Force Gems

Total21 side-quest gems: 20 numbered delivery jobs plus 1 gift from Anjean (the four boss gems from the temples are separate)
Required for the story3: Carben (Force Gem 1), Noko (Force Gem 5) and Anjean’s gem
What you doCarry a passenger or a load of cargo from one station to another
RewardNew Spirit Tracks on a rail map: shortcuts, Spacetime Gate links, extra stations and the rabbits and mini-games that sit on them
NumberingThe game never numbers the gems. The numbers here follow one common order, so look for the giver’s name

Force Gem A Force Gem is the thank-you for a delivery. Hand over the right passenger or cargo at the right station and the giver gives you a gem; the matching rail map starts to glow and new tracks appear on it. There are 21 of these gems. Only three are needed to finish the story, so the other 18 are optional, but the tracks they open lead to Spacetime Gates, mini-games, the Pirate Hideout, Dark Ore Mine and a number of rabbit spots, so a 100% run needs all of them.

How Force Gems work

Each job starts with someone who needs something moved: a traveller who wants a ride (a passenger) or a person who needs goods fetched from a seller (cargo). Passengers ride in your passenger car and cargo goes in the freight car. The Trusty Freight Car is lent to you by Kagoron in Goron Village (see the Fire Realm chapter), and every cargo job needs it. Cargo is easily ruined: enemy hits and bumps make a load spoil or fall out, Mega Ice melts on a long trip and Dark Ore spoils, so drive straight to the destination.

Where the cargo comes from: Lumber at Whittleton (50 rupees for a load of 10), Cuccos at the Castle Town seller Georgio (50 rupees for five), Mega Ice at the Wellspring Station stall, Fish at Papuchia Village (50 rupees for 20), the Vessel from the Wise One in Papuchia (300 rupees), Goron Iron in Goron Village (100 rupees for 20) and Dark Ore at Dark Ore Mine (200 rupees for 10). Buy only what the job asks for.

Force Gems 1 to 5

Force Gem

Force Gem 1: Carben (required)

You earn this during the story in the Ocean Realm. After you free Carben from the birds with the Song of Birds, drive him from Papuchia Village to the Ocean Sanctuary while pirates attack the train, and beat the Big Blin. The gem opens Spacetime Gate B and the track to the fourth Forest Realm rabbit spot.

Force Gem

Force Gem 2: Orca and Dovok

Once the Ocean Temple is cleared, Orca in Papuchia Village is waiting for Dovok. Pick Dovok up at Whittleton and ride him to Papuchia. The gem opens tracks to the fifth and sixth Forest Realm rabbit spots.

Force Gem

Force Gem 3: Mona

After the Ocean Temple, take Mona from Castle Town to Rabbitland Rescue, where Bunnio runs the rabbit hunt. The gem opens the eighth and ninth Forest Realm rabbit spots. See Rabbit Locations.

Mona, Bunnio's wife, thanks Link for bringing her to Rabbitland Rescue
Force Gem

Force Gem 4: Joe

Also available after the Ocean Temple. Joe wants to fly: ride him from Aboda Village to Beedle’s Air Shop. The gem adds a shortcut between Castle Town and the Forest Temple.

Force Gem

Force Gem 5: Noko (required)

After you finish the Carben duet, Noko in Anouki Village asks for a ride to Wellspring Station. The gem is required and opens Spacetime Gate C plus a track east that links the Snow Realm back to the Forest Realm.

Force Gems 6 to 11

Force Gem

Force Gem 6: the Goron by the platform

After the Fire Temple, a Goron near the Goron Village platform wants to visit the Anouki. Take him from Goron Village to Anouki Village (see the Fire Realm). Spacetime Gate D and the eighth and ninth Snow Realm rabbit spots open.

Force Gem

Force Gem 7: Kofu

Once you have Force Gem 6, Kofu in Anouki Village wants to go the other way. Carry him to Goron Village. The gem opens a northern track into the Fire Realm.

Force Gem

Force Gem 8: the Goron in the east house

Mega Ice After the lava geysers are cooled with Mega Ice, a Goron in the east house of Goron Village asks for 10 Mega Ice. Buy it at Wellspring Station, drive straight to Goron Village and hand it over before it melts. The gem opens Spacetime Gate F, the first Sand Realm rabbit spot and a western link toward the Ocean Realm through the Sand Realm.

Force Gem

Force Gem 9: Mash

Goron Iron After the geysers are cooled, buy 5 Goron Iron in Goron Village and deliver it to Mash, the lumber seller in Whittleton. The gem adds a shortcut from the Forest Temple to Spacetime Gate A in the Snow Realm.

Force Gem

Force Gem 10: Yeko and Kenzo

Lumber Yeko in Anouki Village wants 15 pieces of lumber, and the Bridge Worker Kenzo along for the ride. Load the lumber at Whittleton, take Kenzo aboard on the way and deliver both to Anouki Village. The gem opens Snowdrift Station and the tenth Snow Realm rabbit spot.

Force Gem

Force Gem 11: Ferrus

After the geysers are cooled, collect Ferrus near the Snow Temple and ride him to Aboda Village. The gem adds a shortcut from Castle Town to the Bridge Worker’s Home.

Force Gems 12 to 20

Force Gem

Force Gem 12: Lucia

Buy 10 Fish at Papuchia Village and take them to Lucia in Castle Town. The gem restores tracks in the Forest and Ocean Realms, including the tenth Forest and eighth Ocean rabbit spots.

Force Gem

Force Gem 13: Harry

Harry at Aboda Village needs 10 Cuccos. You can carry 5 at a time, so buy 5 in Castle Town, deliver them, and make a second run. The gem opens Spacetime Gate E.

Force Gem

Force Gem 14: Steem and the Vessel

Buy the Vessel from the Wise One in Papuchia Village and carry it to Steem at the Snow Sanctuary. It is fragile: a hit breaks it and you must buy another. The gem opens Slippery Station and its Skating Rink; see Mini-Games.

Force Gem

Force Gem 15: Goron Child

After the Fire Temple, take the Goron Child from Goron Village to Castle Town. The gem opens Disorientation Station and the ninth Mountain rabbit spot.

Force Gem

Force Gem 16: Niboshi

After the Fire Temple, take 10 Mega Ice from Wellspring Station to Niboshi in Papuchia Village. The gem opens the track north of Papuchia to the Pirate Hideout.

Force Gem

Force Gem 17: Wadatsumi

Enter the Pirate Hideout, finish the rescue run and ride the freed Papuchian, Wadatsumi, back to Papuchia Village. The gem opens Spacetime Gate G, the ninth Ocean rabbit spot and several shortcuts.

Force Gem

Force Gem 18: Ferrus again

After the Sand Temple and a climb up the Tower of Spirits, Ferrus waits in the Fire Realm by the Fire Temple. Take him to the Ocean Temple. The gem opens Dark Ore Mine and a track east to the Sand Realm.

Force Gem

Force Gem 19: Linebeck III

Dark Ore Buy 10 Dark Ore at Dark Ore Mine and bring it to Linebeck at the Trading Post before it spoils; he needs at least 5 to arrive intact. The gem opens Lost at Sea Station and the tenth Ocean rabbit spot.

Force Gem

Force Gem 20: Rael

With the Sand Wand in hand, buy 5 Cuccos in Castle Town and take them to Rael at the Sand Sanctuary (Sand Realm). The gem opens Ends of the Earth Station and the tenth Mountain rabbit spot.

Force Gem

Anjean’s Force Gem (required)

After the Fire Temple and the fight with Byrne at the top of the Tower of Spirits, Anjean gives this gem in a cutscene. It lights up the Ocean rail map and opens the new tracks that lead into the desert, along with the Sand Sanctuary and the second to fifth Sand Realm rabbit spots.

Boss gems

The Forest, Snow, Ocean and Fire temple bosses each leave a large gem (green, white, blue, red). These re-seal the tracks to the Tower of Spirits and are story rewards, not part of the 21 above.

Best order

Do the required three as the story reaches them, then clear the Ocean Temple for gems 2, 3 and 4. After the Fire Temple do 6 and 7, cool the geysers with Mega Ice for 8, 9 and 11, and grab 15 and 16. Once you own the freight car, finish 10, 12, 13 and 14, then the Pirate Hideout for 17. End with 18, 19 and 20 after the Sand Temple. For the rewards behind these tracks see Heart Containers, Stamp Station Locations and Maps.
