walk into the big square arena. A tall Construct instructor drops in and attacks, and each lesson is introduced by glowing text on the wall.

Side hop

Lock on, push the stick to the side and jump just as its swing is about to hit. A well-timed hop slows time; press attack to follow with a Flurry Rush.

Backflip

Stay locked on, push the stick back and jump as the Construct thrusts at you. This also triggers a Flurry Rush, so strike straight away.

Parry

Raise your shield and press attack the instant its weapon reaches you. The blow is knocked back and leaves the Construct open for a counter-attack.

Charged attack

Hold the attack button until your weapon glows, then release to spin into the Construct. It breaks apart and leaves a Construct Bow, which you can pick up.

Take the supplies and go on

The gate at the far end of the arena opens. Stone racks along the passage hold a Rusty Broadsword, a shield and Zonai Charges; take what you want, then continue to the altar.

Kyononis Shrine chest

Zonaite Sword: the chest stands at the foot of the altar stairs and cannot be missed. It contains a Zonai-metal sword that resonates with attached Zonai devices to raise its attack slightly. Make room in your weapon pouch first or you will have to swap something out.

Light of Blessing

Climb the stairs and examine the green seal on the altar to receive the Light of Blessing.

Tips

Timing matters more than damage: let the Construct start its swing, then hop, flip or parry at the last moment.
Bring a weapon you do not mind wearing down; the Flurry Rushes chew through durability.
You can repeat any lesson as often as you like. The next one starts only after you succeed.
