Tiger Scrolls and Sword Techniques

Total8 Tiger Scrolls (sword techniques) plus 3 technique upgrades from Kinstone fusions
WhereFive dojos for the scrolls (Hyrule Town, Mt. Crenel, Lake Hylia, Hyrule Castle Garden, Castor Wilds) and three waterfall dojos for the upgrades
RequirementEach technique needs a particular sword or item; the last one needs the other seven scrolls
RewardThe techniques themselves; you can reread every scroll from the pause menu

The Minish Cap has eight Tiger Scrolls. Four come from Swiftblade in Hyrule Town (Spin Attack, Rock Breaker, Dash Attack and Down Thrust), and the others come from Grayblade on Mt. Crenel (Roll Attack), Waveblade at Lake Hylia (Peril Beam), Grimblade in Hyrule Castle Garden (Sword Beam) and Swiftblade the First in Castor Wilds (Great Spin Attack). Three more masters, Scarblade, Splitblade and Greatblade, give no scroll: they improve techniques you already know after you fuse Kinstones with Grayblade, Grimblade and Waveblade.

Swiftblade’s dojo, Hyrule Town

Spin Attack

Swiftblade’s dojo is the log cabin on the south-west side of Hyrule Town, just west of the town entrance. You can learn this technique as soon as you own the Smith’s Sword. Hold the sword button until your power builds and you glow, then release it for a spinning slash that hits all around you. It is also what the soldier at the north-west gate wants to see before he lets you onto the road to Trilby Highlands. See Ascent to Mount Crenel.

Rock Breaker

Return after you have the White Sword. Swiftblade shows you how to smash rocks and pots with a sword swing, and you practise on the pots at the side of the room. See Getting the Pegasus Boots.

Dash Attack

Once you own the Pegasus Boots, talk to Swiftblade again. Put the sword and the boots on two buttons and run at the target: the sword comes out as you charge, and the dash hits harder than an ordinary swing. It is taught in the same chapter as the Rock Breaker.

Down Thrust

After you find Roc’s Cape, Swiftblade offers a fourth lesson. Equip the cape and the sword, jump, and press the sword button at the top of the jump to stab straight down. See Completing the Four Sword.

The other masters

Link at the mine-shaft doorway on the Mt. Crenel rock face

Roll Attack: Grayblade, Mt. Crenel

Climb the rock walls on the east side of Mt. Crenel with the Grip Ring and go through the mine-shaft door to Grayblade’s dojo. In the puzzle room beyond, split into several Links with the White Sword and stand on the coloured switches to lower the blocks. Grayblade then drills you to roll on his word. Roll, then swing the sword as you get up to hit nearby enemies. The dojo hall also holds a Piece of Heart. See Mt. Crenel summit and Grayblade’s dojo.

Peril Beam: Waveblade, Lake Hylia

Swim to the tree on the south-west shore of Lake Hylia and enter its open door; this is Waveblade’s dojo. His test is a switch-and-swing drill, after which your sword fires a beam whenever you are down to one heart. See Western Wood, Lake Hylia and Waveblade’s dojo.

Link beside the ladder hole in the south-east corner of Hyrule Castle Garden

Sword Beam: Grimblade, Hyrule Castle Garden

In the south-east corner of the Hyrule Castle Garden, cut the bushes to uncover a ladder. Grimblade lives below. He teaches you to fire a beam from the blade when you swing with full hearts. See Hyrule Castle Garden: Sword Beam.

Link at the large tombstone in the Castor Wilds swamp

Great Spin Attack: Swiftblade the First, Castor Wilds

This is the last scroll. Warp to the Castor Wilds Wind Crest and walk into the swamp to the large tombstone in the south-west; it opens onto a dojo beneath it. Swiftblade the First teaches only a student who holds the other seven Tiger Scrolls. Charge a Spin Attack, release it, and press the sword button again as it ends to chain extra spins. See Completing the Four Sword.

Scarblade: faster Spin Attack

Fuse with Grayblade and a cave opens behind the north-east Castor Wilds waterfall. Swim in (you need the Flippers) and follow Scarblade’s drill; afterward the Spin Attack charges faster. See Castor Wilds and Scarblade’s dojo.

Splitblade: faster Split Gauge

Fuse with Grimblade, then climb the stairs by the lake in Veil Falls to the waterfall dojo. The Split Gauge now fills faster, so your clones appear sooner. See Veil Falls.

Greatblade: longer Great Spin Attack

Fuse with Waveblade, then enter the waterfall in North Hyrule Field. Greatblade’s meditation makes the Great Spin Attack last longer, so learn that technique first. See Longer Great Spin: Greatblade.
