Gold Kinstone pieces are separate from the green, blue and red ones, and each of the nine fusions is needed to move the story along. Three open the Wind Ruins in Castor Wilds, one opens the Source of the Flow at Veil Falls, and five wake the Mysterious Clouds that open the Tower of Winds. The table lists them in the order you meet them.

The five cloud fusions have the numbers #086-#090 in the game’s order; the Thonky list only describes the last one, and written guides place the pieces and clouds slightly differently, so treat the cloud order below as a route and not a rule. A cloud only takes a piece that matches its shape, so if one rejects yours, try another.

Castor Wilds: three Mysterious Statues

Find the three pieces

After the Pegasus Boots, cross the swamp of Castor Wilds. The Bow is needed against the Eyegore statues, which wake up and attack. A Darknut guards one cave near the center of the marsh, another gold piece sits in a chest in a cave in the north, and the third is in a cave in the southeast.

Fuse with the statues (#041-#043)

In the southwest corner stand three Mysterious Statues. Fuse one gold piece with each. A statue rises and slams down on the boulder to the south, cracking it. When all three have been done, the boulder shatters and the Wind Ruins are open. Do this before the Fortress of Winds. The Castor Wilds chapter gives the whole route.

King Gustaf: the Source of the Flow

Get the piece from the Royal Crypt (#083)

Work through the Royal Crypt, which opens after the Temple of Droplets. At the end King Gustaf’s spirit gives you the gold Kinstone piece that matches the doorway at Veil Falls.

Fuse at Veil Falls

Climb the bridge at Veil Falls to the doorway called the Source of the Flow and fuse the gold piece with it. The door opens and lets you through the caves and the Veil Springs toward the Cloud Tops.

Cloud Tops: five Mysterious Clouds

Collect the five gold pieces

On the first island, enter the red whirlwind to the northeast and go east to a treasure chest. The gold piece in it does not match the cloud you started beside, so drop through the rightmost hole. Other pieces are in a chest in a closed-off area after the whirlwinds south of you and in a chest past an enemy that hides when you approach. Two more are hidden under cloud bulges: defeat the cloud sharks that jump out and a red whirlwind and a gold piece appear.

Fuse with each cloud (#086-#090)

The first cloud is just west of the first chest: dig through the cloud-stone with the Mole Mitts and fall through the first hole. Each Mysterious Cloud only accepts a matching piece. Every fusion spins a pinwheel at the center of the Cloud Tops. The last cloud is back on your starting island, the one you passed up at the start. When all five are spinning, a giant whirlwind appears that carries you to the Tower of Winds and on to the Palace of Winds.
