The Sorceress of the Woods drops Link, Impa and Sheik into a hidden village in Faron Woods that is under attack. You defend the village alongside the sorceress Lana’s soldiers, hold the Great Deku Tree against Gibdos and fire, and then defeat the giant Gohma before it can wreck the tree. Clearing it makes Lana a warrior, opens the Smithy in the Bazaar and starts Linkle’s Tale.

Before you start

You switch between Link, Impa and Sheik, so spread your time between them. The Heart Container is Sheik’s, the Piece of Heart is Impa’s, and you need bombs for the Heart Container boulder. The Hard-only Gold Skulltula needs Link with a Magic Rod (the Fire Rod from the previous scenario is the first rod) and the Hookshot from The Shadow King, so it is a replay.

Defend the hidden village

Bow

Find the bow and arrows

Fight the monsters around the village as Wizzro’s Deku Babas appear. Deku Babas are poisonous at close range, so you need a ranged attack. Open the chest in the settlement to get the bow and arrows, then shoot the stalk of each Deku Baba from a distance, as Sheik advises.

Retreat to the Great Deku Tree

Lana

Help Lana reach the Deku Tree

When the soldiers tire, Lana asks everyone to retreat to the Deku Tree. Stay with her and defeat the Gibdos that Wizzro sends toward the tree, particularly around the Southern Tree. Capture the Southern Tree keep and open the chest that Lana sets up in the Deku Tree area, which gives you the Ocarina and lets you use owl statues.

Put out the Deku Tree fire

Wizzro sets the Deku Tree on fire. Proxi senses a Great Fairy to the northeast, so fight your way to the Fairy Fountain while defending the tree. When the fountain opens, use the Magic Circle to call the Great Fairy, who brings rain over the tree and puts out the flames. Then continue clearing the Gibdos.

North Square side mission

A side mission asks you to capture the North Square. Capture it, then switch to Impa and open the chest in that area, since her chest holds the Piece of Heart.

Gohma boss fight

Wizzro vanishes and calls out Gohma, together with Keep Saboteurs, enemies that capture keeps quickly. The victory conditions change, so keep your eye on Gohma and kill it before it wrecks the Deku Tree. Gohma blocks nearly everything with its front legs, and its eye is the weak point. It swipes, spins, charges, jumps to crash down and fires an eye beam.

After a beam or while it charges a big blast, its iris turns bright blue. That is your opening: shoot the eye with the bow. Gohma flips onto its back and the Weak Point Gauge appears, so attack it and finish with the Weak Point Smash. Repeat until it dies, then defeat the Keep Saboteurs, which is the last objective.

Gold Skulltula 1: under a boulder in the west

On any difficulty, defeat 1,000 enemies and then go to the western side of the map. At the end of a branch there, a boulder hides the Gold Skulltula. Once the 1,000th enemy falls, a message announces that a Gold Skulltula has appeared on the battlefield and a marker shows on the map. Blow the boulder up with bombs and catch the spider before it flees.

Gold Skulltula 2: ledge near the Fairy Fountain

This one is for Hard or Hero difficulty. Play as Link with a Magic Rod, reduce Gohma to half health before it moves toward the Deku Tree, and keep Impa and Sheik alive. The Gold Skulltula sits on a ledge on the northeast path, behind the tree just west of the Fairy Fountain, and you need the Hookshot to climb up. Come back after The Shadow King for the Hookshot. In Definitive Edition you must also defeat the Keep Saboteurs.

Play as Sheik and bring bombs. Follow the path south of the Southeast Tree to its end, blow up the boulder and open the chest underneath.

Play as Impa and capture the North Square. Once it is yours, a chest appears with the Piece of Heart.

Rewards and what unlocks next

Clearing the scenario makes Lana a playable warrior with her Book of Sorcery and opens the Smithy, where you can combine weapons and move skills between them. Linkle’s Tale opens on the scenario map with its first stage, The Girl in the Green Tunic. The bow and the Ocarina stay in your item list, and the results screen hands out new weapons such as the Scepter of Time and the Polished Rapier, though the drops vary. When you return to the scenario map, a message tells you the Smithy is open for business.
