What a fairy doesTouch it to restore your full Life meter
When they returnA palace fairy comes back if you leave the palace and walk in again. Treat overworld fairies as single use.

Fairies in Zelda II restore your whole Life meter the moment you touch them. Five of them sit on the overworld, on single forest tiles and lone trees. Three more are inside palaces: one in Parapa Palace and two in the Great Palace. Each fairy works once per visit, so keep the nearby locations in mind when your Life runs low.

Overworld fairies

Forest tile east of the cave south of Ruto Town

From Ruto Town, enter the cave to the south. The far end of the cave ends at a high cliff, so you need the Jump spell to climb out. Once you are through, step onto the lone forest tile directly to the right of the exit. A fairy appears and restores your whole Life meter. The cave route is covered in Ruto, the Trophy and the Jump Spell.

Lone tree in the desert east of the Saria forest

From the cave near Saria, walk east through the forest and into the open desert beyond it. A single tree stands in the sand. Stand beside it and a fairy restores your Life. The area is covered in Saria and the Life Spell.

Lone tree on the edge of Moruge Swamp

Make your way through Moruge Swamp toward Midoro Palace. As soon as you come out of the swamp cave, walk east to the lone tree that borders the swamp. A hidden fairy appears there and fully heals you. Mido and the swamp route are covered in Mido Town, the Water of Life and the Fairy Spell.

Forest square at the river source southwest of Nabooru

Travel southwest from Nabooru Town until you reach the point where the river begins on the world map. A single forest square sits right there. Step onto it and a fairy fully heals you. Nabooru is covered in Nabooru and the Fire Spell.

Woods west of King’s Tomb

King’s Tomb lies in the graveyard south of Mido Town. On the far side of the mountains west of the tomb, a patch of woods stands on a small beach. Step into it and a fairy restores your Life. A Link Doll also lies on the shore a little to the south-west, so collect both on one visit.

Fairies inside palaces

Parapa Palace: room past the second elevator

Ride the second elevator in Parapa Palace and continue into the room beyond it. The fairy restores your life there. It returns if you leave the palace and walk back in. The full route is in Palace 1: Parapa Palace.

Great Palace: one floor below a right-hand elevator

In the Great Palace, ride the elevator and drop one floor below it. Go to the right, past the blocks, to find a fairy that heals you. Watch for the lava nearby as you move through the room.

Great Palace: end of the bridge room

An optional second fairy waits at the far end of the bridge room, past the large bubbles that float over the gap. Cross carefully and you can reach it. Both Great Palace fairies are covered in Final Palace: The Great Palace and the Ending.

Using fairies well

Keep your fairies for the places where Life runs low, such as the lava pits and bridges of the Great Palace. Towns have their own healing: the woman in a red dress with no hat restores your life when you talk to her, and the old woman in orange restores your magic.
