After Rhoam explains the history, you can go to Hyrule Castle at any point. Fight through the castle to the Sanctum, defeat Calamity Ganon (each freed Divine Beast removes one eighth of his health), then ride a horse and shoot Dark Beast Ganon with the Bow of Light.

Reaching the castle

Choose an approach

South: the main road past Castle Town ruins is lined with Guardians; use rubble and ramparts for cover. West: through the prison ruins and a raft on the north moat. East: Hyrule Castle Park has little cover but fewer Guardians. North: glide from the pillar west of Woodland Tower to low platforms and the mine entrance.

Choose a route in

Storm the front gates: a Blue Lynel in the first gatehouse and a Black Lynel in the second. Or go inside through the west mines and Lockup, east passage or docks to the Library, and up to the Sanctum. Or climb and swim up waterfalls with Zora Armor with little combat.

Calamity Ganon

Phase one

Unfreed Divine Beasts release their Blights for you to fight first. Each freed beast fires at Ganon, removing one eighth of his health, half in total. He swings a flame axe, uses ancient weapons and a cannon, and climbs the walls. Perfect parries return his beams. Partway through the fight he adds an impervious shield, which Urbosa‘s Fury or a perfect parry breaks.

Dark Beast Ganon

The final fight

You only have your horse and the Bow of Light from Zelda. Ride along the sides, shoot the gold targets that appear, then the belly, then the eye on his head to end the fight.

Afterwards

  • There is no New Game+, but you get an autosave from just before the fight, and your quest log shows how many main, side and shrine quests you have completed out of the total.
